@Wherenext it is not just Glaslyn where there have been kerfuffles, there are new pairs at Loch of the Lower who have chased off the resident female NC0, at Llyn Brenig where the resident male LJ2 has been replaced by a younger male Blue 416.

The good news is that Maya at Manton Bay is now sitting on 4 eggs, at least one of the Keilder nests contains an egg, with further eggs in the nest at Foulshaw, Loch Doon, 2off, Llyn Clywedog and Threaves.

@nelliethehooker are the increased numbers of kerfuffles we witness at nest sites due to improving numbers of Ospreys we now enjoy in our country side? Hopefully the young returnees will be encouraged to venture further afield and populate new areas. I’d love to see the Humber/Wash areas now explored and encouragement provided here.

Latest egg situation....Manton Bay 4 eggs, Loch Doon 3 eggs, Dyfi 3 eggs, Poole Harbour 2 eggs, Keilder Nest 7 2_eggs, with single eggs, up to now, at Glaslyn, Foulshaw, Llyn Brenig and Glaslyn however this one could well get kicked out or broken up by the resident male. It is now thought that there isn't an egg at Threaves after watching the behaviour of the Ospreys there.

At Loch Garten there has been plenty of action as the female is being "courted" by 3 different males, Brodie, Axel and KL5!

A very strange set of circumstances at this nest.

The first chick of the year, at any of the monitored sites, has hatched tonight at Manton Bay at 20:55. There are other nests which have eggs that are expected to hatch shortly, but many of the monitored nests are lagging well behind with eggs being laid because of changes in the pair's at the nest sites.

We were watching the hatchling at Manton struggling to get out of the shell just a few minutes ago. OH fascinated by all of the different goings on including the one in America. I get daily updates!

Have you heard from Micky recently?

Not seen a post from him in a while @Wherenext, certainly don't think so since he came back from his trip abroad. It looks as if his last post was on the 20th April.

I see that at Manton Bay the second chick hatched this morning between 04:30 and 05:05. Hope all goes well and the other two eggs hatch successfully.

The 4th egg has hatched at Manton Bay, and the chicks all appear to be feeding well. There are also other nests where some of the eggs have hatched, with 2 chicks at both Dyfi and Loch Doon, and the first one broke free from its egg at Foulshaw Moss just after midnight today. There will obviously be other nest where the eggs have started to hatch but this is all I have been able to find so far.

More interesting news, with the sighting of an Osprey on a new nest, set up last year, in Devon.

The RSPB Loch Garton Web link where I obtained most of my information on the monitored Osprey nests has to close down from 1st July because of problems with the UK Government's Archiving service. I have joined the Osprey Group on the Discord website, but it is harder to navigate, as yet, so keeping uptodate on all the nests will take a while sort out. Hopefully i will be able to give a full round up next week.

Just a quick update to say that the first set of the Osprey chicks to be born on a nest with a video link, at Manton Bay, were ringed yesterday, and there are two males, 3R6 & 3R8, and two females, 3R5 & 3R7.

Anyone who is interested to see information on all the monitored nests should sign up to the Discord App, and link into the OspreyWatchUK page. I could provide a link to it if anybody requires it. There are 16 separate links nests, 15 named ones and for "other nests"; as well as other data.

Cheers Nellie. OH been watching for quite some weeks. In fact I'll be glad when the all the little buggers fledge.😂 Also been Eagle Owlet watching from Germany, parents naturally called Tristan and Isolde, and Catching up with Jackie and Shadow the Bald Eagles in America and their 2 now fledged Offspring, Sonny and Gizmo.

Good to watch these videos as they take you away from day to day problems.

There has been plenty of activity at most of the recorded nests. At Alyth the 3 chicks have been named by the pupils of Meigle Primary School - Forest, Marlow and Oakley. At Dyfi the 3 chicks were ringed on June 20th :- 6B4 Male named Honddu; 6B5 Male named Cwellyn & 6B6 female named Brianne. At Foulshaw Nest 1 the 3 chicks are due to be ringed this week, while at Nest 2 unfortunately one of the pair of chicks died on 26th. There has been no successful breeding this year at Glaslyn, the first time in 22 seasons. At Keilder Nest 7 the two remaining chicks have been ringed, 3B3 female named Ingram and 3B4 female named Ingoe. More news from the other Kielder nests to follow.

The other nests will be listed tomorrow, hopefully.

The problem with Glaslyn @nelliethehooker was a territorial battle between 2 males, the incumbent and a newbie. Both destroying each other eggs and the female losing the will in the end to produce more.

    (Continued)

At Llyn Brenig the 2 chicks are feeding well. Loch Arkaig Nest 2 (the main nest) there are 2 chicks, while at Nest 1 there is a new pair in residence who have not produced any egg this year. At Llyn Clywedog the two chicks were ringed on 29th June, both females with rings No. 7H2 and 7H3. At Loch Doon the 2 chicks were ringed on 23rd June, both females, 4B0 & 5B1. There are no chicks at either Loch Garten and the Loch of the Lowes, although at the latter a new pairing is forming.

I will hopefully finish off the list tomorrow night. (Time for final walkies!!😁)

    (Continued II)

There is news from second nest at Glaslyn, at Pont Croesor, which is not covered by the cameras, where the resident pair have raised two chicks this season

At Manton Bay the young ones are starting to exercise/helicoptering and are self feeding from the fish brought in by 33. There are now 2 nests occupied with breeding pairs at Poole Harbour, where at the primary nest there are 4 chicks, same as last year, while at the second nest there were 3 eggs laid but only 2 hatched. The Tweed Valley nest has had a turbulent year as it was here that 2 Females and 1 Make had been breeding and their 4 eyeball hatched. However the male left for some reason and the females were.unable to provide food for then and they have subsequently all died. Usk Valley Ospreys have had their first hatching in 250 years, & on a nest they built themselves, where they laid 3 eggs but only one has hatched.

News from other Nests :- There has been a hatching at a nest at Ranworth Broad the first time in the East of England for more than 250 years. At Balgavies Loch in Angus their pair has at least 1 chick. There are now 2 nests occupied at Threaves Nature Reserve, where the pair on Nest 1 have at least one chick while there is a new pair bonding over on Nest 2.

A few of the youngsters are now "Helicoptering". Hope they don't get blown out of the nests. Good luck to them all.

I see that "No.5", the first hatched, at Manton Bay fledged today. She made a fairly good job of it as well.

Distressing news from Poole Harbour's No.2 nest where the second chick has died, but thankfully the remaining chick appears to be doing fine.

At the first nest, the Carey one, the ringed fledgelings are one female, 5R3 and the other 3 are males, 5R4, 5R5 & 5R6. This is considered good news for the area as it is usually the males that return to their natal area whereas the females tend to wander, as there are a number of Poole females breeding in Wales and the breeding females at Poole came from Rutland.

Oops, it was not Nest 2 at Poole where the 2nd chick died but at the No 2 nest at Foulshaw. Sorry for the error.

There was a death of a chick at Manton Bay where the third born chick, given the number 6, died after a flying procedure. When he fell he apparently hurt his neck and passed away in the night. Shame as he fledged about 3 days ago.
