Help shape future facilities at UK Club campsites
Hi everyone!
Share your views about our UK Club campsite facilities and earn a cash reward!
We’re partnering with Discovery Research, an independent research agency, to gather some feedback to help us deliver great holidays on UK Club campsites. We love to hear your feedback on likes and dislikes, suggestions for improvements and reactions to new ideas.
We’re now looking for some members to take part in a short online research community to help shape future UK Club campsite facilities.
About the research community:
- The online community will run 11, 12 and 13 April 2022
- There will be 3 tasks to be completed - one per day
- Each task will take approximately 30-45 minutes
- To help us understand your thoughts, we may ask you to share pictures/ video about the topics we will be discussing
- By taking part you will earn a thank you cash reward!
To be eligible to take part you must:
- Have visited a UK Club campsite in the past 12 months
- Be available to participate 11, 12 and 13 April 2022
- If you fancy participating and can answer yes to both of the above questions, simply register your interest before before Wednesday 6 April by clicking HERE to complete a short Google form hosted by our trusted partner Discovery Research.
As you’ll appreciate, we need to involve a really good mix of members to ensure we get well-rounded feedback, so whilst we won’t be able to follow up with everyone who registers, we do truly appreciate all interest shown. After registration, if you’ve been selected a Discovery researcher will be in touch with you to confirm your participation.

I was put off by the very first box showing my real Gmail email address. It’s an address I’ve not used with CAMC. Then I realised the survey is a Google form. This is a data gathering exercise as you suggest, Brue, but I doubt the data will only be seen and used by the club.
Sorry, I'm out.

Call me a cynic, but having watched quasi public sector organisations waste shed loads of money over the years on flash consultants who borrow your watch to tell you the time, it all sounds very familiar. It’s the kind of thing teams do just before they get reorganised out of existence or implode. If you want a masterclass in ultra trendy, impenetrable management speak (what the heck is semiotics?) check out their website Discovery Research I’d prefer something simple that doesn’t involve “multiple touch points” and “facial coding” and didn’t waste money that could be better used for cheaper site fees. The cost of this will be eye watering.
I’m out too (probably out of the Club!)

A bit short notice, so in all probability only members reading CT will see it, I haven't seen anything on FB so it will hardly be a cross section of members! I would have thought post on here highlighting members requirements would be sufficient enough to give the Club food for thought.

Rowena, I think your overseas sites booking department knows very well which sites sell well and what facilities and activities they provide. If members have been booking those sites for many years that is a good guide to what they want. A fact finding tour of inspection to those best selling overseas sites by your UK sites team might save them trying to reinvent the wheel.

Well, I don't qualify. I wonder whether they might get a more creative idea by asking those who avoided CAMC sites and why.

I could suggest a research question…….
”How happy are you for the Club to spend a very large sum of Members money on employing external Research Companies, and paying out to selected participants?”
a. Perfectly happy, 🥳I don’t care what the Club does with my money
b. Somewhat unhappy, 🤔as the Club has/is recruiting in-house Marketing employees who surely have the qualifications and capabilities to carry out Market Research as part of their remit
c. Not happy,☹️ as the Club has a history of spending large amounts of money on projects that the Membership doesn’t prioritise, and who would prefer more income to go on the Club Sites themselves
d. Seriously enraged🤬 to the point of thinking my money just might be better spent on other options.
(I have included semiotic symbols so that everyone can understand the choices😉)
That’s a 👎from me.

Somewhere between ☹️ and 🤬 I think.
Remember, these amateur member researchers will be given a monetary reward - that's our money - as well as the research company being paid.
My other objection is of the sharing of personal information both with the researchers and Google. It's not fear, as someone said and which made me laugh, but a sensible precaution to only share with those who have a need to know.
The more I write, the closer I move to 🤬

🤬 from me. But I'm not a member. Worked for local government who were fond of such 'research'. Waste of the highest order, cost of 'research', 'streamlining, making folks redundant, then a few months down the line realising research was flawed.......
So glad I'm not a member these days. I'd only rejoin if a CL or site was near where I wanted to be without alternatives.

