Unable to access CT website

To me there seems nothing new in the fact that "Essential Maintenance" always seems to happen from around 10.00pm in the evenings. I have no idea what they do in these close down sessions but they are so regular perhaps those late posters should perhaps try and post earlier to avoid disappointment? Perhaps the period on closedown is the time when fewest members tend to book sites which is, lets face it, the primary purpose of the website with CT, as we know, coming a far second?

Not "always", David. Last week it suddenly went off around 6pm until about 8pm one day and then went again around 10pm. One morning it was off as well. Sometimes it’s one evening per week while at others it can be 2, 3 or 4 evenings. The whole thing is totally unpredictable.
I don’t think we need to know why the site is taken down but it would sure be nice to know when it’s going off. In fact, it would be courteous to inform users.

Not supporting anyone just putting out there what the general facts are. Whilst it may be down at odd times during the day most essential maintenance seems to happen from around 10.00pm. Obviously if people are only available to use the forum at that time they are going to be impacted more than those that use the forum at a variety of times during the day. I am just being practical. Being informed it's going to happen would be nice, I agree, but those only using it late in the evening are unlikely to get the message anyway? I think we are all aware that the "powers that be" don't give CT a high priority and unfortunately that has been the case since it started.

Hi everyone,
As it stands, the Club has regular scheduled maintenance across the website to keep updating various system and business requirements.
Following your feedback we will do our best to advise in advance where we can of any future planned work on the Club website where you will be unable to access the website or forum.

Thanks, Rowena. Years ago, back in the mists of time, we used to be advised of downtime but then the practice stopped. It’s good to hear you will reinstate it.

Yes good to read that, but why has I taken numerous and frequent complaints on here before Ro, or someone else at HO has had the decency to supply we members with at least the prospect of notification of closure of the website, especially as the maintenance is planned?

Thanks David for you explanation of your post, but it is not right that a moderator has to provide the excuses for the lack of notification of closure due to planned essential maintenance.

Does it matter? I’m just pleased that we have a positive reaction. 👍🏻

But it does matter, TW. Had this issue not been raised by WN initially, and the discussion that followed, then nothing would have been done, if it come to fruition, that is. We would still be no further forward in finding out when the site was going to be down. As you yourself posted it is not just at the end of the day that it happens but occasionally during times when many are trying to look at and book sites, which is most frustrating for many I suspect.

….and now it’s been addressed so I see no point in holding an inquest. Life's too short to get worked up about what’s gone before.

If in the main if it is regular scheduled maintenance, as stated, it should be possible to publish down times, perhaps in News and Events, well in advance. The NatWest usually give me at least a weeks notice. An annoying pop up would be better but that might be to much to hope for.

But it hasn't as of yet been addressed. All we have is a statement that they will try to advise in advance where we can of any future planned work on the Club website where you will be unable to access the website or forum, to quote Ro. There have been similar promises of informing members about aspects of the club but which seldom see the light of day. I guess for the time being it is just a case of wait and see if that information is forthcoming.

The proof of the pudding, so to speak.
Thanks, Rowena👍🏻

Seems as if persistence pay off. Had this discussion not taken place then I am sure there would not have been that posting. However thankfully it's there today, and hopefully in all the further occasions of "outage".

Good idea but a sticky would really only get to those of us in CT? Maybe a banner on the main website as well perhaps on the day itself? I was on one website today when it said when the site would be down.

Many of us on CT don't seem to access CT via the main page. I certainly don't but I take your point.
As there isn't a tax on words (at the moment) can't see why they can't do both, after all one of Ro's responsibilities does seem to be looking after CT.

There's all sorts of 'maintenance' that's required on a system these days...
some of it is required on the CT/CAMC applications like enhancements and changes to cover the myriad promotions that are being created at the moment.
these will require the host to run updates for CAMC, to a schedule, to make live the changes to support the promotions.
OTOH, the base operations/server systems (Windows etc) have their own schedule of fixes, upgrades and housekeeping, just as we users do on our home PCs or iPads and phones.
most hosting companies would be managing these technical updates into out of hours batches to allow a sensible managed diary, otherwise the system would be going down all the time🤷🏻♂️

I'm talking about for people who don't use CT, to do as your good suggestion would only target those on CT. On the main page and/or onto the login page would get those who just use the site for bookings and other things.

Well that worked well last night NOT! What was the use of Ro posting it I wonder? Perhaps just a sop so as to stop members complaining about how bad the club is with providing information to us all.
I am not having a go at you TW but I was unable to access the link, and wanted to highlight it.

What can I say?🤷🏻♂️
I have a suspicion that Rowena wasn’t around and, as with other aspects of her role, nobody seems to step in. 😣

Still getting the 'application error' message that others have reported. I naively assumed the last two outages might have fixed this....👎👎👎👎
