You may see why stringent measures are on the way but unfortunately, many anti vaxxers and many others don't, which is why the virus has spread so quickly and easily!

It’s sad that a decision not to bring in tighter restrictions will be based on a political one of survival for them rather than the survival of the folk the represent🤷🏻‍♂️

I do find it a bit ironic, that it’s those that won’t have the jab and being the most likely to get seriously ill and end up in an under resourced intensive care unit, are going to be the primary reason for future restrictions.

I won't defend the anti-vaxxers but they can't be held entirely responsible for the spread of Omicron.  Yes, they may well become the ones who are mostly hospitalised but so will many others who have had two or all three jabs.  The biggest spreaders are those that are asymptomatic, jabbed or not.

That's what my OH and I were discussing just yesterday (we're both ex-NHS).  It's frightening to think hospitals across the country could become so short staffed due to exactly what has happened to your family member, and the consequences of that.  As it is, ambulances are having to queue at times, to offload their patients, heaven knows how much worse it will get.  I too can see why more stringent measures should be taken, but will it happen?  I can't believe some of the MPs and their antics, on second thoughts, why should it surprise me?  As R2b said, they're more concerned with their own political agenda than anything else.

Well, it sure sounds as if we'll have more restrictions very soon and it's no bad thing in my view as the NHS needs to be protected. We may hear more later today….

The Hospital staff are facing longer hours as their colleagues are at home isolating. A spokesperson has pointed out that many are facing burn out both physically & mentally. If that’s the case I’ll accept a lockdown rather than the alternative.

Double whammy if you are un-vaccinated, have covid but are asympotomatic and not aware you are positive. Science says that the un-vaccinated are 20 pct more likely to pass the infection on than those that are vaccinated. yell

where we live it feels like we are in lock down already, pubs, restaurants etc doing very little trade, shopping centres very quiet, people generally staying indoors or avoiding close contact, just hope daughter makes it in from Spain on Thursday will worry about the rest as it happens or not as the case may be.

No sign of folk curtailing their Christmas shopping here.

As I've now had my day 2 PCR result back negative, I went food shopping this morning. Asda was not busy but then quite a few things missing from shelves, milk being just one of them.

    Home Bargains, was about normal.

Tesco was a mad house, car park very busy as was the shop but shelves fully stocked. Even B&Q was busy.

Back home and now have lots of cooking to do and freeze, veg to prep for freezing. Guess I'd better sort the freezer out first to make room.

No sympathy for the anti vaxers. The welfare of the majority trumps the individuals rights in these conditions. Make their life difficult would be the  best option. But then I am radical.

I watched a short video from Brian May this morning, on day 8 of having Covid (and still showing positive tests).  He said they had been to a party on a Saturday, they had done lateral flow tests before going - negative.   He and his wife (Anita Dobson) started feeling slight symptoms on Monday tested again still negative.  On the Tuesday he heard that a few people had tested positive since the party so they tested again - positive!  He said that means from the Sunday to Tuesday they had been out thinking all was well but they had probably been unwittingly passing something on.   Not surprising numbers are so high if it takes 3 days to show positive on the testing kit!

Problem seems to be coming from some members of Government who think things should be left as they are for now.   How ridiculous are they!  Of course we can understand about the hospitality industry, and ‘its Christmas’ arguments etc, but what about the NHS!?  It makes me so mad they can’t see a sensible way forward.

I think its always taken about 3 days from contact to testing positive, which is why the day 2 test when returning to the UK is a waste of time.

Some folk are doing the tests the minute they get off the plane. Having done an LFT to get onto the plane, the next test should be not before day 3. If you are all testing to get on a plane then why test when you get off.

We did our test on day 1 which was 3 days after we had done an LFT, we have  done a daily test since coming back. I got my test back negative but OHs seems to have gone walk about.

Money/profits before health & wellbeing🤷🏻‍♂️, I’ll never understand it. The very Govt who promised a decent pay rise then changed their mind are asking the medics to suck it up & carry on😤

Read it all now.The vegans wont get jabbed because they have tested the vaccines on animals. Not much use testing it on a lettuce!! The professional footballers because it may affect their virility. Dont these people have a wider morality

Good to read about the mass rapid testing done in Liverpool which showed a way forward without further restrictions if the Government get behind it. Need a huge effort and maybe targeted at a certain demographic but as I'm not getting paid any consultancy fee they'll have to work it out themselves.

Like it or not….vaccination development almost always involves animals initially and humans at a later stage of clinical trials. Nothing different about Covid other than animal and human trials proceeded simultaneously because of the urgency. The CV19 vaccination draws heavily on previous SARS vaccine development which were extensively tested on animals. Mice, rats, pigs, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits and monkeys are routinely used. I wonder what the reaction would be if dogs were used?

It is a legal requirement for any vaccine to be tested on animals before testing is allowed on any of the human population  volunteers or not

With covid vacines although running almost in parallel  because of the urgency and speed needed for a vaccine it was still tested on animals first,

Dogs are used🤷🏻‍♂️. Nothing was mentioned re Animals that I read/watched-not that it doesn’t happen I guess. The idea of a Vaccine was-‘everyone can be vaccinated’ some folk have ethics that won’t allow them to accept anything where an Animal has been used which kinda goes against the ‘everyone can be vaccinated’ ethos.

But remember that being vaccinated does not totally stop that person catching Covid or passing it on to you. I know of five personal friends/family who have been vaccinated and still caught it.

So whatever people do or do not get vaccinated according to their legally held views and/or their morality (difficult as that may be for us to understand) it is up to 'us' to still protect ourselves as much as possible. I'm treating anyone as a possible source of covid to me.

The statistics is showing that its the unvaccinated that are filling the hospitals, putting the NHS under extreme pressure. They have a duty to the wider public to get vaccinated and if they refuse then there should be consequences. Something like 80% of admissions in London are unvaccinated. Says it all.
