What are you all up to

Yesterday we went to the York Designer Outlet for a bit of retail therapy for OH, however  I was one who came away with something,  a new wet weather dog walking coat and a free brolly.

It has been a misty couple of days but drier today. This morning we had a walk in the the woods that comprise Allerthorpe Common. After lunch we had a shorter walk along the Polkington Canal from Church Bridge, which was built in 18

WN, good to hear that you have been able get out and about with your brother. Hope the weather clears up for the rest of your stay.

TG, nice to hear how your are getting along, fingers crossed that you have got away from the heavy rain.

Glad to read that the repairs to the roofs are holding up under more rain.

Been a busy weekend at home for us this week. Yesterday we decided to have a clear out in the loft lots of rubbish up there mainly not ours but the kids who have their own houses now so we binned a lot of stuff and they have notice to come and collect what they want otherwise it’s getting binned. Today I took the roof/bike rack off the Volvo and put it in the garage for the winter we won’t be taking the bikes on any trip with the caravan over the winter. Then cleaned the Volvo while the weather was ok. Hoping to get away in the van later on this week may be our last trip away this year as we have lots on between now and Christmas. Got dark here today before 5.

Kjell, you will be relieved to have sold the Smart car at an agreeable price I guess. Hope your new car last you as long as the old one.

Rufs, we are staying in a CL at Barmby Moor, not that far from York, but not see anything like that in the photo. 

Hope the "man who can" isn't too long in coming to you, B2, and you get a!l your other jobs sorted too.

We had continuous heavy rain for 6+ hrs over night, and although today has been fine and dry it has started to rain again😖. Just hope that this time it passes over much more quickly. Fingers crossed that the ground isn't too wet in the morning as we are due to move into our next site then. Had a short drive up onto the Wolds today, stopping off at Bishop Wilton for a walk through the lovely village and then at Great Givendale, visiting the church before calling in at Pocklington for food supplies.

After a day of some spectacular rain showers, fower beds underwater and lawn looks like a lake, we had this pop out from behind the clouds early in the evening. More rain forecast for this week. could be a good time to sort out our official filing cabinet.

Not a bad day here, chilly but dry, and even a couple of hours of sun.

Did not make much progress with our filing of paperwork, but have raided the savings accounts to be ready to pay for  the new car tomorrow.  

  Also spent several hours helping OH to prepare the application for funding and loan from the Scottish Government to assist with insulating the walls and floor in our local Guide Hall.     Being a 61 year old wooden building with no insulation in the walls, or floor, it does get rather chilly in there in the depths of winter, as the heating, though good, cannot heat it up as fast as the heat is lost!

There is a lot of paperwork required to accompany the application, so not a quick job to assemble it all.

Thankfully we had no problems getting off the all grass site we were on at Barmby Moor, Burton Holme Fm, as the land was solid even after all the rain we had. At Kexby Bridge we could see that the River Derwent was in flood, but it not reached the main road. Arrived at our chosen site, Rudding House Fm, at Pannal, in pouring rain, to find that although we had been told that the H/S pitches were usable they were covered in mud and there was no way to access the van without dragging the mud into it, so totally unsuitable for us. So a quick phone call and we were fortunate to find that Lower Banks Fm at Huby, only a few miles down the road and which we knew well, were able to offer us their last pitch. So a quick turnaround and we were soon there, the rain had nearly stopped and we pitched up for the next 4 days. The gods were certainly on our side today!

Thanks, Heddlo, and Helen too. I think we were very fortunate in getting onto this site as we have had rain nearly all day today and I dread to think what the other site is like now. Perhaps we will be able meet up the next time we are over your way, Heddlo. Fingers crossed that your sister's op went without a hitch. 

Hope that there were no problems with your OH's hospital visit yesterday, Millie, and that all went as as planned. 

It has been another miserable day today. We went to Harewood House, anticipating a house tour but it was closed as they are preparing for Christmas. We did have a couple of walks, around the lakes and the Himalayan garden. There were some spectacular trees in full autumn colours, although i have no idea of whst the shrub is, and saw both Roe and Red Deer in the grounds. Being Halloween I think this character that we saw is appropriate

Yesterday we exchanged our car for a newer one - same make, same colour, same reg - but a higher spec. We had a comprensive handover showing us most of the bells and whistles, but by we got home I had forgotten most of it. We know the wipers work as it was raining as it seems to do every day. I know that Land Rover Discovery get a bad press, but this is our 4th, and when I suggested looking at other makes I couldn't think of a comparable one and my husband was adamant in what he wanted - and as he's the driver I'm very happy to go with it. I just wish it was a different colour!

There's no phsical manual now, so I'm looking at the online version to find where to plug in my USB pen full of music. I don't always want to listen to the hundreds of radion stations it brought up.

And today is changeover day for the cows - no more going out to grass between milkings. Fields are too wet and the grass growth has slowed right down. There's plenty of room for them indoors - individual cubicles with "mattressess", feeding alley ways and room to wander. And a short walk twice a day to the parlour.

All the best for those undergoing the health problems.  So pleased to read the good news reports.

Hope folks with health issues goes well and good news for those with recent results.

Very wet here had about 80mm in the last week although yesterday was partly dry in the afternoon and some sunshine but back to rain today and more forecast for the next few days.

Nth the shrub is a Calicarpa Japonica Luxians as it was on my Calendar when I turned the page over, and great Autumnal photos  not much colour here yet.

National holiday here today Toussaint so folks are going to the local cemetery with their pots of flowers or artifical flowers not too keen on them as very bright colours.

Just had a go at making some carrot and coriander soup and it tastes good and a easy recipe to do.

Gosh Goldie memories of mucking out in the winter at a local farm I used to help out as a teenager.
