Brian, don't know if you've been on the Kielder Ospreys web site but there are have been regular reports of the migration one of their 2017 chicks  7L/Aln which has a Sat Tag. She hasn't mated this year but is now back in Africa, having followed very closely the route she took last year. It makes fascinating reading.

She's certainly doing well, and following nearly the same route she took last year too. Wonderful how clever there's birds are, and the stamina they must have to cover the distances that they do in a single day.

Great photos from yesterday and today of a pair from this year's brood, one in Spain and the other now in Portugal.

Looks like 7L/Aln has reached her wintering site. Hope that the equipment that she's carrying will work again next year for her migration back to the UK.

I see that there has been a White Tailed Eagle chick reared for the second year in a row by a pair in Fife.

Lets not get too carried away with reopening and unrestricted travel. This virus has shown itself to be superb at exploiting any weakness. We could find ourselves in deeper trouble if we act too soon. Leave it to the Government and advisors and lets be patient. As an aside the Dovey Project super place is ready at vast cost. However you will be better off at Clywedog reservoir where the pair there  have been nesting for much longer. Not only will you get tranquility you will have a good view of the nest and most days see them actually fishing. Just remember Welsh Covid rules and lockdown

Have just received this posting with photos from Keilder Ospreys:-

Y6 seen today at Tanji Marsh, in The Gambia.

2016 female Blue Y6, from Keilder Nest 2, was seen today by Bird Guide Fansu Bojang. Fansu has conducted a number of surveys at sites in The Gambia, and saw Y6 on his first visit to Tanji Bird Reserve last October.

Although he has visited the Reserve at times, this is the first time he has spotted her since October.

Y6 bred for the first time last year, at a nest with an established male in Perthshire. She raised two chicks with him. We hope they will be reunited in a few weeks from now, and have another successful year.

Possibly as at present there are very warm winds coming from the south and last year I saw one going over whilst out for a walk and that was about a fortnight later just as well I always take my binos with me.

A lot of red kites are also flying over more than I have seen before but no black kites yet.

Will  keep an eye out for any more Osprey flying over.

The first expected arrival at a monitored nest is at Rutland Water in 10 days time, if last year's arrival is anything to go by.

Doesn't it just make one sick!!

Raptor passage at Gibraltar over last couple of days.

13 Mar: Clear skies with a moderate north-westerly wind. Passage was slower than the previous day as birds flew into a head wind. Nevertheless 879 Black Kites, 53 Short-toed Eagles, two Buzzards, 11 Sparrowhawks and an Osprey were seen.
12 Mar: Clear skies with some cloud over the hills across the Bay and over Moroccan hills. Winds northerly in the Bay but south-westerly in the Strait, getting stronger by midday. Finally a good raptor day, with birds crossing in numbers as clouds lifted over the Moroccan hills. By 11am the Strait was filled with migrating raptors, arriving low at Europa Point. At one stage the northerly winds increased, displacing thermals over the sea and giving raptors a substantial lift, thus arriving high overhead. Raptors continued throughout the afternoon, but passage slowed down by mid afternoon by which time we had recorded 1658 Black Kites, 6 Egyptian Vultures, 680 Short-toed Eagles, a Marsh Harrier, 15 Sparrowhawks, 5 Booted Eagles, and a Lesser Kestrel. Also seen at Europa Point were 100 Black Storks, three Hoopoes and a Swallow.

I suppose it's the lack of pear trees that accounts for the dearth of partridges.

At least, if I continue, you will know where to go!😋

This might be of interest to you too

    "great news from Llyn Clywedog.

John Williams and Pete from Carnyx Wild have today installed the camera on a similar alignment to last year. They have also fitted a new perch on the side of the nest opposite the camera, so we will have a view of the nest and any osprey on that perch. The original perch above the camera is also still in place."