I agree with you in many ways, B2.
I also think the info we've been given about the research is rather vague. Is it about improving facility blocks (unlikely), providing games facilities, branching out into more and better quality self catering accommodation (that one would get a 👍 from me as C&CC are streets ahead in that department), providing entertainment etc etc? I can think of no better and cost effective way of carrying out research on specific points than by contacting members directly.
At least we're being open and honest about our views.

CAMC already extracts feedback from members when they've stayed on sites, this is done via communication preferences (which in my case and maybe others hasn't been working for a long time, although now restored.) The feedback is quite detailed and much can be deducted from it by competent in house analytics.
There is nothing mean spirited about our replies, neither is fear involved, those thoughts are your own. As members we are entitled to offer our thoughts on how club money is spent.

I suspect that what they are after is a better understanding of why some folks don’t use Club Sites, or become Members, rather than anything current Members might offer.
Not about numbers, outfits on pitches, how many times a Member might use a Club Site. They have all this information already. What the Club won’t be too sure about is the underpinning reasons, the emotions, beliefs, feelings, perceptions, conclusions as to why some folks use Club Sites and others don’t.
People use particular companies for lots of different reasons, personal to them, and if you understand the barriers that individuals sometimes erect that might or might not be real, but feel real to that individual, then you can do something, make changes that can draw in more reluctant consumers , and increase your market share.

They would want to draw out anything that might have you staying more on UK Club Sites AD. Only you fully understand why you make the choices that suit you, and keeps you going overseas rather than staying here. Some might be because of factors out of your control, some might be the emotional well being you get from spending more time in the sunshine, being able to view and explore different cultures. For others, the UK might hold interest because of the desire to understand and visit their past history, or it might be about access to cultural events. I suspect a lot of folks will be drawn to both UK and overseas touring if it’s possible.
But the Club has more basic stuff to find out, like being seen as attractive to younger Members, to younger family groups, to the huge untapped ethnic minority groups. All three of those might want something entirely different to what the Club currently offers, which it has to be said is where it’s future lies if it is to survive. It’s currently offering a fairly standard, very few surprises, but loved by the majority of Members Club Site network. Changing a few things, giving more choices might just attract a few more Members willing to go along for the ride, if they feel an empathy with what’s on offer.
It will be about the negative perceptions as much as the positive ones.

Our deepest regrets about the Club are all the loss of the little no facility Sites, and the Racecourse Sites going. No doubt some aspects beyond the Club’s control, but I do ponder at times on how hard they might have fought to keep them. They really were different, often in really good locations, and interestingly, they were often very well used by families. The Racecourses had tons of play space, good walks, wildlife of interest, etc….. Hexham is a case in point, absolutely thriving nowadays, it was buzzing last time we stayed first year of Pandemic.
I can’t help thinking that the Club have sleep walked into offering the same experience at almost every Club Site, right down to the tiles on the shower block walls, and those ghastly hair dryers, etc….. with only the off site surroundings giving a different vibe. I know the saying “you know what to expect” offers comfort to many, but a little bit of choice, difference, whilst maintaining quality expectations shouldn’t be too hard to achieve.

I, too, am a fan of non-facility sites, TDA, and they do indeed provide a different experience. They can be a haven of tranquility at busy times and the total opposite of AD's findings last year.
5 -
The tranquility is akin to camping Tinny👍🏻, there are not many who go to those places for noise & activity. It’s a joy to come back to after a full day out well away from the followers of all singing/all dancing(literally) sites, truly charging the Human battery👍🏻🤙🏻

Nail on head, Rocky. Choosing with care pays dividends👍🏻👍🏻

I was willing to do this until I saw that you have to use a Google account to do it.
I don't mind doing surveys, and often do, and I am quite happy to give my ordinary email address, which uses my own domain and is not generic, but I won't do it if it has to go through a Google account - more out of a sense of principle than fear. I hate that Google tracks everything I do online once I have had to sign in for any reason. I prefer to try (hard though it can be) to stay signed out of Google.
