We went to a wedding as we were in the "top thirty" to be invited and all the venue staff were wearing masks and all areas we used were socially distant laid out, very covid secure as far as was possible,,
We had our caravan at the venue for overnight accomodation

Wow, what a fun wedding…not.

I don’t really have a problem with it. Social distancing has to be maintained, only as many as the venue can accommodate covid compliant. Plus no dancing. There probably will not be anymore hugging than at the Euro matches and fan zones and they have been allowed for some reason. It was clearly ridiculous that you could have more than 30 seated in a pub (until someone scored) watching football, but only 30 if the same pub was used as a wedding reception.

When my friend's son married during the stricter wedding lockdown rules with no reception the music was played for their "first"dance and they danced on their own just before they left the church. Surrounded by just a few family members it was a just as special as the big event they had originally planned and abandoned four times.
I hope any weddings planned are just as memorable.
However thousands of emotional sports spectators versus small weddings doesn't make a lot of sense just now.

Needs must, and it was a great wedding very well organised; against the problems that are affecting the world right now with it seems no end in sight
But then as many are finding out in these times it is still possible to enjoy what is allowed

JV, that’s great until into the mix is the ‘I don’t believe in the virus’ followed by the ‘I’m too young to suffer’ folk who then pass it on infinitum.
AD, that too is great until you get a bunch of drunks in a room who have had 1 or none of the jabs.
this is just stupid, why do you think some countries are almost without Covid & others are entering the 3rd or 4th wave. It’s discipline, & Governmental intelligence without it people are not seeing tomorrow. I saw the sickening vision of the spokesperson for the holiday industry bemoaning his members losing their livelihoods-really, if only it was just livelihoods that were lost for the 128,000 UK citizens who are no longer with us.

I do feel sorry for some of the people who have not been able to have the wedding celebration they originally planned, but listening to some of them it seems the 'getting married' part is less important than the 'big party' part.

Yes, Rocky, when it comes to business/jobs versus lives it's a no brainer.
Meanwhile, in Cornwall, in the week leading up to the G7 when huge numbers of people arrived to get the preparations under way, our covid infection rate rose to above the average for England. 😤

So are you saying live it up and to hell with spreading the virus?
See my post about Cornwall as it demonstrates what can happen when crowds of people mix. The whole G7 event is a classic example of how to spread the virus.☹

Rocky, you are one of the few who care about others. You will never have that on your conscience 👍

This is understandably a very sensitive topic of discussion. I would appreciate it if although having differing opinions if everyone can remain polite and keep the discussion friendly.

Some businesses in the St Ives area have had to close due to Covid. The owners are far from happy.

from what I recall from interviews during the summit some were saying their takings were significantly down and some said it wasn't worth opening.

I'm sure in the medium to long term, holding the G7 summit in Cornwall will attract many tourists both from the UK and abroad.
Back on topic, i for one have no problem with the extra time added before all restrictions are lifted. As discussed by politicians and scientist on the TV and Radio, if nothing else it will give the opportunity for millions more people to have the first or second dose of the vaccine.
2 -
I'm sure that will comfort them.

Adding another four weeks will not affect me in any way, but I do realise that it was necessary and prudent and good for people who have not been vaccination yet and of course those coming up to their second dose.

Actually, they were given no notice of arrangements, naturally.
However, that is OT.

JV, do you have any concept of how on a knife edge the Cornish economy is in a normal year, let alone during a pandemic, with service and hospitality provision way down? A huge percentage of the working population down there exist on either a six month year, or have at least two, sometimes three or four different jobs they juggle merely to exist?
I am still at a loss as to what the whole G7 circus achieved to be honest, beyond a huge income boost to a tiny select number, and a vast amount of inconvenience to many more.🤷♀️ PM had a nice swim, Americans might just be a bit more aware of that strange boot shaped bit of land on toe end of England, but to be honest Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson probably achieved more in way of publicity. I would hazard a guess St Ives was chosen because it’s relatively easy to stick behind a huge fence, and Boris didn’t dare tackle Sturgeon about using anywhere they usually go in Scotland, like Gleneagles.🤷♀️
