Just seen that the pair of Ospreys at Manton Bay, Rutland, Blue 33 and Maya, have arrived this lunchtime, at 12:29 and 12:56 respectively and had mated by 1:00!!!😯 They were 3 days later arriving than last year.

Dontcha just love honeymoons👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Four minutes after arriving. Obviously keen.

They have to get it done in short time to reclaim their nest, as a pair of Egypt Geese have been visiting while they were away "over there" and trying to stake a claim.😃

Egyptian geese are quite aggressive. We had a bolshie pair on a site we stayed on in Metz two years back.

As it happens there are also a pair of EGs trying to take over the osprey's nest at the Loch of the Lowes.

Brian, just a quick update. Osprey LM12 arrived back at the Loch of the Lowes next yesterday at 5pm, at the start of his 10th season there. It was the same date as he came back last year!!

Threaves Castle's male Osprey, Black 80, arrived yesterday, one day later than last year. His mate, Blue KC, is due to arrive tomorrow if she come the same day as last year.
Lots of sightings over the last couple of days of others flying through, including at Leighton Moss, and Wareham Channel

And you'll be able to dash off and see them arriving at their nest.

But only if the relevant First Ministers allow " Open Borders " again --
I just fancy a trip out to Morrisons in Fort Bill, and sitting on their car park eating a Cornish Pasty & looking up at Ben Nevis and remembering when I went up & down that before lunch, Then woke up to a cold cup of tea !!

More nests being occupied, Dylan arrived at Clywedog yesterday evening, 12 days earlier than last year, and MrsG returned to Glaslyn at 8:45 this morning, 4 days later than in 2020. At the Loch of the Lowes the pair are together again with the arrival of Blue NC0 this lunchtime.
Just need the Kielder, Dyfi, Llyn Brenig, Foulshaw, and the Loch Garten Ospreys to put in an appearance

And they keep on coming today.....2 have arrived local to us, the male White YW at Foulshaw Moss and the male White YC at Roudsea Wood, and Dyfi female Telyn, Blue 3J, 6 days earlier than last year.

Oops, another at Foulshaw, female Blue 35 has arrived too, so the pair are back together again.

Don't you find it amazing that they can turn up at the same place and as near as dammit the same date each year? Like lots of other bird species such as Swallows.
Obviously the recent settled weather has helped.
Here's hoping for a successful breeding season.

It is truly amazing that they are able to arrive back at the same nest, often year after year, at around the same time each year, and so often pair up with the same mate second previous years. So far this year there are 7 that have arrived earlier than expected, with one up to a week sooner, 4 that have arrived just the odd day later than forecast, and a couple on the exact day. There are also 3 that have not yet arrived, being later than expected, and a couple are due today if on time.
I've just received notification that Blue 69 flew in to Nest 4 at Keilder on the 25th. The first of the Esthwaite Water pair, the male Blue 7A, arrived at 7:52 this morning.

That's right, AnnB, the female Telyn, Blue 3J, was filmed on the nest yesterday a week earlier than last year's date.

Today's update. The Glaslyn brothers, Yellow 7 and White 37 have both arrived at their respective nests in Kielder.

There is an Osprey recorded at Shapwick every August bank holiday heading south. Noah's hide if anyone is in the area at the time.
one was reported over Bristol yesterday heading North
We have just had 2nd Jab so hoping to get out and about soon. Lets hope we all do it with, it ain't over just yet in mind. Not sure if I can stand another lockdown.
Not been in a hide for over a year, or a shop, cinema etc. And only Used 1.5 tanks of fuel in the car in 13 months. Used to use at least 26 in that time.

First Osprey egg of the year laid this morning at the Manton Bay nest, which not totally unexpected, as this was the first pair to arrive.
There have been 7 new arrivals at monitored nests over the last couple of days.

I don't know if there are plans for a nesting site to be set up in the West Country, but there are plans underway to try and establish one at least in Suffolk.
