A well known commercial site in Cornwall is already cancelling bookings from certain Leicestershire post codes.

I was under the impression that, when the daily 5pm briefings were dropped, it was made clear that they would be held again for any future significant developments. Surely this is just such an occasion and either the PM or Health Secretary should be on TV explaining the situation and taking questions?
Wiltshire appears on a list of 36 other cities/counties which might have the same local lockdown started in future but I've found it impossible to discover exactly why or in what circumstances it might be imposed.

Not good in fact terrible for the people concerned, but when you see what has been happening over the last couple of weeks in resorts across the country i am not surprised.

Good for them (Pentewan Sands), the frenzy of bookings currently in progress needs a reality check. This is not the best year to visit Cornwall unless you enjoy congestion, crowds, queues, risking your life and endangering the health of others. From the afternoon of 3rd July, Cornwall will likely see an unprecedented influx of ‘staycation’ visitors over a few days. At any given time during the peak season there’s about 250,000 extra people in Cornwall. Thats about 50% of the resident population, so given the ‘churn’ of people coming and going (millions when added together) the reservoir for CV19 is massively increased as are the consequential risks for locals and visitors alike.
The scenes witnessed in Bournemouth will be nothing compared to popular locations throughout July & August. Catering, retailers and hospitality will struggle to cope with demand -v- reduced capacity. Social distancing will be impossible as you wait in a heaving queue, dart into the doorway of a narrow street to avoid traffic ( joined by several others in your face) or struggle to protect a tiny patch of overcrowded beach with closed toilets. Cornwall has experienced low levels of CV19, but that’s because of its relative isolation and high compliance with restrictions. Tourists, 2nd home owners, campers and coach tours have largely stayed away, but that’s all about to change and it won’t be pretty (or safe).
As the WHO said yesterday ....”the worst is yet to come”.

On our local news tonight there was an item about a caravan park in Cornwall, static and touring, which is cancelling bookings from people in Leicester. I’d not be surprised if others follow suit.

A different kind of summer for me this year. Before CV19, the plan was to have been in Greece for many weeks now, instead I’ve found myself stuck at home in Cornwall in what would have been a busy time, albeit low season, In many ways I’ve enjoyed it, I’ve got to know my neighbours better, the local pubs and restaurants have been doing amazing takeaways, the selfish/annoying materialistic 2nd home owning yuppies have been largely absent, the sense of community has been amazing with people supporting each other, particularly the vulnerable and those screening. The local fishing village, although eerily quiet has, for a few brief months, been idyllic in lockdown. It’s all about to change big time so I decided it’s time to escape the bedlam that is Cornwall in July & August.
I’d planned a route taking in the quieter sections of the New Forest, lesser known Cotswolds, Worcestershire and Elan Valley in mid wales. In all cases the fees charged by CMC & CCC, even with closed showers/toilets/laundry facilities, were amongst the highest of all the local sites and most were fully booked! I’ve managed to secure nice pitches with a selection of commercial sites, all cheaper than comparable club sites. No longer convinced club membership has many benefits, particularly as insurance quotes were uncompetitive this year also.

Lets hope the residents of these places enjoy the visitors to their area a little more than you obviously enjoy the visitors to the area where you live.

Lives are important.....we can welcome tourists later!
Tourists who may bring the virus here are not a good idea.As an elderly, more at risk person, who has not been able to hug his grandson since late March, I think we need to put keeping safe before tourism.

The strange thing is, after all the nightmare of the beaches on the Dorset coast, Dorset remains one of the counties with the lowest counts of the virus, which is more evidence to the fact those on the beaches have come from elsewhere left their rubbish and gone home. Social distancing on this side of the county anyway, is working well and fully supported by residents.
The difference from the 4th of July is that people will be allowed to stay overnight or longer that is now the concern. It is the same concern for all Holiday destinations I think.
If you have read the what are you up to thread yopu will know that my medical center has recommended another 3 month isolation or at minimum 2m distance if I am to go back to work(my boss is furious!). So the Medical side seems concerned as well.

Not sure if Martin lives in the effected area as he said that he lived close to Leicester. And yes I do respect his decision. My highlights have been weekly shopping and 7 runs with garden waste!

We are hoping to take a couple of weeks away in the caravan In August/September, but we will be staying in Scotland. We will venture south for a few weeks, maybe in late September, if we feel it is safe.
We have good friends to visit in Wales, something we do every year as they cannot travel far, so hoping we may be able to get there this year. No sites booked ...too far away to contemplate as yet.
