Whilst we were staying at Los Madriles we were told about the guns by a woman who was washing up next to us at the sinks, she was alone as her husband had gone on a cycle ride to see them!

Whilst the road up to the guns is pretty narrow, dont forget Tammy Girl has a PVC so not much wider than many SUV's.

Yesterday we went to the York Designer Outlet for a bit of retail therapy for OH, however  I was one who came away with something,  a new wet weather dog walking coat and a free brolly.

It has been a misty couple of days but drier today. This morning we had a walk in the the woods that comprise Allerthorpe Common. After lunch we had a shorter walk along the Polkington Canal from Church Bridge, which was built in 18

WN, good to hear that you have been able get out and about with your brother. Hope the weather clears up for the rest of your stay.

TG, nice to hear how your are getting along, fingers crossed that you have got away from the heavy rain.

Glad to read that the repairs to the roofs are holding up under more rain.

TDA Well done to you!! It must have been such a lot of hard work but it sounds as though it was productive and also enjoyable. Yes most families (including ours) have been touched by cancer so it is heartwarming to hear of all the hard work that people like you are putting in. The cakes look delicious. Thank you for your good wishes for OH. It is much appreciated.

Just having a quick catch up.

Good to read folks news home and travelling. Purchases and jobs. And I hope those finding issues with rain get solutions very soon.

Takethedogalong that sounds like a very successful fund raising effort. Thanks for sharing the cakes with us, they're delious and a real feast for the eye.

Glad to hear Mr milliehull has dates for ops. If I happen to stir very early Monday morning I'll think of you getting up as I nestle back down 😉. Wishing you both well, I'm sure things will be better once pacemaker fitted. My OH has one with his own personal defib (ICD). He had his 1st check up here at Papworth in the summer. Lovely people I'm certain Mr milliehull  will be in good hands. The tech has moved on in the 4.5 years since his was fitted!

Heavy rain overnight, more water coming in from the old boiler chimney, I'm wondering if it has been slightly happening unnoticed? No worries we have a chap on the case. No date yet but at least we know and can monitor. Another couple of heavy showers after a beautiful start to today. Bedding dried 😀

Garden help Friday and Saturday. Turf laying to make the borders in the back garden narrower. Discovered edging stones were covering pond lining and carpet 😱. Luckily deep enough not to interfer with new turf laying, we have quite an 'undulating' grass area. Welcomed last night and today's rain.  But enough now as tomorrow we are, with help, extending the front grass with turf. 🤞.

The forecast for the coming week seems to confirm autumn is upon us.

Edit I think today, the day the clocks go back, is my absolute favourite day in the year regardless of the weather. An extra hour in bed but still up at the usual time, what's not to like? Or I remember dark at 5pm and earlier in the coming weeks....

Well done Ttda on the cancer fund raising,  the cakes certainly looked yummy 😋

Hope all goes well Millie with everything tomorrow for Mr M, sending him our best wishes.

After a visit from youngest son and his girlfriend last week, this weekend has been a bit quiet. Had a couple of good walks  with Polly, her recall is improving, trouble is she doesn't know when to stop, I've got a nice bruise on my leg to prove it! 🤣

Safe travels to all out and about.

Yup and i think they have electric bikes that should be ok, you can free wheel all the way back to site, well almost, laughing but well worth a visit, the guns were never fired in anger and there is a similar displacement at the other side of Cartagena, but never visited them here a couple of photies i took way back in 2019 , happy days

Been a busy weekend at home for us this week. Yesterday we decided to have a clear out in the loft lots of rubbish up there mainly not ours but the kids who have their own houses now so we binned a lot of stuff and they have notice to come and collect what they want otherwise it’s getting binned. Today I took the roof/bike rack off the Volvo and put it in the garage for the winter we won’t be taking the bikes on any trip with the caravan over the winter. Then cleaned the Volvo while the weather was ok. Hoping to get away in the van later on this week may be our last trip away this year as we have lots on between now and Christmas. Got dark here today before 5.

Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Smart car is sold, to We Buy Any Car, price was reasonable.

