How's your footy team doing?

Well Town got their first pre- season friendly out of the way yesterday. A 1-0 win over the Sulphites aka Harrogate Town.
I only mentioned their nickname because someone had clearly told the commentator this at half time, he must have woven it into his commentary umpteen times in the second half.
I watched the match on Town’s YouTube channel. For a one camera coverage it was ok, although if they’re going to do this again they could do with getting the camera a bit higher. It’s ages since I watched a match from touch line level, it just shows how you get spoiled watching from high up in the stand

Here’s the thing. Last season Town were awarded four penalties all season and they contrived to miss all four without troubling the keeper, two hit the woodwork and two missed completely.
Yesterday at the Wendy House they put away all four that they were required to take, couple that with our new keeper saving two of the four he faced and Town win on penalties at Hillsborough again😀

That’s not a tonking, a tonking is what I unfortunately witnessed yesterday.
we waited 524 days for what, our ritual drubbing by the Cottagers. Fulham have recently become our bogie team, and it’s usually a very big bogie. My GS and I were initially in rapture when Town scored first, only for the goal to be chalked of for a dubious offside. I suppose that we were fortunate that we only saw three of their goals, we were getting drinks when their second went in and on our way home when they scored the fifth
Its the thugs from Deepdale at home on Tuesday and luckily we’ll be away in our van,

Throwing tennis balls and flares onto the pitch was something you don't see very often as the Latics beat Stanley on penalties. Obviously Stanley are concentrating on league matters, whilst t'others worry about their owners.
Aside Interesting watching the Canaries this week - shipping five, then scoring six in consecutive games.

And that was the match I missed. Talk about Sod’s law. Too busy painting my new summer house.
we went to the match agin the Toffees int’ league cup on Tuesday and although we lost, came away relatively happy because they played well. I said to the GS if they play like this on Saturday they could beat Reading.
Football is a crazy game, a fortnight ago we were third from bottom, today we’re third from top! Plus we’ve got a positive goal difference, we haven’t had one of those for ages.

Busy watching the Diamond League Athletics this afternoon fortunately and only discovered the footy results when that had finished.
Discovered the real reason that I live in Crewe ~~ It's because C comes before D so we are not at very bottom of the First Division. Well so far any way !

An entirely foreseeable result at the JSS on Saturday. Town the “in form team” Forest without a win and no clean sheet. Result.? Town 0 Forest 2
Town have lots of previous in this regard, I remember many many years ago Hartlepool played Town ,I believe at Leeds Road. Town were unbeaten at home and Hartlepool hadn’t won away in a year or more. Yes you’ve guessed.
I had looked forward to the match all week only to be left deflated. I had the GS with me and it being his birthday that weekend had bought him a replica shirt complete with his favourite player’s name and number on the back. We were due to collect said shirt from the club shop after the match. He was so disappointed with the performance that he wasn’t sure he wanted the shirt. He’s becoming a fair weather supporter!

I certainly would not back (I'm struggling to type their name) Bl******* Rovers for historical reasons. When Accy were in dire straits a dozen or so years ago and needed to raise funds to pay an HMRC debt, the aforementioned were not interested in playing a "friendly" to raise funds. Thankfully, Burnley stepped in to help.
I'm so glad the Terriers did the business....and any team who inflict defeat on the Blues and Whites (the first team to 'buy' the Premiership)
