Lucky enough not on any pitches I've been on in the 40 yrs I've been caravaning and I would still avoid pitching next to the ccep

Which could equally apply if pitch surface choice was not an option. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you not been on sites that at busy times have to have regular  cess pit honey wagons in to empty them , the whole area down wind gets the "smell"smile

So you have also not been on a CL or site near, to a farm that has animalscool

the only time we have had any smell?  from a ccep is on the very rare  occasions some one who  does not use any form of add fluids In their cassette m and then it is only as you would be in your own toilet with an upset tummywink

At these sites that you mentioned, what was the level of occupancy when you arrived?

I'm a country boy who has plenty of first hand experience of farms and smells but I still wouldn't be happy to land on a pitch where 2-3mtrs away a regular troop of people empty their bodily fluids and turds into the pit while I'm sitting there having my breakfast or evening meal, some may not mind but not me no thanks.

     Evening

Specific pitch number choice won't be an option DK only the surface type.

Ah, the smell of the countrysideyell

We had a member this summer wanted to be as close to a service point as possible because of a bad back and lugging water rolls etc, then constantly moaned about the amount of people using that service point and the associated smellswink

As TW says above you can please some of the people some of the time

Our New Year commercial site at Henley has such a system, it's adjacent to Four Oaks, which hasn't😉

....we know where we want to be and have booked a serviced pitch alongside our pals...it's not that difficult.

Weve booked a mixed surface site at Black Knowl for June...if the new system is in and everyone has booked HS, well obviously be left with the grass.

Shouldnt be a problem in June but this shows what might happen during the crossover....

The emptying of toilets, whether with chemicals or without, will produce microscopic droplets as well as the bigger splashes which are left behind by some users.  The likelyhood of breathing in such droplets and becoming unwell as a result is probably quite low but I personally choose to reduce it further by being a greater distance away.

Excrement has a smell to warn one it is there and encourage keeping away from it.  So I would always try to book a pitch well away from a sewage point.

Teesdale Barnard Castle, pitch 21, it is well screened these days according to Google Earth.

My nose may not be that sensitive these days, and I was a "country boy" back in the mists of time, but I can honestly say that I have never sensed an unpleasant whiff from a CAMC CDP in the last 20+ years.

Some CLs can be a different matter!

What would you then do it that was the only pitch left available when you arrived in site?

We have booked for Xmas and new year 2022/23 and I also know a  HS pitch will be available when we arrive on our booked arrival day cool

So apart from a certain pitch off peak when you use sites overseas it is not so different and if your pitch has  deteriorated  in the 12 months being off peak there will be ample satisfactory others to chose fromcool

Never say never.  we have to have something and somewhere to look forward to

It looks as if this Christmas and New Year trip  this year is in jeopardy as OH  may? get her next Nhs appointments, and we definitely do not want to change themfrown

The last consultants we saw thinks he has identified what may well be OHs problem after having a look at some MRI scans she had Two years ago, undecided  and says her problem, he thinks it is not curable but can be managed ,but needs the expertise of the Neurology  department experts surprised

I would express my discontent and enquire if there was an alternative coming free within the next 2 days we could change to (we go for a min of 2 weeks now) if not I would refuse the pitch ask for a refund and move on, I'm sorry but I refuse to spend a fortnights holiday next to a toilet waste dump, there should not be pitches in that close a proximity. it's just a monetary reason not a customer care reason but as long as some accept it then it will not change.

Hi Arch, many years ago I found that family owned, family run sites operated in a different way- make the move.

Glad to hear it. I didn't imagine they would anyway! There is a world of difference between an individual site and a network of nearly 200 sites. I once tried to book an independent site for four days, the final two being at the weekend. I requested a hardstanding pitch. The reply came back that I could have a hardstanding for two days but would have to move for the final two days as that pitch was booked for the weekend. I did not proceed under those circumstances.

Agreed, my OH won't pitch anywhere near the CCEP or, pretty much, the toilet block either...leave that to others.

we're more than happy to stroll to 'the block' or use our own shower during precipitation.

David, I don't get what your 'situation' has got to do with 'an independent site' or 'a network of nearly 200 sites'...

surely, each site's booking situation is unique to that site and unrelated to the others?
