Now there's an example to prove the rule. He is doing his best but its falling on deaf ears. He can't get folk to begin to understand the concept of nothing in your pocket actually means exactly that! Don't get me started, and this isn't the right place for that discussion 🤬

And didn’t  Matt Hancock assume that Marcus’s campaign to help underprivileged youngsters was actually initiated by Daniel Radcliffe?

He’d never heard of Marcus. Well, he wouldn’t have, would he.....

    😱

And now we have Mr and Mrs Trump. "I'm not wearing a mask, masks are for whimps" (or words to that effect if I remember correctly) or at a later date  " I might wear one occasionally, I have one in my pocket". And what about this medication that he claimed to be taking because it kept Covid away?

I did not say that I don't play by the rules I nearly said that the restrictions are a waste of time as  the virus Will keep on breaking out no matter what the restrictions are. Yes the restrictions work in suppressing the virus but it simply won't stop it we will have to learn to live with it just like all other virus' in the world.

    Don

As I see it there are crazy rules and idiotic people in all walks of life (yes including teaching) who think the rules don't apply to them and it is disgraceful no argument from me, but with this virus individually you know how to minister the risk for yourself and sadly that is all we, or I can do.

Yes ABM, and we have a family member working there! We were talking about the covid possibility when we met up recently as I'd had anoher chat wih someone else about the number of plane loads of students coming in from abroad to a SW university. (I daren't tell you how many!!)

Just keep doing what you need to do and keep safe.

yes sad indeed, but it is also very predictable.

18 year olds away from home for the first time, 'freshers' and all that freedom. I remember what it was like (just) and perhaps to expect them to keep to the rules/guidelines might be too much, especially when they think it won't affect them that badly and seeing parents a long time away.

I agree KJ our grand daughter now at Nottingham Trent Uni ,is very much of it seems the minority of younger generations , who is gladly, really on top of what this virus can do to us oldies and is in regenular contact to ensure we are staying safe  even more so than our children are,

after being in town earlier this week now that the mainly agricultural college is up and running ,and their "students? are it seems unaware? that they could spread the virus when not wearing face coverings many of them in the food shops/.cafes We are now back to on line for food shopping ,unless its Aldi which it seems is to far for the students to walk toundecided

We are keeping to the rules, but are feeling more and more that we will be expected to hide away while the supposedly less endangered do as they please.

Very much the same as we feel, KJ.  It's as if it's acceptable for older people to stay at home and not have a life, while it's ok for others to do as they want, and ignore the rules and guidelines.

We too have a right to live a life, no less than someone 20 or 30 years younger, and I do feel frustrated at times when hearing or reading about people flouting the rules and having parties or get-togethers.  Don't they have any consideration for their older relatives?  Obviously not.

I disagree completely, they don’t control your life-you do👍🏻. Go where you want & do what you want, wear your mask wash & Gel your hands every time you interact with others. Swerve big gatherings, cross the road or ensure minimum 2 metres from strangers. It’s that simple, with that in your Arsenal you can have a good level of freedom. You are your own controller, live your best life👍🏻😊. I’ve taken to using quiet detours when in city centres the upshot is I’m getting way more exercise.

Unfortunately we can no longer go where we want or do what we want, even if taking all possible precautions, as, due to the actions of more than just a few, our area is under extra restrictions.

We cannot visit our son and grandchildren, although we can still go to care for our daughter's little boy 3 days per week.  We cannot however go and help her dismantle  multiple cupboards in the house to prepare, hopefully, for work to be done in a couple of weeks, though that too is now in doubt as we may well get hit with a total lockdown soon.

She cannot do the preparation without us there as she is 5 months pregnant, not supposed to be lifting very heavy things, and has a husband who does not know how to use a screwdriver!

We have had to cancel 3 booked caravan trips so far, one at the start of things, one in August due to restrictions where we were due to go, and one just now as our welsh friends who we were to visit are also in local lockdown.  They too are pretty fed up with the behaviour of some others.

Shops are getting more crowded, many shoppers are ignoring rules on face coverings, coming up close to grab things they want.  Our daughter  Is worried about going shopping in case she might pass something on to us, but she needs us to come and look after little Callum as she has to keep working.

Like  many others, I have a medical condition that was to have been dealt with several months back.  As it is considered non-urgent, who knows when I will get my operation.  Meantime, I am not getting any better, so the doc is prescribing even more drugs.......my pill box is getting very crowded these days!

Just when we thought things were really getting better over the summer, suddenly we are almost back to total lockdown.

All so unnecessary if everyone followed the rules.

Your post just shows that more control is what is needed in these times ,if the controls were as wide ranging as some other countries whos population tend to "obey" what is asked of them ,then we may have got away with much less controls now

That's a very strange post, Freddy. I'm trying to decide whether you've completely missed the point of the post or if you're being rude for the sake of it. 🤔

Your last sentence says it all R2B, others do control your life. OK that's only a small modification and doesn't really have any impact. However, there are many things we now no longer do, or are comfortable doing, simply through the actions of others. It could have all been so much better if folk could just follow the rules.

It says a lot I’ll accept that👍🏻, it says that I will be responsible for me for my family & the wider populace. I maintain my sanity & look after myself & others. That can only be for the good. We live in a changed world, one that will never be the same I accept that too but I won’t let it drag me down. . .FREEDOM(where is Mel Gibson when he’s needed🤷🏻‍♂️😊

I’d worry more about the actual problems with life rather than getting stressed over an alternative opinion to your own🤷🏻‍♂️. Anyone who needs it to be written & in statute how to live during these times have done very well to survive this long or they must have a very strong guide/controller🙄🙄. Enjoy your day👍🏻

KJ, Governmental rules are very contradictory for sure right across all nations🤷🏻‍♂️. Look after yourself as the priority, make the right decisions for your family that’s all you can do. Remote decisions from a central Governmental base cannot be right for everyone in every situation.

SIL was also useless at mending/improving anything around the house and we did many jobs for them ,until they moved futher away, and it became more "difficult " for us to pop over and do things ,he seems to be quite good now and if a problem has been known sometimes to phone me and ask if he could do it and should he attempt it,  if so how to do it ,undecidedcool

Completely, fully, wholly, agree with you Rocky. As I posted everyone should know what to do to minimise the risk of catching it. Within that a few, if inconvenient, modifications and you can live that best life.

All you can do is control yourself and your actions.

I very much doubt our SIL will ever change, he seems to have no patience to learn anything new,  no interest in doing so either, no manual dexterity, he rushes through everything, including eating, to the extent that he often suffers indigestion, and he talks so fast that even OH has a problem understanding him, and as a non native english speaker I have no chance!

His parents, who are lovely people, also have no skills in the DIY area, but he has an uncle who is not too bad and he comes and does stuff for the parents.  These days, I also get called on occasionally too.

DD however is getting pretty good at doing stuff and has invested in quite a few tools, she will get all mine when I no longer need them!
