Tesco were advising shoppers to buy local produced food ? to save the enviroment and transport journies.      chicken was in our local stores from Essex , what they failed to also say was that it had been processed in Scotlandsurprised

I think the "was" in front of the pay rate could be a clue?. ,what has happened since to attract drivers  with their unsocial hours and timed and tracked journies, still seem to show the difference in "some parts of construction"wink

HGV Driver I was chatting to the other day while he was unloading his wagon must have been telling me  pack of lies. £11.60 per hour was his wage, so he said.

I’m afraid lots of clues are needed when reading your posts, JV😕

My point is that at £50k plus bonuses, your quoted £11.20 p/h is way off the mark.

We may find out soon as I have just  sent a text to my daughter what her company pay ,  ,rather than what the media would like us believe it is  though the same  in all industries even this club , with some site managers pay grades

My Daughter has just replied they pay

    Class 1. £18per hour

    Class 2 £15 per hour

,van drivers up to 3.5 tonne £11.00 per hour

And they have vacancies  for all types as they have so much business and are in the market for more vehicle

A month ago I looked at jobs offered for HGV drivers. Pay rates were poor. Some of he better rates were circa £14 an hour.

I’m not really interested, JV. I was simply putting the info I had to hand on the table. What you do with it and what you believe is up to you.

I think we were talking about buying from UK producers.  If it was truly local some might have to live on greens and some on chickens. wink

I remember going into a new shop that had opened in town about a year ago, The Food Warehouse, part of the Iceland Group.

It's mostly frozen food. I looked at some advertised freshly caught Mackerels that came from Scotland and then frozen. The package stated that the Mackerel was frozen in China and then shipped back to the UK for retail. Absolute madness but financially viable for the retailer to do this. We left them there.

We used to have a great reputation and skill in freezing fish caught in North Sea Waters but that skill set has been lost as Herring numbers depleted and cheaper imports muscled in.

We can grow tea, but not in vast quantities, try the Tregothnan Estate I Cornwall.

I've got a camellia tea plant, six inches tall, so not much to go on. wink

Marketing departments ? When a product is advertised as from local producers, Essex, then the marketing dept  "forget to add that  the chicken had been via Scotland to be processed " before being sold as Local?undecided

‘News that’s fake’. . .It don’t need to come from anywhere particularly in the World it’s blatantly & universally obvious what it means👍🏻. Some folk regularly post things that are obviously fake news-no mistakes at all just insidious & malicious to add false plausibility. Happy to help🙂

I think that is where you and I, have a major problem with some posters   Who try to rubbish posts for what end is in their narrow minds?

If it does not fit in ,with whatever they seem to be hoping fits their very blinkered agenda

.It seems to be a trait with some posters "who like" the poorly informed poster

As as said the" happy to help post s" are normally more of a hindrance to what is correct

Labels dnt tell you everything. Millions of eggs produced in Wales. Not one packing factory. Our local producers send them to Norfolk -, They then come back to local Tesco and Co op stores. Madness or what?

Sorry I should have said "grow in sufficient quantities so as not to have to import any", as that is what I thought Fisherman meant. What about essential like spices, bananas, coconuts, which all go into the foodstuff on our shop shelves, even if we could produce the end products, which we can't at the moment.
