New Booking System

At the bottom of the site pages on the new system they put links on to site layout, site information and there is something else which I just can’t remember at the he moment, why not put the link there for directions or is that too simple and means common sense

I did manage to book two sites this week, I found the system cumbersome and complicated, I was slightly anxious it would take out two desposts or end up paying full price if I had clicked the wrong button, or not select the right choice of pitch... but managed to get there in the end, albeit very slowly. Maybe I am so used to the old familiar system, anyway we're stuck with it.

Can I ask did you book through the website or the app? I’ve tried to book today and went all through it correctly then the payment was going through then says payment cancelled. I know my bank card is ok because I’ve used it since. Tried twice but same thing happened I booked through the website 🤷🏼♀️

DT, are you trying to view CL information?

DK, I assume you mean Overwater Marina. This has been taking full payment for years now, mainly due to having a small commercial site next door which operates in the same way. I tried to book 2 nights on the way home next weekend but both were full and would have paid the full amount as we still have to stop somewhere in the area.
Just to reiterate what Nellie said. We will have used 6 CLs and 2 Independent sites when we arrive home. 5 CLs didn't need any deposit, 1 Commercial site didn't need a deposit, 1 CL needed full payment the week before we arrived but refundable if they could relet and the other Commercial site took 1 night deposit for a 7 night stop. All perfectly acceptable to me.
I think it was TW who mentioned that deposits were not the man gripe but the implementation and absolute dogs dinner of a website that the CAMC foisted on members without proper communication (still waiting this). Apparently the system is slowly improving but even members who use CAMC sites a lot are finding the system hard to get around.

New booking system is awful! Loved the original but this is dreadful.
Now looking into membership elsewhere. Pointless bothering with something that's clearly giving members issues.
I've seldom had cause to complain apart from rude and arrogant wardens who seem to forget they would be out of a job without paying members but this is something else!!

It was the website both times. I did have one problem when I hadn't entered my DOB as lead 'booker' or whatever it's called the very first time but it seemed to have remembered me for the second.

Perhaps many of the sites which don't ask for deposits are if you have been there before, it depends on what time of year you are staying and/or if your stay includes a weekend.
I am a single tourer, so for me it is usually cheaper to stay on Club sites, so I am very much hoping that the booking site will improve!

Unless you are using the no facility sites(such as Bromyard Downs, etc..) I doubt you will get a Club Site cheaper for a single person than many CLs offer nowadays. My OH used to tour solo, with me joining him when I could, so we made use of the cheaper Club Sites, but that was some eight years ago, and Club Site prices have rocketed since then. Some small private sites do/did offer a single person rate, and still no deposits.

I've been requested to keep booking system posts here...
Is it just me? I have just come back to the website to look for another CL, and all seems totally different, the map is AWFUL and the CL and Club Site pages seem completely inaccessible. I can still access some CL pages as before, as I have them saved as bookmarks, but there seems to be no links within the new website layout to get to them.
The amount of detail abbout any given site that pops up in the side tab is sadly lacking - badly lacking - compared to the previous CL and Club Site pages, and the map detail shows no local roads, no directions to the site, and no satellite view.
The whole website redesign and new layout appears to be a total move backwards, and its usability compared to the previous version, is right out the window.I really can't be the only one having this problem, surely?!!

79 pages of complaints should tell you you're not the only one, Pugwash.

Pugwash, Hold your I pad horizontal instead of vertical. Works well and gives you all the answers you are looking for

I've been been using a Samsung android tablet and anroid phone and find the booking system so slow its impossible to use, this morning I tried it on my laptop windows 10 it was completely different running at a normal speed and enabling the map to be used, there seems to have been no improvement in the android functionality since the launch.

They have certainly rocketed lately but they not only have to pay more for electricity but for gas to warm the facilities blocks, so I am not too surprised.
I have stayed at Borrowdale, Hebden Bridge and North Yorkshire Moors sites which don't have toilet blocks but are lovely sites, but I really prefer sites with facilities blocks, which is why I don't stay at too many CLs. The CLs that I have stayed on have been more expensive than I would have paid for at Club sites (at that time), but that is because they were all near canals, which I wanted to visit and 2 of them were run by marinas, so I expected them to be more expensive.
I have started to have a look at CLs for next year which are in reasonable localities and have good facilities but I envisage that CLs with facilities, will have to put up their costs as well.

