A bit rude there Fish and not needed. You may disagree with what I'm posting but you could be civil about it? Do I use similar remarks about your post?

Actually what is tosh about the way I described Christmas being celebrated in normal times as I described? Did you misread or misunderstood what I posted?

And have I said it is a welcome indulgence anywhere?

But you have echoed my point, if one doesn't think it is appropriate or welcome then don't do it?

I couldn't agree more, total madness for this to go ahead with numbers now going back up.

Why can't we just stick it out for another couple of months.

We have organised with out children and grandchildren to do a zoom on Christmas day.

Once this is all over or once we have had our vaccine we will go down and see them, until then we are keeping ourselves out of harms way.

Christmas lunch is home with just us, not really any different to other years, as our children live hundreds of miles away, so we don't spend Christmas day with them anyway.

The ones that live on their own will find it hard, but I'm sure they would rather be alive fit and well to spend next Christmas with family.

Evidently the "new strain" of the virus ,found in Kent, is how it has been mutating regularly every two weeks which is how it has been tracked across the world ,and is being checked at Porton Down now ,against the vaccines now available and so far the results show little effect on them

I'm still waiting to come out of lockdown (self imposed) With this latest transmutation it looks like being another 12 months in purdah.

Lets hope that the vaccine manufacturers can keep pace with the changes in the virus.

Achoo! -  I think it is only cold, but who knows.

do want people like you blocking critical care beds

David you're jumping in too quickly and have not read my posts carefully enough.

Where have I written that that I approve (or not) of the proposed Christmas rules? My own view throughout is look after oneself. I won't be doing anything different this Christmas than I have during these past few weeks, apart from overeating and drinking and you personally have said that you'll be drinking too from wine you have brought back yourself.

Where have I written that I will be one of these people who will be bubbling up with anyone else this Christmas and therefore putting lives at risk and/or blocking a critical care bed. I actually find that highly offensive

The 'put it aside' you quoted was from:

Well it is a celebration and that includes in normal times families, friends, feasting and drinking together as part of it (religious or not) and it is too firmly established in our culture and lifestyle (religious or not) to be put aside so easily. It is more than a fixation I would say.

You will notice I hope that I am talking about society in general and not myself. Also you have missed out the so easily and therefore changed, in your haste, the whole essence of my post when I was discussing how difficult it will be for people to put all that aside.

As I said highly offensive you have tried to lump me in with someone who would put lives at risk.

We will be on Facetime or Zoom with our son and family, and spending Christmas day with our daughter, SIL and grandson at their house.

We are informal carers for our grandson, so have  been there looking after him several times per week since August as his Dad is an essential worker.    We mix with nobody else, so I suppose we are in a sort of "bubble" with them.

We observe distancing, sit at opposite ends of the (long) table, so feel safe.  Lots of hand washing, separate towels etc.

Christmas day will be pretty much like any other day for us.

Might be worth reading them more carefully before jumping in with a knee jerk reaction in that case. I mean, why reply to a post you don't understand? undecided

To quote one of "your mates" (wink) - "it made perfect sense to me"! laughing

I think I've made it abundantly clear what my view of the Christmas "free for all" is, David, in few enough words that even you can't be in any doubt. Just take a look back at any of my previous posts. frown
