    This is the one I want to visit when things open up, they have done well with their awards and I'm drawn to the cafe too! wink It's the Langham estate in Dorset HERE so not far from us, we're even nearer to the Furleigh estate so another one to consider if you're down this way.

    This is our choice of standard glugging. Good stuff and as you say better than the Blended stuff, which I unfortunately picked up in haste last time I was in Aldi.

    Used to be found below £5 but not any more.

    Just as an aside for those coming into Wales and buying alcohol here, or even those living here and unaware of the conditions, then a note of caution. MiL bought 6 bottles of her favourite sweet wine today after seeing a banner outside advertising 25% off 6. However this only applies if the wine costs more than £7 per bottle. When she queried it she was told it's Welsh Assembly rules that have set this barrier not Tesco.

    I did note  that my preferred supermarket beer was 50p more in Wales than this side of the border!! I believe the tactic is to increase price in an effort to reduce consumption.

    Sainsburys have their "buy 6 (or more) get 25% off" offer again, started today.

    By combining it with Nectar points I've just stocked up on a dozen bottles of our favourites ..... for £1.12.

    Well, it would have been rude not to, wouldn't it? wink

    Just been to have a look.  If I buy 6 bottles of Barefoot Merlot, it will cost me £4.34 a bottle.   That's a good price..... miggtcpop in tomorrow...  Thsnks forcthe heads up Moulsey....

    David - if you haven't already been, keep a look out for Beyerskloof Pinotage. Very similar to a merlot but a bit fruitier. We discovered it when we were in South Africa last year. It's normally £8 a bottle, currently reduced to £6 so if you buy it as part of your 6 that works out at £4.50, almost half price! smile

    My wife likes white when it's daylight and red at all other times.

    If pushed she'll neck rose in lieu of either of the above.

    She doesn't really study the names.....

    I don't know about yacht ownership. An MOT, cam belt and service plus a hab and damp check has just set me back nearly £1300. That's without tax and insurance. My yacht used to be less than a grand for antifoul, mooring, insurance and everything. Did more of that myself. No way am I disembowelling an A Class to get at the engine. I'm getting too old for that malarkey.

    Always a merlot or chardonnay for us. After years of trying others we have settled on Harvey's. Or occasionally Oxford Landing. For me, white when socialising with friends, red with a meal and at home some evenings. The garage comes in handy for storage when the supermarket offers of buy 6 are on.

    Expecting another Laithwaites order next week.... a mixture of Merlot with three bottle of Prosecco.  Hope I've got enough room behind the door in the study.....  If not, I'll just have to make room... 😉😉

    Price matters with wine. The cost of the bottle, label, cork and tax takes |3-70 to 3-80 per bottle. This applies to whatever wine at whatever cost. There is only plonk in the under $5 bottles ie the supermarkets buy it at 80p per litre. The extra 1   or 2  pounds makes a big difference.

    I tend to agree Fisherman.  I can't think of anything under a fiver that I would happily buy again....

    I generally pay £7-8 for a 'general/ everyday' bottle of wine.  The Aldi prosecco - the one around £7.99 a bottle is generally good.  Then the Barefoot Merlot is around £6.75 a bottle at the moment.  The Aldi champagne at around £12.99 a bottle is really good value for a champagne, and not at all bad.

    It's nice to buy a more expensive bottle from time to time, but then some can be overpriced.

    We took a bottle of Waitrose English white wine away with us recently, £9.99 it was similar to a Sauvignon, nice drink. Next time we'll try a bottle of Bacchus from the Wraxall vineyard near Shepton Mallet, (not far from where we live) gradually working our way through UK products. So far all have been good. smile

    Ordered 6 bottles of Barefoot Merlot with some other bits and pieces, to pick up today from Sainsbury's Click and Collect. 25% off for purchasing 6 bottles, so needed to do it before the offer finishes tomorrow.

    Well, I've not seen it before today, but I have been given some letterbox wine to try.  It comes in a 'flat plastic bottle' and is designed to fit through a letterbox.  Haven't opened it yet.... not optimistic, but hope I'm proved wrong.

    Anyone else tried it?  Any feedback?  I'll let you know how it goes when I've got the courage to open it.....

    Come on David, pluck up the courage as I would like to hear your verdict!  I tried looking for reviews on the internet but couldn't find any, although other people may have more luck. It appears to be very expensive as apparently the bottles only contain the same amount as normal bottles.  I am definitely NOT a wine connoisseur and buy wine mostly from Aldi and Lidl, however, I would say avoid Tescos as even their "finest" wine is dire!

    Friday may be 'the night vbfg...so watch this space... 😃😃  It is a Shiraz and I am more of a Merlot person, do hope that doesn't colour my judgement....

    Hi David, I work for the company that makes these bottles! (more info at www.garconwines.com). Letterbox Wine is a small subset of what we do, but I'm amazed you got your hands on this Dadirri brand as it hasn't been produced since 2018. Would love to know where you got it from? 

    I'm afraid you'll be disappointed if you open this as the wine will most likely have oxidised. Our bottles are not suitable for bottle aging - they're made from 100% recycled PET, a lower carbon footprint material, but one which only has a moderate barrier to oxygen. We use a barrier technology to give a shelf-life of between 12-18 months, which is ideal for everyday drinking wines (by far the majority consumed across the world.) Usually most people who enjoy our bottles drink the wine within this timeframe. 

    More than happy to send you a new bottle (of a different wine) to replace it! If you want to take us up on this, our details are found on the website above. We're glad you see how beneficial they are for saving-space and enjoying in caravans laughing

    Hi Elly.  Thanks for that.  Great to read your post, the story and your link to the company.  I got the post box wine from my daughter-in-law.  I think she had them left over at work....  They look like 'sample bottles' to be honest as the label on the other side was very plain and non-descript.  

    I did open a bottle.  It wasn't  'amazing' but it was quite surprisingly drinkable.  I wasn't expecting much for an older 'freebee' in a PET bottle,  and talking of red wine, I'm not such a fan of Shiraz, generally preferring a Merlot.  I've got another couple to open, so I'll let you know what those are like.
