, the element of also having to metaphorically be looking over your shoulder all the time which to us has taken away a lot of the enjoyment of going away at present

I think it a case of getting used to the new norm, at least until a vaccine comes along which could be some way off. Just had our first restaurant meal since February. We ate inside and it didn't feel uncomfortable in anyway. Staff wore face masks, social distancing was observed and there was plenty of hand gel around. We carried our own and wipes just incase. Nevertheless I have one eye on the stats and I suspect the day of locking down again is not far off. I won't be waiting for the Government to make the decision either.

I made that decision back in March ( undecided ) I think it was, peedee.

Only one appointment made requiring an actual visit { to opticians } and that's this Wednesday Morning.  There after I'll try B & Q for more wood hardener in order to finish the shed bodging well before the dark nights & snow interfere innocent

Can't predict anything, so just going with the flow, haven't felt seriously curtailed on site stays but adaption is the word and accepting things as they are. Hoping to complete our next trip, not thinking too much beyond that at the moment.

We were in Tintagel 1  week ago and the situation was very similar, nothing going on just the sheer volume of people crammed into very narrow streets and pavements, but what did wind me up was the number of people walking down the street smoking and blowing their smoke everywhere, and lots of people eating pasties and not caring about any SD, although we had paid for 4 hrs parking we left after 1 hours, far to dangerous for us, however , most other places we have visited in both Devon and Cornwall have been reasonably ok, was in Bude yesterday, beautiful day, beach very crowded but SD very much in evidence, except in the sea, but the sea pool was  brilliant. Site we are on is relativily small but all precautions are being taken to no problems.

I watched the new part progressing during development and had hoped that some shrubbery/windbreaks would have been installed around the whole area.  There's nothing to stop the 'sea breezes' blowing straight off the sea and across the whole of the new part of the site.  I know the site staff wouldn't like it as it makes grass cutting more time consuming.  At least the pitches are a decent size. wink

That’s why we always book a non-awning pitch at Southport as I really dislike the newer part. It’s a favourite site because of Victoria Park and the walk around the Marine a lake. We also go over the road into the dune area, climb the sand dunes and you have a lovely sheltered walk.

We certainly aren’t looking over our shoulders, just taking sensible precautions and enjoying our trips.  Since the reopening in July we have been to Burrs, Southport (twice), Kendal, Wirral, Buxton and a private site (again twice as its beautiful, has fishing and is £18 a night).

Looking for somewhere next weekend now.

As far as I'm concerned the CC's Southport site is just a big car park, and among the worst ones in the network.

The new section is soulless and barren area with no tree or shrub planting carried out. A featureless wasteland. We have been to Southport each of the last 10 years for a 12 or 15 night stay, lately from mid December until around 30th. Quite happy to use the older part of the site, although I suppose that, in truth at that time of year we would see little of the site with the short days of December.

I only go December and the new part is open Ann. Sometimes the pitches where you come in, turn left on the site and go past the public footway are gated off but not the main part of the older site nor the new half. The new half is where the serviced itches are and so I cannot see that closing off.

I didn't see any MHs parked up during our bike rides, but then we keep mostly to the smallest roads we can find, so mostly unsuitable for MHs tongue-out

Didn't go there this time, something for next time. Yes, the Wolds is a lovely area, and also very few people about, which is a bonus at the moment wink

Ina, we picked up quite a lot of cycling leaflets for the Wolds when we visited WatersEdge Information Centre, the big centre on the south side of the Humber Bridge, next to the nature reserve. Not sure if they are open or even giving the leaflets out at present but maybe one to remember for when next in the area.

Happened to find myself in sunny Durham today just before new restrictions are implemented. Was shocked by the per/100k figures reported on the news last night so walked the 3 miles in from Durham Grange instead of risking the bus. We spent a short time watching the hire boat operation alongside The Boathouse at Elvet Bridge. Disappointed to see a succession of customers being allocated rowing boats with absolutely no cleaning of oars, seats etc between hiring groups. The 2 blokes running the operation could have cleaned the boats, they even had the materials to do so, but couldn’t be bothered. No wonder this thing isn’t going away!

There are two “wolds” areas😁 Yorkshire, which is David Hockney country, and then over Humber into Lincolnshire Wolds. Both lovely. I think the bleakest bit of coastline I have ever visited was East of Thornton Gatehouse. Once you got past there it was just the odd lone house, and shivering sands and marshes. We came across an old tank abandoned half buried in sand.

