That will be down to 1st minister Drakeford Tinny👍🏻, I’m afraid the 3 Govt leaders are setting a bad example to us all by agreeing on very little & blaming each other for the failures☹️

At this time of the year and stage of the pandemic no pub visits for me and mine.  I really enjoy a pint but I will wait until vaccine plus four weeks, whenever that may be.

I see they are now thinking of mixing the vaccines.  One jab of one type followed by another of a different one.  Not only will we be able to receive BBC 2 but another channel of choice and be tracked world wide by the microchips.  Only joking of course laughing.

There appeared to be quite a few in Nottingham who were not pleased with the Christmas market. After one day this was closed down because of the 'unexpected crowds' and has been taken away. The market included a number of fairground rides which would probably attract more of the younger generation to the event.

I read that it was late in the evening when the crowds really became a problem ..... after pubs, cafe's stopped serving and stalls were still serving food.  I don't know the truth of that but it was indeed poorly planned and organised

Sorry a bit late to the conversation, I've just read through/caught up with the last posts. As a non prolific poster I thought I'd still have my say. What numpty allowed that Nottingham market to go ahead? Not even any toilet facilities! How was that market essential. Why was it necessary. I understand having a few stalls in a market place in a small town in the open air but this beggars belief. It goes to show that some people still don't get it.

I think that's a large part of the problem, Debs. Some people don't get it and subsequently endanger the rest of the population. ☹

Madness it maybe, but no different to opening up sports and theatrical venues in a limited way. Personally I’d feel happier sitting in a cozy pub with others, meal or no meal, listening to a live band than taking my chances alongside hordes of excited others loudly shouting and gesturing - socially distanced or not.

The rules on meals in pubs are ridiculous. Since lockdown there is a growing number of visitors/second home owners in Cornwall enjoying all it has to offer. Not surprisingly, some share the pub with tier 1 locals all happily drinking and eating. When they’ve finished their meal in theory they should leave 🤣. Rules should be rational and easily enforceable otherwise why bother?

Were you a hippy in the 60’s? 😀 Nice sentiment 👍

The film that was on the news was quite clearly taken whilst it was still daylight. It appeared manic - a description by someone who was there. God help em if the crowds got worse later in the night.

No, not a hippy but thankyou for the comment.

I've learnt a lot over the years about inclusivity and equality and how divisiveness can disenfranchise people. Advantaging/favouring  some actually disadvantages others and by looking at a situation from all angles helps us see that.

Those hippies had some things right! 🙂

We're in tier 2 Steve and our daughter played in a gig last weekend at a local venue, it was in a draughty barn conversion where a meal was also served. Everyone had to sit at tables, there was some warmth from a couple of fire pits! No moving around or swapping tables, limited numbers. She played at a venue run by the Ham Hill Cider Company. A previous gig at a pub in Bridgwater was played outdoors too (earlier on before the recent lockdown.) Most reponsible bars and restaurants have had to make big efforts to make there venues as covid safe as possible. Which means they are trying to look after their livelihoods and their customers.

I've just been looking at what looks like the "cheats guide to Covid" where some venues are selling tickets for pub music sessions as long as you stay in your seat and keep drinking. It's a deplorable. It's called looking after yourself and don't worry about the virus or the customers.

Looking for loopholes means that many still haven't got the message about this disaster of a virus.

from a very well known Daily Newspaper

"How do you play DC monopoly ?

    Ignore the rules

move anywhere on the board you like

    and never go to jail"

me thinks this is what many will be doing in the run up to xmas and beyond undecided

OH tells me he saw an interview with a pub landlord who was near to tears with desperation. His pub serves meals so he has been very busy with bookings, he said he could fill a skip with the amount of wasted, untouched food that folk are ordering, just so they can get a drink. Why are folk so desperate to go to a pub for a drink, you can buy drink in all the supermarkets, if you are so desperate shop there take it home save money, save lives. It speaks volumes about us as a nation that so many can't follow the rules once it comes to drink.yell

I’m minded of a rather famous tune by John Lennon. It’s obviously a fanciful notion, but a wonderful aspiration, I think.

No idea why my comment was removed, it was meant to be light-hearted.

check out the Ski resorts Verbier all over social media, very large queues, no social distancing and bars packed to the rafters, and remember the super spreader in europe when all this kicked off was a guy skiing in Austria, not just the UK breaking the rules undecided.

Not condoning or condemning it, but it’s the law of unintended consequences. If such things aren’t properly thought through then we shouldn’t be surprised by the perverse outcomes. It’s not entirely down to the people driving horses & carts sideways through the restrictions, it’s also the nonsense created by politicians et al that encourages them to do it. There are many, particularly younger folks out there who think they’re invincible so see no need to play the game as intended.

I'm surprised at that, David, as you were around earlier and you'll be aware that I can’t go into detail without quoting the post I was replying to. Suffice to say it was about treating each other fairly.

Bear in mind the thread is Covid Madness, rather than covid itself so my remarks weren't totally off topic.

It's OK folks, they've started vaccinating people today. Meanwhile a young couple in their 30's complete with all hangers on and security are whizzing round Great Britain on a Covid free train. Covid madness?

    In other news...

I received my appointment today for my annual hospital check-up procedure (next week), almost a year to the day since my last one. Not something I look forward to (it’s unpleasant), but I think it just shows what a sterling job the NHS is doing. I realise it’s not the case for everyone, but even so...