The lady who came to look at it  yesterday afternoon liked it, but had a 20 year old  Mercedes that she was worried about passing its MOT, so wanted to think about it, which we really did not have much time for her to do.   In the end she decided to see what happened with her  Mercedes, so we borrowed  DD's car and took the Smart back to WBAC.   It will likely end up in an auction as it is 10 years old.

Tomorrow will be a "paperwork day" as we have several piles waiting to be sorted and filed, unearthed while looking out all the service records for the Smart.   Then first thing on Tuesday we head down to Ayr to pick up the new car.

Tda, well done with the event, and those cakes look fantastic. Our mouths are watering just seeing them!!👍

Kjell, you will be relieved to have sold the Smart car at an agreeable price I guess. Hope your new car last you as long as the old one.

Rufs, we are staying in a CL at Barmby Moor, not that far from York, but not see anything like that in the photo.

Hope the "man who can" isn't too long in coming to you, B2, and you get a!l your other jobs sorted too.

We had continuous heavy rain for 6+ hrs over night, and although today has been fine and dry it has started to rain again😖. Just hope that this time it passes over much more quickly. Fingers crossed that the ground isn't too wet in the morning as we are due to move into our next site then. Had a short drive up onto the Wolds today, stopping off at Bishop Wilton for a walk through the lovely village and then at Great Givendale, visiting the church before calling in at Pocklington for food supplies.

After a day of some spectacular rain showers, fower beds underwater and lawn looks like a lake, we had this pop out from behind the clouds early in the evening. More rain forecast for this week. could be a good time to sort out our official filing cabinet.

Nice photos Nellie and Rufs. We had a lovely moon last night as well, but it clouded over during the night, and it’s very wet this morning here after a nice day yesterday. We enjoyed a late afternoon walk at Wentworth before it dropped dark, there was a local service of Remembrance on in the church, so it looked lovely lit up in the dusk, with some stirring organ music drifting along “the last mile” as the walk is known. Forecast is awful here this week, so it’s choose your walk time carefully.

Up at Mum’s today. Ho hum………..

Not a bad day here, chilly but dry, and even a couple of hours of sun.

Did not make much progress with our filing of paperwork, but have raided the savings accounts to be ready to pay for  the new car tomorrow.

Also spent several hours helping OH to prepare the application for funding and loan from the Scottish Government to assist with insulating the walls and floor in our local Guide Hall.     Being a 61 year old wooden building with no insulation in the walls, or floor, it does get rather chilly in there in the depths of winter, as the heating, though good, cannot heat it up as fast as the heat is lost!

There is a lot of paperwork required to accompany the application, so not a quick job to assemble it all.

Yes we went up there back in 2015 when we had the 3 wheeled scooter (Peugeot Metropolis) it's a fair climb up but many do manage it on bikes. Today we cycled into Puerto Mazarron for lunch at the Moroccan restaurant at the Marina.

Weather was really good until late afternoon when it clouded over. Still in shorts and vest tops though smile we are sat in the gloom but the hills around us have sun shining on them still so look very inviting.

Certainly a different weather pattern this year, while we now have sun there is no real heat to it as in past years at this time. Maybe it will pick up and it will be a lovely winter for those coming down. Last year we were still heading south at this time, while this year we are heading north. Going on the ferry just 5 days earlier than last year.

Our week in Galicia was wonderful, such beautiful scenery and coastline, boy was it hot though. Already discussing the 'where to' for next year 😅

Thankfully we had no problems getting off the all grass site we were on at Barmby Moor, Burton Holme Fm, as the land was solid even after all the rain we had. At Kexby Bridge we could see that the River Derwent was in flood, but it not reached the main road. Arrived at our chosen site, Rudding House Fm, at Pannal, in pouring rain, to find that although we had been told that the H/S pitches were usable they were covered in mud and there was no way to access the van without dragging the mud into it, so totally unsuitable for us. yellSo a quick phone call and we were fortunate to find that Lower Banks Fm at Huby, only a few miles down the road and which we knew well, were able to offer us their last pitch. So a quick turnaround and we were soon there, the rain had nearly stopped and we pitched up for the next 4 days. The gods were certainly on our side today!laughing

Glad to hear Burton Holme worked well for you Nellie, we had never had any issues with the grass there.   Shame we couldn’t get to say hello, we were away until yesterday but maybe another time. 🤞🏻. Good to hear you eventually got settled on another, more suitable site too.

