I’m struggling a bit with the logic of these event testing trials. Not the fact that they are doing them but the parameters. As I understand it folk attending must have a recent negative test. They are then being tested at periods after the event to see if it has resulted in a spike in cases. From what I have read none has so far been detected. Since they all tested negative before being let in, this comes as no great surprise. Surely a more certain way would be to just let those selected in without tests, or just a simple temperature check. The results after could then be compared against the general population or a similar demographic group who had not attended. Unless the plan is  to test everyone before all large events for the foreseeable future the results don’t seem valid for what will happen as we move back to near normal.

I think its an experiment to see what happens. The group involved are young so hopefully wouldn't succumb to serious illness if they got COVID. I see what they are doing as a control measure. They confirm (by testing) that no one has it before they arrive and then test after the event. If, as they probably hope, no one tests positive for COVID they can evaluate the likely risk at such events with people in very close contact. If the risk proves to be minimal or even non existent it would pave the way for other events where people are in such close contact. That is the way I look at it?

If they are all negative before the event wouldn’t it mean, if they later tested positive, it was more likely they picked it up afterwards on the bus / train or at the pub.

I think it a question of degree. No idea how many attend such events but lets say 500. If they are all negative before the event and two test positive after the event it would seem to me that the event was not the cause. However if 50 tested positive it might indicate that something at the event caused the spread? We also don't know the instructions as conditions of attending. If after the event everyone reverted back to normal precautions the risk would be no more than it currently is. As I say I think they are trying to test how big events might work and the degree of risks. Going to a Nightclub is not on my list of prioritieswink

Is that different to the Test and Trace App?

    Had my second jab today.

The first produced an extremely painful reaction affecting my kidneys but only lasted a short time, 15 minutes or so, and then I was fine for the rest of the day (early morning jab). So I was interested to see how the second affected me. Happy to report I've had no reaction up to now including not a peep out of my kidneys (or arm). I've read that the second jab has less side effects and from talking to those that have had it it seems to be true.

I took a couple of paracetamol a couple of hours before and a couple more about 4 hours after.  Had absolutely no side effects at all this time.  Don't know if taking paracetamol had anything to do with it (probably  not) - I'll never know for sure... 🙂

Snap! I had my second one today too. Good news you didn't have the reaction you had first time. Up to now, I can feel my arm is slightly sore when I lift or stretch it, but far from a significant ache.

I was wrong when I said that DIL had a vaccination appointment.  We met up  with them at DD's house on Saturday and she was saying she still had no date.  She turned 48 last Friday.  Rather worrying, especially as she is a teacher, in contact with multiple pchildren and other staff on a daily basis.

SIL was saying he has 2 children in one of his classes, 16 year olds, who have tested positive.  He is having twice weekly tests and so far is fine.  He is only 36, so has a while to wait yet for his vaccinations.

According to the imperial college biologist who is one of our local dog walkers with her  Lab puppy ,you would be in more danger and bad side effects when taking paracetamol. than any that is almost nil with any of the covid jabsundecided

To be honest, for me the second jab was only slightly better than the first, taking a few days to build up a few side effects so I've been glad to take paracetamol to take the edge off things.

It would be a lot more straightforward if there was a single track and trace App for the UK. Downloaded the one for Scotland, which stopped the one for England working,☹️ then found I didn’t need it anyway as the English one works in Scotland and vice versa. The Scottish one doesn’t have the log into venue in any case, that’s a separate App, which I’ve now downloaded. Having Deleted User the Scottish T&T, I’ve managed to get my English one running again. Not sure the Scottish log in to venue will work at several of the sites we will be visiting, unlike the English version it doesn’t store the info on the phone but communicates it, which needs a 3/4G signal.

I see showers will be open again on English club sites from the 17th.

Based on the latest Government advice issued on 10 May, our shower facilities will reopen in line with guidance from Mon 17 May.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but has DIL tried the NHS booking site rather than waiting for an appt.?  I used that, it was faster than the GP.

Things might be very different in Scotland or even other parts of England and Wales?

Our son, 32 and DIL same age, got text from their GP offering Pfizer vaccine. He had his on Thursday, she's booked hers for Sunday - incase one has a reaction as they have a 6 week old baby! She researched fully and is going ahead.

    I'm delighted for them.

I was given 2 boxes of flo tests when incollected last month's prescription. And OH has had 2 boxes of them through the post, classed as extremely vunerable. Can't say they're pleasant to use but so far so good.

We had our 2nd Pfizer jabs on Wednesday. Our only side effects has  been a sore arm to both of us appearing some 10 hrs after the jab. My wife's soreness only lasted some 36 hrs but mine is dragging on longer. Minimal discomfort.

In Scotland, at the moment at least, you wait to be sent your appointment, you cannot book yourself in.

Whether this will change when they get down to the over 30s, has not been stated.

I believe, if you think you have been missed out, you can ring up and if that is the case you will be given an appointment over the phone.

Booking a test can be done online and appointments are easily available with results often coming through within 24 hours or less.

DD who is 35, has also decided to take the vaccination, having similarly researched.   Looks like it will be well into June or even July before she will be given an appointment.

Just heard from our son that DIL (48) now has an appointment for 31st May.

Just seen some "good" news for Wales.

It's been reported that there has been only 1 Death during the past week from Covid. Terrible for those involved, that's why the Inverted commas on good above, but a real improvement for the population in general.

Interesting comment from Matt Hancock on Sunday , that those with Indian variant now in hospital were of the ages that are able to have the covid vacineundecided

Not just age related JV, it’s about other factors as well, not least ethnicity and poverty. It’s no good booking a Covid jab if the location is miles away, and you are reliant upon public transport. It then becomes an expense in terms of not only money but time as well, and if you factor in possibly needing child care, time off work etc..... High case areas such as Bolton, they have taken jabbing into the local communities, rather than expecting people to sort things out for themselves miles away. If you are poor, you might not have internet, access to transport, access to childcare. They are trying to overcome lots of other factors preventing vaccine take up. Fingers crossed it all works out ok.🤞

Sorry but that argument is wearing a bit thin in the areas so posted ,as big efforts have been made to make sure those entitled to have the vaccine ,do if they want it

Andy Burnham has also quantified that

Just sorted out a 4 week tour of the UK ( the wee ginger lassie can keep the border closed as I won't need to cross it) but it now seems that the Indian strain of the virus might put paid to that. Blast!

Oh well, travel in hope that wherever we go will be safe.
