It no use getting dogs to "harass" people who do not comply with covid rules as several of the dog owners i meet daily, are still trying to teach our dogs social distancingsurprisedcool

Impressive what a trained medical dog can do. Friends of ours had a PAT dog who used to go into hospitals regularly, gave many of the patients a huge boost. When my MIL was in hospital for a while many years ago, she fretted terribly about her “best friend” who was in fact living with us at the time. We smuggled MIL out on a wheelchair into hospital grounds, all wrapped up, and took the dog out of the car for her to say hello to, did her more good than all the rehab therapy.

Be interesting what happens if/when a vaccine becomes available for C19. London based study found that only 49% were likely to take it up. Not sure what the sample was, or if it was just Londoners.

Dog owners...get over the idea that dogs have some kind of miraculous diagnostic and healing abilities. If they had GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca would be breeding them, cloning them and turning them into medication. They’re just dogs.

David I saw a programme on tv about the dogs they are training to detect Covid, it was quite impressive.

They are thinking about using them at airports etc to speed up arrivals,  like they do with the dogs that can detect drugs and money.

Every right minded person recognises the benefits dogs can bring to humans, M. 👍🏻

I think you'll find it's another attempt to 'annoy' others.

I was referring to the absurd suggestion that dogs have some clinical role in combating CV19. Fairly obvious if you look at the context of this thread. However, predictable response.

Don't take my word for it - see the posts above by David and Tammy (both non dog owners I believe.) It's about detection, not a "clinical role" whatever you think that means.

Well, if you’re unlucky enough to contract CV19, I hope a sniff from your dog is enough to save you. I suggest you Google ‘clinical’ and you’ll understand it’s meaning in medical diagnostics.

You do really need to read posts before coming out with posts which prove how ignorant you are about what our cannine popularion is capable of , or stay quiet about itfrown

I think the open minded are looking at it from a medical and scientific point of view ED. Anything that might help regarding C19.

Judging by the number of owners of multiple dogs, can we assume that hypochondria is on the rise?

Since the lockdown/furlough and restricted access to the great outdoors (that does not apply to essential dog walking)there has been a big increase in dog ownership,(confirmed by our vets) upside is more people getting exercise, downside more dog mess by some inconsiderate owners who , as in all areas of society, do not think about others

There’s abstract science and there’s the real world. I’ll take it seriously when governments start buying dogs instead of testing kits, anti-virals and future vaccine allocations etc.

    Real world....that rings a bell😄😄😄

It may have escaped your notice but the Govt does use dogs. I'll not insult your intelligence by listing their uses.

I'm not sure what abstract science is SB? In fact I've never heard the term ( tried googling it) and indeed it could a contradiction in terms at best.

Is there really a difference between science and the real world? Science ('proper' or established scientific theories if you like) tries to describes the real world.

I’m sorry I posted that link now, as it’s triggered a bit of the usual nastiness where anything that mentions a dog is targeted, particularly from one SW individual who has a real problem discussing anything with d-o-g in a post. Thanks to others who have contributed, and bothered to take an interest in another aspect of C19 science. I won’t be contributing in terms of anything to do with dogs, but happy to follow other contributions.

I read a news report about training giant rats to sniff out unexploded bombs, but  haven't had time to check whether there are Club rules relating to rats.

Did anyone else the Jeremy Vine show yesterday, there an item about some in Yorkshire making money for charity by getting people to pay to vent their pent up anger and feelings. For a fee one can buy a 15 minutes slot to destroy with various given items (sledgehammer, golf clubs) a static caravan. It is proving very popular, some attack the outside shell, which apparently to harder to destroy than one would imagine, while like to smash up the inside with one lady having found lots of happiness in smashing up the oven. They also restock the cupboards with old plates each time and people enjoy smashing those up too.

I read “tongue in cheek” as trolling in this instance. But then he actually called me out on my avatar name not so long ago, so perhaps I am a bit more aware of his dog based “difficulties”. Good that you took the time to read about some of the research though.🙂

I must admit I did not see any nastiness directed to SB at all, only reasoned and polite counter arguments.
