Great to hear others views on the SA GPS comments.
I can see that some of her comments are fair in that we are much better placed re vaccination than SA is.
While they are indeed going into their summer so more time spent outdoors, I think we have to remember the living conditions of the average SA. Huge areas in the townships cramped together with little sanitation or running water.
I think we have to take precautions but also take notice of what SA are reporting.
What I do not want to see is shear panic which is what we seem to be getting just now.
There is no doubt it is more transmissible but as yet not more deadly.
If folk do what we have been doing all along and thats keep out of crowded spaces, use hand sanitising regularly along with hand washing and always wear a mask. Unfortunately there are lots more folk totally ignoring these recommendations, it appears that folk are getting fed up with all the changes and recommendations.
As always time will tell who is right and who is wrong.

"As always time will tell who is right and who is wrong."
Meanwhile, I'm all in favour of taking precautions rather than chances.👍🏻

Exactly that TW. Yes people are fed up but I'd sooner be fed up than ill. No great hardship in wearing a mask while in close proximity to others.
We had our prebooked boosters on Sunday morning, only around 20 in the queue, all went smoothly. On the way out there was a couple giving the volunteer staff proper grief about masks. Total respect to those and all volunteers, there's no need for that behaviour at all. I think volunteering wouldn't be for me in that situation

OH and I have been into town today, in the shops I only saw one without a mask, but in the shopping centre itself. many were not wearing masks
On the comment about abuse to volunteers
In the three times we have had jabs those waiting have all been very amiable to all concerned
I think it would be very rare for abuse of any sort being aimed at staff

Wouldn’t you agree that it’s a sensible path to exercise caution until full knowledge of the effects of Omicron are known, David? That’s what I was suggesting, not indefinitely locking oneself away from life. Caution now and life later👍🏻

+1, I was with my Wife getting her booster jab this am, 6 booths with the jabbers in, 3 greeters/detail checkers, 4 on the computers & 5 sorting the next to be jabbed/cleaning seats. Not a cross word but lots of gratitude & laughs. The same happened to me & family members too. Not a single report of any animosity👍🏻

I don’t think anyone enthusiastically wanted lockdown or wants another.
I was asking your opinion on the sensibility of being cautious until more is known of Omicron in view of your earlier comment but agree absolutely that it is up to each and every one of us to exercise whatever degree of caution we deem appropriate while also considering social responsibility. I just think now is the time to be cautious until more is known.

The wind might blow in the belching smoke from a traction engine as a Fred Dibnah(MBE) lookylikey trundled along the shopping precinct eh Muscles😂😂

Just been told that youngest daughter had her booster this afternoon at a walk-in centre in Bradford at about 4pm, a few minutes wait for the two of them.
Also to add yes, everyone in my view should take full precautions, prevention is far better than the cure, or worse.

Masks were made compulsory (again, after previous relaxation) on UK public transport on Nov 30. Coach trip was booked before then. Obviously latest rules will apply on travel date. Who knows what the rules will be by then, maybe only 2 persons per coach plus the driver ?

And making up our own minds what we need to do to be safe, without having to wait for further guidance from the government, be that the wearing of masks whenever we are in enclosed spaces, limiting our time in close proximity to others and not going to large gatherings etc.

Just to be clear, so am I, we will continue to do what we've been doing all along.
Just interested in how it will work out, milder but easy to catch or easy to catch and not as mild as the reports from SA quote.
Reading another report there is concern that it could be possible for a person to contract both the Delta and Omicron at the same time. This could lead to more mutations.

I looked at my covid pass yesterday (bored more than anything) and found it can be downloaded into Google Pay so that it's instantly available to view. Also you have the option of making an even faster method by having it on as an app all by itself.
Apologies if this has already been covered upthread but it might be useful to fellow posters who like me spend a lot of time in nightclubs

Thanks C, the App idea being one tap visual is a great idea. I’ll check it out👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yesterday I think Chris Whitty very eloquently dispelled speculation that Omicron doesn’t pose the same level of threat as Delta.

It looks as though China is affected so I would imagine products will be delayed etc. There were no test kits at our local pharmacy when OH called in this morning, but two "appeared" from under the counter! I presume if he went back again too soon the same miracle wouldn't happen...

Just read, but cant refind it- saying a third of Londoners have not had any jabs. Is this true? If so no chance of beating covid. How many of those will now be leaving over Xmas to infect the outlying bits of the UK> I only hope the figure was wrong.

More information here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-57874402 It doesn't altogether surprise me, because as they point out, the average age of the London population is 35 so they won't have been able to get some of the vaccination until recently. It also has quite a transient population plus many to whom English is a second language so communication could be difficult? Even in MK only 78% of the population has had a first does but in the older age groups the figure is much higher.

The population of London is nearly 9 million of that nearly 20 percent is made up of those born outside of the uk so I doubt many will be going anywhere over the Xmas period,
And with very many of the population is also very Young so would u til fecenty not been eligible for a covid vacine ,

Fully vaccinated or not you can still contract Covid 19. In your scenario those that are not vaccinated are more likely to feel ill and may be less inclined to travel. Those fully vaccinated but also infected may not even realise they are carriers and go on to innocently infect others.
