The reason (i understand) the Oxford vacine has not already "out there"  there ,  has been a bit of a hiccup when two guinea pigs developed bad side effects  ,who may have an undiagnosed other illness

It's odd that China has not had a 2nd wave as yet. Have they already got a vaccine?

No, but they do have a totalitarian regime and that helps.

Not only inaccurate (it was not Guinea Pigs but one Human wink) but also old news.  The trials were paused the data was reviewed and they were restarted about two months ago.  Keep up John smile.

I was reading something earlier today (can’t for the life of me find it again) that suggested the low temperature the Pfizer has to be stored at wouldn’t be an insurmountable problem. The same temperature was required for storage of the Ebola vaccine and they managed that, albeit on a much smaller scale.

There are a number of ways of transporting it, using dry ice and another method of heavily insulated ‘suitcases’ and the temperature has to be maintained whilst transporting it but then you have a 5 day ‘window’ to use it.

They also suggested that GPs’ surgeries would group together for delivery and this is what our GPS did for ‘flu this year when we went to our local Sports Centre hall.

The problem will be how to maintain the temperature in third world countries which don’t have the same infrastructure.

looks like the most ‘vulnerable’ would be at the head of the queue whether because of location (care homes) occupation or age. That’s what happens with ‘flu vaccination programmes as the aim is to prevent deaths. If the vulnerable (that includes me) are given protection then there is less pressure on the NHS and fewer people for the younger people to infect with the drop in the R-rate. Has to be a positive move.

I'm interested to know if the vaccine needs to be kept within a range close to the minus 80 deg C or just anywhere below.  If the former it could be quite challenging.  If the latter liquid nitrogen or even colder liquid helium would be useful and relatively easy.

It can be stored around zero for 5 days before it’s compromised. It’s gonna be a challenge for this Govt going on their record on covid thus far🤷🏻‍♂️

If that is the case then I don't see a problem.  The Government may not be up to it but the NHS certainly is.  Hopefully they won't let Dildo Harding anywhere near the organisation 😂.

Although few doctor's surgeries have the facility to store the vaccine at -80C many/most pharmacies do, so they will be at the forefront for both storage and dispensing of it.

They could have stored it in my bedroom when I was growing up. No heating, air-bricks in the wall and frost on the inside of the window. wink

It was discussed on radio 4 today with scientists. The vacs will arrive in small dry ice containers and can be put into refrigerated storage.

It all sounds a bit easy to me, we still don't know the data.

Pfizer have designed portable storage containers which maintain the required temperature, hold 5000 doses and are reusable.

Didn't Matt Hancock say during the Brexit debate that he had purchased loads of refrigeration to mitigate the concerns of storing the likes of insulin if there we supply problems when we left the EU. Surely he couldn't have been ahead of the curvewink

Theres the rub the Govt control the NHS. Remember Lockdown #1, Govt telling us the NHS had plenty of PPE, yet the NHS managers & staff was begging for PPE. The NHS will do what the Govt say-they pay the bills🤷🏻‍♂️☹️
