Could this be the light at the end of the tunnel?

Now why would you say that, I wonder? I certainly wouldn't like another lockdown, but can see that it could very well occur with the number of cases going the direction they are at the present.

Very little chance of that. It’s different this time around. Vaccines have weakened the link between infection and serious illness. The only game changer would be a new variant resistant to Covid antibodies.

Likewise! Similarly the Gov email received yesterday stating that the FCDO no longer advises against all but essential travel to France. Effectively putting France on the green list??
Very much hoping for an update from the club on travel to France.

Also watching.
Its my understanding that once the Gov. lift the 'all but essential travel' then insurance is once again back to full cover or the new equivalent of full cover.
We usually use our breakdown and holiday insurance, which we get through our bank account. I'll need to check that out to see what has changed since I last looked.

the silence from insurance companies is deafening. They were pretty good at sending emails telling me I was not covered and what the new rules after Brexit were! Perhaps give it time to sink in? Fortunately I am in no hurry to cross the water and unlikely to do so this year.

There's always a "but what if" in such circumstances. Nothing is set in stone as of yet about the abandonment for the need to quarantine on return.

yup!!! and look what France our now advising
"
France warned its nationals Thursday against travelling to Spain or Portugal on holiday because of a spike in Covid-19 cases caused by the highly contagious Delta variant.
France currently allows people to travel to all other EU members as long as they are fully vaccinated or present a negative PCR or antigen test on their return. But Europe Minister Clement Beaune pointedly advised the French against crossing the Pyrenees mountains to Spain or Portugal"

agreed, and like you I have plans to cross the great divide, but it is worth keeping abreast of the situation as "advice" does seem to turn into regulation or prohibition quite quickly and Mr M blockaded the channel ports shortly before xmas, at very short notice, note .....
"President Macron and ministers are to hold a “health meeting” about Covid on Monday, July 12. Any subsequent decisions are expected to be revealed to the public on Tuesday, July 13."

But if you are going by ferry to Spain you don’t need a test at all before you go provided you have had two vaccinations.
And you don’t need a PCR test if you are going to France - just an antigen test, and they can be had elsewhere for £29.

Prices have thankfully come down since we travelled to Portugal in late May (on the “green list”, at the time).
We needed a PCR test to enter Portugal, another to return home and a Day2 test. Total cost for the 3 tests was £250 each 😱.
My sister had a PCR test in Lisbon for €17.
Some profiteering was certainly talking place here in the UK.Hope you manage to get away, David, and have a great time. 🙂

where are you getting that information from?
it appears from what I have read up to 11/7/21 that you do need a PCR test for France!

Information is from official UK government website .

The official Government website states that you must have at least 6 months left on your passport if travelling to EU countries.
This is erroneous. The EU state that you must have 3 months left from the date of your leaving the EU. So if you only intend visiting for a fortnight and have 4 months left on your passport the UK gov website is advising that you cannot travel.
I think the UK government is assuming that you may wish to stay for 90 days so is using that as its basis and then adding the 3 months onto it.
I have heard of people being refused boarding rights because of this.

You don't need a PCR test - an antigen test, providing it's paid for and gives you a 'Fit to Travel' certificate is all that is needed. We came into France with antigen tests on the 13th June.
See here: (Travelling from an Amber Country)
French Government Travel Requirements June 2021
And there is no problem travelling between France and Spain - no testing, no border in fact, we did it yesterday for a day trip!1 -
Tests are very much cheaper now, from places like DAM Health - where they cost £50 for a PCR test and £29 for an antigen test. Both give you a Fit to Travel certificate.
Only a single test is now required on Day 2 after arrival back in the UK for the dual vaccinated.0 -
Maybe true today and I hope it continues, but more and more EU countries now putting Spain on their red list and this is the Fench position
"In France, the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, has advised French holidaymakers to “avoid Spain and Portugal as a destination” warning that France could impose stricter entry restrictions to those returning from both countries."

Dont think these will stop me driving thru France, what concerns me more is the fact that the UK is relaxing travel rules to countries such as Spain when others are adding Spain to either the amber/red list, and if we were to do the same at some time in the near future and the FCO advise against travel, how do we stand on travel insurance?, this seems to be a bit of an unknown just now
40c+ in Murcia region yesterday and temps not dropping below 30c during the silent hours

Unless its changed recently the last time I checked out my insurance it was all about if the FCDO was saying all but essential travel.
If you left the UK and everything was OK, then you are covered even IF when you are away it changes.
However if you go against FCDO advice and travel when they say essential travel only then parts of the insurance would not cover you.
That was my understanding.

That depends which insurance company you are dealing with.
