I forgot to say, the club itself at the beginning of COVID published the fact 1 pm arrival time was being Temporarily bought in due to COVID., to enable wardens to carry out extra cleaning duties.

There are that many now members of both the cc and the ccc that the 1300 earliest arrivals has been standardised over both clubs to save the easily confused of both clubs mistakenly arriving at either club too early

As a former member (now no longer a member or a touring caravan owner wink) I'm reading this thread with increasing bewilderment. There are folk who rarely set foot on a club site criticising the club for standardising arrival times and there are others complaining but still booking and turning up (despite the arrival time and "sky high" prices).

What is the problem? Either you accept that this is the way the club wants to proceed or you vote with your wheels - 2 choices spring to mind - either stay with the club but choose one of the many CLs in the area you want to visit (they may be slightly more flexible) or leave the club and choose one of the many superior and cheaper private sites that are often mentioned  (though in my experience over the years they're not likely to be any better in terms of arrival arrangements).

It's not exactly rocket science is it? undecided

Very good, thanks, I knew it saw it somewhere.TEMPORARY is the word to consider, not as some folks seem to accept as inevitable or already decided. Previously if I booked a site it was for mostly 24 hrs, if I want to arrive late or leave early then that is my choice but I want the 24hr option as a member

There was a long discussion a couple of months ago about changes to site opening times HERE.

Previously sites opened at various times, some at 12pm some at 1pm it wasn't standardised at a particular time previously. I haven't checked but Coniston and Edinburgh still have a much earlier arrival time?

This thread was about people arriving before the stated times so whatever the times being debated (rather late in the process) the original OP on here wasn't happy to see people arriving too early.

It's such a pointless debate as arrival times in recent years were never fixed at 12pm for all sites, some sites were 1pm.

As JK said in the linked thread, no matter what the arrival time is someone will always appear on site early! wink

If those who think covid add  cleaning in the past try telling that to the NHS who are still grappling with the ongoing problems covid is stil l causing ,

iI have been visiting my OH every day for the last nine days she has been an inpatient

Masks have to be warn by all staff and visitors, aprons to be warn by all visitors coming from outside and the wards are being continuously cleaned and that is all surfaces not just the floors,

I’m sure they do and will continue to do so, Brue. You can’t please all of the people…… and some will always seek to flout the rules.

I’ve discovered that one of the recent complainants was also unhappy with club sites and prices 6 years ago but is, evidently, still a member and using club sites. He also said in 2016 that he wouldn’t be visiting CT again. It's a shame that such remarks rather devalue his current argument making it even more pointless🙁.

It is inevitable, it is decided, I can't recall it being temporary but now for whatever reason it is temporary no more, likewise it was for 24 hours, and now it isn't. That's it. You don't have that option any more.

Just because something, anything, is labelled temporary that does not mean it cannot become permanent.

Perhaps the 'temporary' changes showed that it was a better way for the club to manage their sites, perhaps wardens to have a proper more manageable (legal) lunchbreak, no bottle necks with those leaving and those arriving, less traffic movement on site (yes people leaving and those arriving can and do be on site roads within a few minutes of 12, more time for wardens to do any necessary jobs on a vacated pitch. All of these thing might benefit me in some way.

I really have no idea about any of the above btw, but I don't care, the new time is 1pm. I just accept it.

My second law of CT - those that post to complain about the club and its sites still carry on using them extensively.

    Brue

    Apologies, Specsavers come to mindsurprised

I would agree that in most circumstances it is probably not an issue. We arrived at a Club site today just before 15.00 pm! Where it is more of an inconvenience is when you are moving shorter distances between sites. Having said that the last two sites we have been on, non Club sites, the arrival time has been 2.00pm!

What’s the obsession with being first in the gates as early as possible?

Only that I would rather be pitching on a Club Site rather than hanging around on my storage site or sitting in a lay-by waiting for the 13:00hrs arrival time, and then find yourself in a lengthy queue.

(Admitting that this was based on the CCC when they introduced it)

I can assure you that that at the ccc site we stayed at in April there was a queue at the gate every day we were there raging from two to about 16 waiting for the 1300 first arrival time

It does not matter a jot what are Val time is at any site club or commercial some will think it does not apply to them as ,in most walks of life with any "rules"

Unfortunately you are never going to please all the people, all the time. For every person who wants to get up and get going, there is likely to be one who wants to take things a little slower.  For us 1pm is a benefit if we want to get there at arrival time to secure a HS pitch. It gives us time to restock on the way without rushing. Or if starting out, extra time to bring it home from storage and fill it. Although soon it won’t matter as you’ll be able to book surface type.
That’s all gone a bit quite by the way, no mention of when in the latest newsletter.🤔

This thread has come to epitomise a lot of the very sad aspects of Club membership nowadays. 🤷‍♀️ Endless angst around what is really trivia in the larger scale of simply getting out and touring. Folks so bored they are sat on sites, poring over what is happening at the entrance gates, watching how the staff carry out their day to day tasks, and wanting to be consulted on every single decision the Club makes. 🤷‍♀️

That's bit like saying I've got my shopping bags and we're all set to go shopping but have to wait around till the shops open? Get ready a bit later or use the time to do something else?

Also it's not an arbitrary arrival time at all? It's based on planning, you may disagree with that planning but it is not arbitrary.

All the sites I have been on prior to the change had 11.00 departure time, leaving an hour gap before arrivals.

Tbh, those are 2 sites I would not have attempted to link together as the best access would be to backtrack up the A38/M5 from Torbay and then take the North Devon Link Road from the Tiverton jcn, and there are lay-bys on that one. I'd have told you that if you'd asked and I'd also have told you the area was one to stay away from in summer, especially last year of all years when the world and his wife were visiting.

Still, that's water under the bridge now but I can't understand why you get ready too early and then 'kill time'. That's a strange concept to me.

I can't see your problem the journey time is about 2 hrs you could have left Hillhead 11am or later and not be looking to stop on the way.

I'm glad of the 1pm arrival time as there is less chance of meeting early arrivals on some of the small roads to some sites.