As for restrictions, leadership on this is very confusing and totally half hearted measures. How will closing pubs an hour earlier contribute much? Annoyed to find that grouse shooting and hunting are exempt activities as well😡 Yes they take place outdoors, but shooters cram into vehicles to get up to shooting areas, and both activities involve plenty of socialising, getting together etc......

    Double standards again☹️

My pic was taken near the ancient Bluestone Rd track that runs across the top of the Lincs Wolds, really beautiful and yes, the Yorks Wolds are too.

Won't get into the "huntin and shootin" question but I'm glad to hear there will be some sort of curfew on all those late night bars that spill out onto the streets.

But I feel sorry for all those leisure industry people who've made huge efforts to keep people as safe as possible.

There have been a few questions in our part of the SW where rates are still low in many places and people are conforming.

Fingers crossed that caravan sites are not within the government's "sights."

Well, we are now at the NYM site near Whitby, having arrived yesterday lunchtime. Despite the sign asking us to ring a mobile and pay over the phone, I was invited into Reception ( with mask), to book in, in the normal way. Lady warden was very good about sanitising the key pad of the card machine before I touched it.

Site is very busy - full for the next week and a lot of comings and goings. Pitches are well spaced - one of the reasons we like it - but I am a bit surprised - that unlike the 4 CLs and CSs we have been on since the 4th July, there is no hand sanitiser around the service points. We have our own, and gloves of course - but not what I expected of this club.

Problem is that Lots of pubs open until well after midnight now and some are packed with 20-30 year olds so I can understand why the curfew was introduced - alcohol doesn’t go hand-in-hand with common sense.

I feel sorry for those trying to run a business. My niece’s partner owns a sports bar in Warrington and only reopened last weekend.  He’s introduced Covid ‘safe’ practices ( sitting at tables only inside, no bar service etc) and has done up the outside area and had a screen put up there with well spaced out standing ‘areas’ around individual areas. No idea how he’s going to keep going now with new measures in Warrington. Very hard for small businesses when you have a young family and a mortgage to pay.

We agree about the lack of hand sanitiser at the service points at NYM site, and we were surprised about it too.  We left there on Sunday.  Of course we took our own precautions but even so, like you have found, we have had something (be it a spray or sanitiser) in our previous stops.

As a point of interest, what is the position with regard to hand sanitizer at service points? I have only come across these at CMHC sites in Wales, on all sites we have stayed on in England they were not present.

we have stayed on 5 caravan sites this year all have been exceptional with covid restrictions, but as you are all stateing we have not gone out to places has heaving with people quite frankly without a care in the world no distancing and no masks, which we felt uncomfortable about so like the rest of you we have kept ourselves to ourselves and done the quiter walks.  Cirencester, bourton on the water, have been the worst we just turned around and walked back.

So on site the club has done a fantastic job, your always going to get the odd one, which we have witnessed abusing the systems but they have to remember its for everyones safety so we can all enjoy it, and keep our families, elderly and young safe when we return home.

I think if you have lost someone and we have to this dreadful condition you are always cautious and I assure you that had we not felt safe we would of left and gone home, so enjoy your break and have a change of scenery safely.

A lot of things are just nonsensical to start with sadly, so add in the apparent confusion to many and a degree of couldn’t care less from a tiny proportion of others, and it’s not a good mix. I feel terribly sad for small businesses, particularly those in the hospitality sector.

However, I would put lifelong requirements such as schooling, hospitals, other health care, transportation, food production, caring services ahead of the personal gratification services at times like this. It’s a bit of an absolutely need versus nice to have situation. Sadly, our country is just so reliant upon tiny knife edge businesses nowadays, many have thrived during the good times, but so difficult at the moment. Outsourcing so many former council provided services is going to come back and bite now. If private companies can’t fulfill payments to shareholders, owners, they are going to sink. Care Homes are a case in point.

Not a political point, but personally I would like to see a Coalition of expertise from all the parties working together to get us through this time of difficulty. That would show real commitment to working together, leading by example.😕

Is the Club really expected to look after every detail of hand sanitation when it should be a personal responsibility? Even if provided there is no guarantee it will be used. I would have thought it far better if individuals attend to their own hygiene. We always carry hand sanitiser, antiseptic wipes and disposable gloves when even we go out in the car or motorhome. There is also a judgement to be made from those options which is the best method to use in each case and rubbing your hands in sanitiser might not be that best option?

It's a good habit to get into, using santiser before entering and leaving somewhere, I think it might have been better on club sites to have some at the facility points. Most other places have this option in place.
