How's your footy team doing?

Looks like the English football team is going the same way as the cricket test team.😵

God that made me feel old!
I had an email from the EFL inviting me to sync the fixture list to my iPhone and iPad diaries. I put my email address in no problem then they needed my date of birth by way of a drop down menu. Day, no problem between 1 and 6; month, no problem between 1 and 4; year, I had to scroll down a hell of a long way!!
The first couple of times I tried they said they had an issue which they’d fix and to try again so I had to reinforce how old I am three times🤬
Now I’ve checked my diaries to find that I’ve got three entries for each fixture day. The wonders of modern technology 🤓
Burnley up for the first match with Kompany as manager, that’ll be interesting

Less than a week to the start of the season (Town kick off on Friday against Burnley) thanks again Sky. It seems to me that football is very rarely played at 3-00 pm on a Saturday anymore.
The club look to have recruited fairly well. One returning ex player, a number of players making a step up from lower leagues and a first for Town, a Japanese internationalist!

Wish I could say the same Brian but we got a lesson on how to play football last night.
Burnley played us off the park in the first half and Town were very lucky to go in at half-time only one down. They played much better in the second half especially when two of our new players were introduced.
You could see the influence of Kompany’s years at Man City in the way Burnley played, they passed the ball brilliantly and for long periods Town couldn’t get the ball off them, and when they did they gave it straight back 🤬
Still it’s early days

Fabulous result. So proud of them, and what a great tournament. Lots of matches brought out into different areas of country, our town hosted a round of the group matches, and a quarter final. Next door city hosted England’s winning semi.
What has been amazing is seeing so many children enjoying the matches, and the lovely camaraderie. We should have been at one of the matches, but had to pass tickets on to other family members, but just so glad England now has laid ‘66 to rest at long last. I suspect the support for Women’s football will go through the roof this year, long may it continue👏👏👏0 -
No double decker buses for the 2022 Euro champions. . .They just partied with their supporters-a Team of the people well supported by the people. Superb👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I feel your pain but we spent nowt and promoted an assistant coach and we’re rock bottom.
I must be stupid but I went down to the ground today and bought a ticket for the league cup match tomorrow night. It’s the hope that kills you!

Anybody heard how Pliers is doing? She's normally a regular on this thread but I can't remember seeing anything from her for some months now and what with Haaland joining I would have thought she might have mentioned it.
Hope all is well.

I’ll second that.
My GS is infinitely wiser than me. He turned down my offer to buy him a ticket for last night’s match.
What a shambles, I’ve never seen such an inept performance from a Town team and I’ve been supporting them for over 60 years. PNE could have had six or seven without breaking sweat.
Im beginning to regret renewing our season tickets, but I suppose I’ll have to go on Saturday to see them get slaughtered again.

WN, Pliers most recent post came from " Camping L'Amfora " or some such place when they arrived on 17 / 6 so might not be over interested in English footy season yet -- much too dry and waiting 'til it's 30 Fahrenheit not 30 Centigrade !!

I was listening to a radio 4 programme the other day on BBC Sounds called "Sideways". It might interest the people on here as the programme was devoted to Sports and Legal Deception of Opponents. Quite an interesting half hour. The reason it's on here is that it introduced me to the pioneer of data analysis that pervades and exists in every major football team in the UK methinks. The pioneer's story is in the attached website.
It does pass a good half hour of anyone's time who is interested in sport in general.

Cheers Brian. I know that they went to Spain for their jollies but expected her to be back for the new season as they are season ticket holders.
Still, I hope that all is well and that they are just taking a break from the multiple Server Errors on here, far in excess of what one sees at Wimbledon in their little tournament.

Well that was a refreshing change from the dross served up in the last three matches.
Its amazing what three points can do at this stage of the season. Town jumped 10 places on the strength of this afternoon’s win.
However they were replaced at the bottom by the Canaries, sorry One Putt. You’ll get your revenge on Tuesday evening at Carrow Road I guess
What a pleasant change to be watching a match at 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon, it’s 147 days since Town played at that time

All is well, thanks, Wherenext. Had half given up with CT, the server errors were doing my head in ….😱
Anyway, 1st home match of the new season today. Scorchio 🌞, certainly not typical Manchester weather. Good game and very good result.
Haarland? Stood there like Piffy on a rock bun for most of the game, but I’m sure he’ll improve. 🙂.
Keep the faith, footy fans. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Worry not Town are at Carrow Road tomorrow night that’s three points guaranteed. The last time Town played there they got drubbed 7-0
Apparently the Canaries were all over Hull on Saturday but couldn’t take their chances unfortunately I can’t see that happening again .
Good time to be a Blue eh Pliers. City at the top and the swamp dwellers rock bottom!

I normally only hear that from the OH! Mind you she is from Radcliffe. Not Bury and definitely not Bolton but Radcliffe.
I know exactly how you feel about server errors. Drive you mad.
