Could this be the light at the end of the tunnel?

Hi David,Fingers crossed for those who want, and are able, to get their outfit abroad this year.
Sadly thar won’t include us as we took, what turned out to be the sensible precaution, of booking on a two week rally here and then a near four week tour in UK to visit family and friends.
As two nights are in Darwen we will likely have more variant concerns than crossing the channel!

Ah! The Darwen variant, otherwise known as Epsilon. Particularly transmittable to those that live west of the Tamar.
No travel for us for the next four or five week as I'm re-joining the my local vax centre to help with the big push to get the whole adult population vaccinated a.s.a.p.

In my view Macron and his cronies are following a "tit for tat policy" as far as the Brits are concerned - revenge for leaving the EU I hear someone say!?
If Boris does allow people to enter UK who have had the double jab and then do have to quarantine - then I would expect that most EU countries would follow suit. We all know the Brits do like to holiday abroad and EU countries such as France and Spain (especially) do want our tourist dollar.
No doubt dialogue at Governmental level tween France, Spain etc and UK is on going.
Whether one travels is of course a personal choice but it would be nice to be able to have that choice!
We shall see what develops.........

I've found with this current situation that many times the light at the end of the tunnel has often been the light of the train coming the other way.

Italy have now decided you have to quarantine for 5 days if coming from the UK so per haps the light at the end of the tunnel was just teh train getting closer

Hi David, W are on site at the moment so not looking at CT as much as usual but did see this, story about BF offering “inclusive ferry sites on a long stay basis, on another forum;
https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/holidays/winter-sun-camping
May be of interest especially to these who are thinking of going later, in the hope that they can!

We have a particular interest in what is happening in Norway (a trip originally booked in 2019) and today their government has announced anyone travelling from the UK has to be ‘double-jabbed’ and spend 10 days in quarantine, reducing to 5 days on production of a negative test on entry. They are however, going to review this on June 30th, so as David says, there’s possibly light at the end of the tunnel. Judging by the crowds at some of the current Euros competition, it does seem like we’re being penalised for leaving the EU!!

That sounds like a good offer AD.
Can't take advantage of it though as we have a tunnel booking carried over from last year, that's if we are allowed to go, will have to be used.
Hoping by September things will look more favourable for us to get away. Can only go for 8 weeks as we have 3 weeks in Lanzarote end Nov beginning Dec, also carried over from earlier this year.
Fingers and everything else crossed 😂😂😂

France is 'letting us in' from 9th June onwards - or at least those of us who are dual vaccinated. We can travel with a vaccination certificate, and a 'Fit to Fly' certificate following either a PCR test with 72 hours of departure, or an antigen test within 48 hours of departure. No requirement to quarantine on arrival, no test on arrival, and no 'compelling reason for travel' is required.
See here: Strategy for reopening of the borders from 9th June - France
Let's hope the UK does the same and lets us back in without quarantining and with less testing.1 -
Perhaps worth taking a look at the BF website covid info for those that have bookings. Some sailings have been totally withdrawn, others altered. We had one at the beginning of September on the Bretagne, this has now been replaced with the Armorique. Interesting as it has no club class cabins which BF will be taking the money for in a couple of weeks. Not been contacted by them yet, but the information was only posted on the 17th.

Does the UK Gov. actually have any mechanism to prevent us from "leaving"?
0 -
Don't know Cyber but they could ask at UK Border why you are going to France. And there is of course the question of insurance if travelling against Gov't advice. Also, there is the question of personal and social responsibility in one's approach to Covid. Has anyone on here travelled by ferry to France recently?

There are no questions at the border.
France is open if you have proof you are fully vaccinated, and have an antigen test within 48 hours of travelling. Insurance is available from companies such as Staysure, Avanti and others.
Spain is open too -when the ferry service from Plymouth to Santander resumed earlier this month there were 800 passenger and 400 vehicles on board the very first sailing.
Requirement on return to England will depend on whatever regulations the UK government has in place at the time.
