Again, very true, even on two couple sites only one couple will be on duty for some days a week I’m told. Then of course some think staff should be available for 12 hours a day and a few believe 24hours a day. Without a proper ‘rest’ break or without the out the possibility of disturbance?
Anyway, that aside, we know the time and it’s up to us to get it right!

Again you must admit that these sites are abroad. Whatever happens abroad has no relevance in a thread about UK club sites and its rules.
What we wouldn't ever do is allow ourselves to be treated like "naughty children" who need teaching a lesson which seems to be your chosen option.
But you're not a child, you're a responsible adult who should be able to plan and/or abide by rules you have agreed to, or do you think they do not apply to you?
...satisfy adherence to a "rule" it would certainly been a one way trip.
By writing rule in quotation marks like this appear you do think the rules don't apply to you? Well it looks as if you will be turned away if you arrive early now?

The idea is that leavers go before 12pm so that shouldn't happen. However what I said referred to sites that do have waiting capacity.
Things might improve when CAMC members know they will have their chosen pitch type on arrival.
At Old Hartley early arrivals now see a board telling them not to obstruct the residential road, not to park on the green alongside it and to park up and wait in a nearby large free car park.
Every site is different and the 1pm arrival is not to do with time it's the fact that many arrive together be it 1pm or 12pm so the congestion will happen in many places.

I think you could also, actually should also, be able to do that calculation in your head rather than rely on your tomtom, especially as if you state that it is so inaccurate. Just adjust the times it says and add on 30 minutes or whatever the error is
I have towed with a satnav but now use a the phone (through carplay) tow and will check the stated ETA with my own rough calculations, I sure the formula?
If you see you're only five/ten/15 miles away and it's obvious you're going to arrive early then pull over or slow down. Your sat nav will be able to tell you where a suitable place is.
You are the driver you can't blame arriving early on your sav nav.

I tow most of the time these days, I research the journey length before hand, then my Sat Nav gives me an ETA and continues to give me real time updates as I proceed. If I’m running early I find a solution as that is right and proper. I would never have thought of blaming technology but there again I can see some would use that rather unjustifiable excuse.
I do think the message will only get through to some if there is a consequence for them deliberately or repeatedly flaunting the arrival time. Of course some will not like being advised, corrected or reminded no matter how sensitively this is put over.

When we were both working and time was more of an issue, I must admit I did, on occasions (not in peak season when we wouldn't be using club sites anyway), phone sites to ask if it was possible to arrive earlier than midday. That was over 10 years ago when there was possibly less pressure on spaces. But I would never just turn up on spec, whatever the circumstances, and expect to be let in.
Some of the "excuses" used here seem a bit akin to Dominic Cummings saying he drove to Barnard Castle during the lockdown through no fault of his own, he just happened to arrive there!

We have only ever been caught up in the debacle that can be arrival time on a Club Site once. That was Old Hartley, and we were actually trying to get out! The selfish so and so’s queuing all up the approach road simply would not let us out, all shuffling desperately forward without leaving a gap or being courteous. In the end I physically stood in front of an outfit so he couldn’t move without forward without flattening me, so my OH could nip around the gate. Goodness knows what local folks must think of such behaviour. Times like that make you ashamed to be a Member.
We passed the gates to Chatsworth last week at around 12.35pm. I noticed three outfits on the drive. One more and the road through Baslow would have been blocked. Utterly selfish.

Quite agree David, this technology is for guidance only, pardon the pun! It’s up to you, the human operator to compensate for the known inadequacies and do the right thing and find the right solution. You can do it, you know you can!👍

Particularly as there is a sign at the chain telling them to turn round and go away until 1pm. Well perhaps not in those words but that’s what it means.

Then really one shouldn't be relying on it at all which is what you appeared to be saying to PD, who can use his ETA as he drives a MH?.
Maybe it's because you are not towing that you get an accurate ETA but I have TomTom and a built in model tòo and the next time either of them get it to the nearest hour at the start of a journey will be the first. The only time they get anywhere near is around 15 mins before arriving
My tomtom and phone, the phone does it much better, both update their arrival times as the journey progresses based on traffic updates and my average speed, surely your ETA from your devices must change as you travel? I've had sat nav for over a good ten years now and they all did that.
Mine are actually quite accurate. But again I check using my own rough calculations.