I hope all went well yesterday for your OH Millie.

My sister has gone into hospital today, should be a day patient, to have a breast tumour removed.  It was found from a recent mammogram.  Thank heavens for mammograms  as without that they would never have known it was there as it was so deep and couldn’t be felt.

Hope everything stays safe for all in the coming bad weather.

Heddlo, hope your sisters operation went well, I also had a lump removed from my breast last year which was found following a routine mammogram, so I am also very grateful for the mammograms.  I received the all clear today from my first mammogram following treatment.

Not been a bad day weatherwise, OH had an eye test, luckily he doesn't need new glasses so his wallet heaved  a sigh of relief 🤣

Our neighbours next door moved out at the weekend, new one's due to move in tomorrow, we've been very lucky so far with the neighbours  so keeping fingers crossed.🤞

Glad you managed to find a new site Nellie.

Millie hope everything went well yesterday for your OH.

HelenandTrevor wonderful news that today your got the all clear 🤞 for the next one.

Good news on new glasses front for your OH.

Hopefully you new neighbours will be quiet and friendly and settle well. Neighbours can make or break how you feel, about your home.

Heddlo I hope your sisters treatment went well today and she'll be able to follow in Helen's footsteps in due course.

We had a day of mixed weather, managed a good dry walk with Dora, even if it was wet underfoot. I'm now getting a selection of off lead walks for various weather conditions. Fields are a definite no no when it's damp or wet. I completely understand why there were so many brickworks in our locality! But we have some super green tracks/footpaths/bridleways within a short drive. Lots of heavy showers as the day went on.

We had a slow start to the day and that was the sum total of my exertions today 🙂. All turf, including my over calculation 😊, now laid. Naturally there wasn't quite enough to complete the front extension, but that can be laid in the spring. The damp weather, thick fog overnight cleared by rain as the sun rose is very well timed for me. I have to say my gluts and legs know it today 😉. Our garden help worked really hard too, shorter daylight hours. It involved preparing the ground - removing endless quantities of perpetual cornflowers, very pretty but left unattended for years. We also dug out daffodil bulbs, well those that were pushing themselves upwards, just a wheelbarrow full! Lots still below the level of the turfs should be pretty in the spring. Wheelbarrow placed at the end of the drive so passers by could help themselves, dog walkers only ones prepared - poo bags 😉and all had new homes in a couple of hours. I transplanted lots too, but our garden is absolutely covered in daffs in the spring. I deadhead 600 last year!

I'm hoping to have similar days like today over the next few days, the weather appears to be encouraging such behaviour 😀. Notsure I'm good at not having a target to complete. It's been 2 plus years of 'the move'. I can settle back to reading, sewing etc exciting!

I hope Mr Milliehull is recovering from his procedure Monday and everyone is recovering from the early start!

Hope no one is adversely effected by the coming storm. Nelliethehooker I'm glad you found a suitable alternative site. I don't understand why the CL owner wasn't aware of the issues? Are you settled until after the forecast 2 storms pass?

Thanks, Heddlo, and Helen too. I think we were very fortunate in getting onto this site as we have had rain nearly all day today and I dread to think what the other site is like now. Perhaps we will be able meet up the next time we are over your way, Heddlo. Fingers crossed that your sister's op went without a hitch.

Hope that there were no problems with your OH's hospital visit yesterday, Millie, and that all went as as planned.

It has been another miserable day today. We went to Harewood House, anticipating a house tour but it was closed as they are preparing for Christmas. We did have a couple of walks, around the lakes and the Himalayan garden. There were some spectacular trees in full autumn colours, although i have no idea of whst the shrub is, and saw both Roe and Red Deer in the grounds. Being Halloween I think this character that we saw is appropriate

😡😡😡 More jolly essential maintenance so.unable to reply. It happens that often at 2200 I wonder if they put it on life support overnight?

Nelliethehooker that tree is stunning.. I suspect its a maple. They are having an extra colourful autumn this year. Always good in the autumn, several varieties to choose from.  Shame you didn't get a tour of the house.

