yes, im sure there are some right twerps about, but is this the 'kick everyone we can think of' thread...
the judgemental attitude of some (predicatable) posters is well to the fore.
the thread seems to have become a vehicle for some with Pontif-icating ambitions...
'Long is the way, and hard....." (understatement of the (last) millenium)
relentlessly crucifying all and sundry cant be good for (One's) morale, can it....?

We had to resort to going to a supermarket today, during the early ‘old people’s’ hour. Against our better judgment really as we are both in an at risk group but needs must, we have to eat! We have been trying to get a delivery slot for many days but no luck. I must admit I felt reasonably safe in the end. The staff were only letting a few people in at a time and as one left another could enter, the trolley had been sanitised between customers and no queue at checkouts. A queue outside wasn’t enormous and moved quite quickly.

Have you considered Iceland heddlo? They were the original online shopping order firm. Might be worth considering if you are struggling with other brands. They do stock a reasonable range, although nothing like to big stores. Google farm shops as well, some are doing veg/fruit boxes, milk, cheese and eggs. Ringtons for tea, coffee, biscuits, free delivery.👍

The Guardian has an 'Analysis' Report on why/how Spain 'got it so wrong'. Multi-faceted causes; International Women's Day, major European Football match, continued family close contact group dining at outdoor restaurants, lots of kissing and hugging at these gatherings. Spanish Primary Care in hospitals acknowledged to be superb, but follow up is patchy and has been under resourced since the 2008 Financial Crash; Political arguing and a touch of manana meant that the 'Emergency Plan' took 24 hours to put in place, and then it was discovered that there were inadequate staff PPE to tackle the virus safely.
There are items in the Analysis, such as a degree of complacency in Spanish Government, believing that the geographical location meant that they were far enough away to avoid the cross border contamination seen in Austria, Italy, Germany etc {I keep remembering odd snippets!].
There is a separate comment [from the Business Blog IIRC, too many bits of info for my addled brain to process at present!] indicating that, when the dust settles, Spain is going to need another EU Bailout to restart its economy, because the Coronavirus pandemic has devastated the economic recovery that Spain had achieved after 2008.
The Financial aspect will probably be the easiest element to achieve.Finding the end of the infection pattern and driving down the death rate, as in the rest of Europe, has a long way to go yet.

I dont need to tell you how far some of us are from London, Metheven. There may well be a case for such a unit in the north or the SW, for example, but I imagine the Excel unit was created where they thought the most immediate need would be.....or it might have been exactly as you said.😗

That's the same as one of the points I made🙄

Hi
That's exactly what's been going on in Spain for that last two weeks, one in one out. We should have done that long before, it would have also cured the smash and grab approach of the selfish of our race, max three items of any one product, enough for all.

Hey folks,
We're all probably bored or whatever way to describe the feeling but let's stop bickering and keep discussing? No point getting the thread locked.
I'm only on day 2 of isolation so to keep busy I'm going to walk around site and compile a list of jobs I'd do if it was my site. By the looks of it it will take a while!!!!
Anyone know how to write in the story section without getting timed out please?

Its been noted and commented on, about Germany's death figures being so low compared to the amount of cases they have.
One report gave a few reasons for this,
1. they have tested far more people than other countries so have picked up on those that have only had mild symptoms.
2. A vast number of those tested were in the younger age range 20 - 50 this is because they were away skiing in areas that had virus cases.
The 3rd reason I think we are probably about to find out. A vast number of the older people 'holiday' in Spain over winter. Now that these are returning home will they see more deaths. Sad but only time will tell.

Having been born the Black Country [as distinct from Birmingham], I remember watching theSaturday Football Results and wondering why/how would want to go as far north as Carlisle. Now I know
But Chief Medical Officer ['CMO'] for Scotland has said today that she is aware of the need to identify Scottish sites, but that the immediate concern is to focus on expanding capacity at existing hospital sites.
CMO also said that current number of cases in Scotland are likely to be under reported significantly . She expects confirmed cases to be in the 40,000 to 50,000 range, with many people unaware that they have the virus. I suppose this might be good news since this suggests that the symptoms are not serious enough in each individual to warrant seeking medical help? Fingers crossed.

I have just had some up to date advice of what to do if someone close to you coughs. This is known as a near cough. Advice is to ask them to far cough.......

Unfortunately it also means that those young people who did not realise they had it can easily have already passed it on to several others, and to we older folk before social distancing was the thing.
We have a possible case of this in our family......
Son in law's sister's friend, or maybe it was a work colleague, was 3 weeks ago confirmed as having had it. Sister now thinks she may also have had it as she had loss of taste and smell, and now Son in Law thinks he may have had it 2 weeks ago as he had a one off raised temperature and the same loss of taste and smell.
We are however remembering that both SIL and his sister are drama queens when it comes to being unwell......but even so.
On the 14th we had little Callum's birthday party, about 28 people, from age 3 months to age 77.....fortunately we are all feeling fine so far!

Glad you are considering writing a story as you have probably got quite a tale to tell! Be nice if you can add in a few photos if you have the chance to take any.
As Peedee says the best way is to write it in Word and then copy and paste into the story section.