While in the loo early this morning I overheard twotalki g about how expensive site were getting one said we save money on club sites at weekends as most tend to.be very busy and the warden's so not normally check who's in the caravans so we only book for me and wife and forget to book the kids , no one checks

Apologies if this has been raised ad nauseum but when I tried to book a site in Norfolk a couple of days ago, the first one was full. OK, fair enough, ut why do I then have to put in details of what I am tugging, and what I am tugging with, and preferred dated for every new site? It is utterly ridiculous. Obviously no-one has been through this fool-proofing the system to any sensible extent. I used to spend weeks with staff simulating every process we had specified and a good few we hadn't when I was leading new manufacturing software installations, and whilst invariably not perfect, at least it never fell at these sort of first hurdles of nonsensical requirements. Automation and software is meant to make things reliably easy for end users, not employ programmers for ever.

My wife is lucky enough to still have the old app on her mobile, I have the new one. She's resisted the update. We've been researching club sites and CLs in the Dorchester area.
My wife has looked at several CLs, browsing the map and reading reviews on her old app whilst my new app is still loading up the map.
The new app is not fit for purpose. This is not good enough.

Ignore the app. Just use the website. Click on Find a UK Campsite and scroll down from there . Cls and their reviews are listed county by county.

Not on my kindle it doesn't! Being away, which having a touring unit is all about, and not having a computer to play with, I and most others in a similar situation have to make do with what we have with us, i-Pads, kindles and phones etc, and the changes made to the booking system have made it near impossible to search for sites, CLs in particular. One should not have to find work arounds to access the information that should be readily available on the club's site pages, as it was prior to the recent changes.

When I updated it still kept the old app on my phone, did your old one go?
There was a problem with the new one where it said I had to be a member to view my membership card even though all my bookings were there?
I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling it then it worked fine.
I only used the old app to show my card on arrival, I don't use it for planning on the move but for those who do it should be fit for purpose and not good enough as you say

Using Chrome on a Windows 10 laptop, from the Homepage after signing in & clicking on My Membership it takes me to the window with 6 options.... (see screenshot below)
When I select View your bookings it still takes me to the bookings page & not my bookings!! (see the 2nd screenshot below)
If I select My UK site bookings from the homepage or via My Profile it still takes me to the 2nd screenshot
My membership card is not showing in the App again despite being logged in & showing my name & bookings.
Tap Home screen button bottom l/h side, then Your Info at top of list it asks me to sign in again, then shows Membership card as it does on website but every time I press the back button it asks me to sign in again.....
What a mess.
Even a search via Google or Microsoft Edge (Bing) comes up with different looking pages!

Just tried this tonight to be totally shocked by the changes. Deposit is bad enough but the one that gets me is the fact it’s asking for all the details of my 3 children. Doesn’t let me book unless I give their full names and dates of birth. I have nothing to hide but then why is this even relevant to the club? I’ve got no issues with DOB but asking for names just seems to be going too far.
a clear response as to why from the club would be useful0 -
Must be device / browser related. On an iPad using safari, I get taken to my bookings wether I go in from the six options page or from My Profile. Strangely I only get to see the six options when I touch login, when in the members area, although I am already logged in.🤔

It seems from reports that it seems to be working alright?at site office level? For attending to arrivals
when I mentioned have you looked at the 70plus pages of posts with the problems most non IT. Guru members are having they did not realise but they would now have a lurk

Please correct me if I'm wrong but surely the requirement for full names and dates of birth of children in a party is illegal in terms of the Data Protection Act. In Scouting we have it drilled into us that information recorded about a child must be relevant and kept to an absolute minimum. To book a pitch I can see no relevance in knowing the full names and/or D.O.B. of any children in the party. If there is an age when children are charged at a different rate to adults then the question should be "is the child under (or over) X years".
Additional to the requirement to not collect irrelevant information about children, any information collected, assuming this is for a specific event eg, a booking for 1 week at a site, then all the information about the child, wherever it is held, must be destroyed immediately after the event has occurred.

I suspect it's because the same system is used for both UK and Overseas bookings. For the latter that information would be required. Even for the the UK bookings given that there is no charge for under 5's and a reduced charge for children between 5 and 17 I suppose one could argue that it is also required for UK bookings? If it is just a hangover from the Overseas Bookings what none of us know is how easy it would be to remove from the UK side of the bookings, only the Club can tell us that.

DK, I still can't understand why that information would be required whether for UK or Overseas bookings. It is irrelevant in terms of booking. If it is for an overseas booking then the child's passport would be sufficient for the authorities, of which CaMC is not one. Whether it is easy to remove or not, the collection of irrelevant data is illegal.

Could we please have an udate on when this new system will be fit for purpose, you said above that Members and guests are able to make bookings through the new system however this is not the complete experience we have designed. I would suggest that there are a great many members unable or are finding it very difficult to make bookings depending on what device, operating systems and network speed they have, some information on the progress of fixing these issues would be welcome or is it the intention to ignore and hope it goes away.