After a restful day I'm making an early start. It was dry, but naturally as I'm about to prepare for the dog walk it's started to rain. At least outerwear is decided without dithering🌧☔️

    Enjoy your day folks

Great news Helen - Ros went through the same thing about 15 years ago - diagnosed twice with DCIS and she's been absolutely clear (after surgery) - thank goodness - so I'm sure the prospects for you will be just as good.

Had a long day, yesterday.  Arrived at Pennine View Caravan Park, at Kirby Stephen on Monday afternoon and got set up - only to have to dismantle everything yesterday morning to be at the dealers (about 10 miles away) for 08.30. The service was completed by 1430 (plus a few 'freebie' little jobs!) and I was so relieved that everything was OK. Even though I've no reason for concern, I always view the dreaded damp test with a bit of apprehension.

Back to PV and all set up again by1530 and heating on full blast since it was so bitterly cold.

The plan was to have a day of rest today and set off back home tomorrow but looking at the weather forecast, travelling on Friday will be more sensible which is what I'm going to do.  Just hope that the predicted heavy rain tomorrow doesn't cause problems around York (notably Kexby) - otherwise it's the longer trip via the M62.undecided It's absolutely pouring down at the moment.

This site is completely full over the coming weekend - their last day of opening for the year, being Sunday. Since it's a lovely little site and only £25 per night for massive pitches, I'm not surprised - and the facilities are every bit as good, if not better than most CAMC sites. I wonder how they do itwink

Yesterday we exchanged our car for a newer one - same make, same colour, same reg - but a higher spec. We had a comprensive handover showing us most of the bells and whistles, but by we got home I had forgotten most of it. We know the wipers work as it was raining as it seems to do every day. I know that Land Rover Discovery get a bad press, but this is our 4th, and when I suggested looking at other makes I couldn't think of a comparable one and my husband was adamant in what he wanted - and as he's the driver I'm very happy to go with it. I just wish it was a different colour!

There's no phsical manual now, so I'm looking at the online version to find where to plug in my USB pen full of music. I don't always want to listen to the hundreds of radion stations it brought up.

And today is changeover day for the cows - no more going out to grass between milkings. Fields are too wet and the grass growth has slowed right down. There's plenty of room for them indoors - individual cubicles with "mattressess", feeding alley ways and room to wander. And a short walk twice a day to the parlour.

I know exactly how you feel about the essential maintenence, Bakers2, but I guess they have to do it when they consider is the quietist time....  However, it is quite often late at night when I get to CT, so I do often suffer from essential maintenence syndrome....

Well Goldie, at least they gave you a decent handover, even if you forgot a lot of it.  When I bought my Skoda from Arnold Clarks in Preston, 2 years ago, the salesman made no effort to show my anything at all, just took me to the car in the rainy car park and gave me the keys. My previous car was a 19 years old Nissan Primera  and had no onboard computer or similar at all, so I was a bit nervous driving the Skoda at first.  It did have a manual, but my next door neighbour is a Skoda mechanic, so showed me most of the basics.

I sorned the M/H yesterday as I don't usually tour in the winter and according to the BBC, the next dry day in Southport isn't until a week on Saturday so it is certainly making up for the dry weather earlier this year.

I wonder if the cows prefer being indoors to outdoors?  Which do you and your O/H prefer?

It's a different routine in winter - more mucking out and feeding, and no quiet contemplative walks to get the cows in. It seems a long time till April. Some stock is still outside but all will be in by mid December.

Hope folks with health issues goes well and good news for those with recent results.

Very wet here had about 80mm in the last week although yesterday was partly dry in the afternoon and some sunshine but back to rain today and more forecast for the next few days.

Nth the shrub is a Calicarpa Japonica Luxians as it was on my Calendar when I turned the page over, and great Autumnal photos  not much colour here yet.

National holiday here today Toussaint so folks are going to the local cemetery with their pots of flowers or artifical flowers not too keen on them as very bright colours.

Just had a go at making some carrot and coriander soup and it tastes good and a easy recipe to do.

Gosh Goldie memories of mucking out in the winter at a local farm I used to help out as a teenager.

Take folks in the areas of the storm that is due over the next couple of days.