Even with a MH our sat nav is optimistic and it knows it is in a MH. Typically it gives times about 30 minutes longer than Google but you can still add another 30 minutes onto them. Therefore if as we set off and it predicts a 1 pm arrival we arrive at 1:30, hopefully after all the madness has died down. I can only assume those who arrive early just ignore sat nav / Google predictions, there really isn’t any other explanation.

Never been Steve. There were a couple of MHs pulled into a layby a bit further on, at least they were sensible.
I am utterly baffled though, and have been for ages about the race to get onto Site. Caravans to a certain extent I can see that it’s all about getting there, unhitching and then the holiday can start. But you see MH’s doing the same🤷♀️ Why? So easy in an MH to do something else on a travel day, even if you don’t intend driving after pitching up.

Why not just make your arguments and counter points without them? Do you have any to the points I raised then?

We have used Garmin sat navs for years and always found them accurate whether towing a cvan, in the MH or in a solo car. Only last week we travelled home from the Midlands in the MH and the sat nav adjusted the ETA all the way and was spot on.
We don't use the sat nav built into the van as it's almost unreadable so I can't comment on that but know the Garmin is trusty.

Good work! Chatting around with both members and staff alike this week it appears increasingly more and more sites are doing this. Having said that, it was rightly pointed out that those that abuse the appointed time are in the minority and that most members both adhere to it and agree with the action. Keep up the good work. Challenging I’d bet but done with politeness and with others in mind!

We live in a world where too many folks rely on technology at times. Superb at guidance, assistance, but too many seem to have diluted basic common sense as well, which is ultimately what is lacking at times. Not helped of course previously by the Club sending out mixed messages.

Mine was like Oddjobs though……occasionally I could fling it back at a miscreant and they were barred forever from spoiling the fun of others👍

Who remembers Microsoft Autoroute? I've still got the box and CD (no downloads then) labelled 2003. No tablets or phone then so I had to print out the route and directions before travel.
I used to print them out in colour at school. Yes I know very naughty

We are very low tech here. Usually have a look at map, Google average travel time, then just tootle along. Something always has us stopping off, be it castle, walk, farm shop, big house, pigs in a field, roadside food for sale. We gave up rushing around when work ended. Used to do Cornwall in a day. Now it can take a week…🤣

Oh, yes. We thought it was the greatest thing ever at the time but printing out the route could result in a mountain of paper.
OH still says to me at times to check it on Autoroute. What?!!🤣

Nowadays we rarely go anywhere we’ve not been before. But if we do, I look at the suggested route on Google, then write it down in simple steps. E.G. - J36 - J16 - turn off onto A500. Etc.
I also input the postcode/address into the car’s Sat Nav (in case of road closures and diversions). But keep it running in the background without it distracting me (as navigator).
And we set off at a time that approximates to that needed to get there about the prescribed time. We never manage it. We’re always late. Too many Comfort Stops.

Not at all, you should be able to set up your sat nav for what you are driving. My estimates of ETA update as I go along compensating for delays and breaks or if I am doing the journey faster than the original estimate when I set out. It is easy to see how the journey is progressing and what my arrival time will be. If it is as inaccurate as you say it is either set up incorrectly or you need a new sat nav.

Before we do a journey I Google distance and time, add on some stops, change the route sometimes, occasionally use streetview to look up an approach and then with a fair wind behind we set sail...
Satnavs only get used for complicated addresses, usually inner city ones.Most site directions recommend not using sat navigation on final approaches and to follow the written instructions.
Over the years laybys have become important with a van, there is a good truckers web site that shows stops that suit all. There are some camp sites with very few stopping places on the approach so it pays to check things out.

thread drift .... Now that COVID restriction have been mostly lifted, what's the justification for 1300hr check in? I don't do weekends away (I work them) but if I did, a weekend break is short enough without having to start it an hour later. During the winter, if you arrive at 1300hrs it'll be getting dark a couple of hours later. I don't buy the age old argument of wardens having an hour for dinner, they're public facing & should be working around Joe Public - not the other way round. And queues can be created later in the day too, not just 1200/1300hrs. A warden at Morton-in-Marsh added 2 & 2 and got 5 when he thought I was trying to jump the queue when we arrived mid afternoon along with another 3 or 4 units, I had the choice of waiting in the middle of the road or pulling up before the barrier 2 abreast. He shut up when I said I wasn't going to leave 40+ ft of car & caravan in the middle of the road.
Re sat .... I just feed the destination into WAZE &/or my car's sat-nav & follow it using a bit of common sense. There are bigger vehicle on the road than me & (on the whole) they all manage.
