Coronavirus: Stay or go

Government guidelines say to self isolate and not to mix with other people. With 7 in the household I am contravening the guideline. People on this forum have already called me irresponsible, unthinking etc. and been quite rude. I didn't ask for this I was just asking what I should do. There was no need to be nasty.

You only just have to see them stand one behind another at the door of the supermarkets waiting for them to open, and then standing shoulder to shoulder in the queue at the tills waiting to pay for their goods. They'll be the ones queuing for the ice creams too.

You self isolate only if you have symptoms but you are allowed to share a house with others - that breaches nothing.
Otherwise, for those without symptoms, the advice is to employ social distancing by staying at home and not undertaking unnecessary journeys because that encourages the unwitting spread of the virus. You propose to fly in the face of that advice if you go away for a non-essential purpose.
I have seen no one be nasty to you but I have seen them dish out advice on responsibility and common sense in following the Govt guidance. If you ask the advice of others, I’m afraid you must take what comes on the chin.

Err, no. The Govt has made the risk assessment on our behalf.
"The government has also urged the public to take further steps to protect themselves and the wider population from the coronavirus, including:
Everyone to stay at home unless they need to get essential supplies such as food and medicines."
It might not yet be law but it is there for us to follow and only the foolhardy ignore such important advice.

Everything is cancelled from end of this month till mid October.
We've retained our last club booking at a non facility site incase things do improve later on, but that will be cancelled if necessary.
The caravan will be serviced as normal in early April & we have arranged to have a full electrical service included this year, the service is done by an independent service engineer on storage site.
I'm happy to still retain his services to maintain his income, unless he cancels it himself.
Myself & OH are self isolating we have food delivery sorted & everything we need at home.
Plus extremely good neighbours if required & the garden is more than enough to keep us busy over spring and summer.
We intend to stay safe & well, so please everyone stay safe also.
What we don't do this year God willing will be done 2021.

They tried to urge the public not to use bars and all such venues, and that was ignored so Boris closed them all, unnesserary travel will be next , as some as usual, think it does not apply to them
John Lewis is closing all its dept stores from monday

I can tell you for nothing that if I lived with a wife and were on front line services I would not wish my father of that age to have been under the same roof. OK, I could have installed him in our caravan on the storage are at the back of the drive at home and would have done so. Not Everybody has that option. The fact that the government lays out some general, or specific, guidelines does not remove the power from anybody to make their own decision in such a circumstance. No matter what those that cannot think for themselves may believe.

It wasn't an official statement but the statement of an official when asked whether people should be going to campsites. He merely reiterated the advice that people should only make essential journeys as advised by the Government and he didn't believe that going to a campsite was essential.
My machine is a bit tempermental with links but the statement was made at 14.49. See BBC News, Wales.
It was the Health Minister.

I think every body is capable of thinking for themselves ,,the problems come when they think, that after the advise from those who are hoping to contain this terrible latest threat to our lives,,, that it only applies to others, hence what made Boris do as he did and will I am sure, be extended to other areas of "advise"that some still ignore

The Govt guidelines do, however, help those of us with vision and a responsible outlook to do our own research and enable us to see the wisdom of following what has been advised rather than carrying on regardless and hoping for the best. We, as individuals, do not always know best. Only the foolish or arrogant believe that.

You will doubtless be nitpicked for using the term 'Self isolation' instead of the buzzwords 'social distancing' no matter. As an older person and possibly vulnerable then it is my view that rather than living in a household with several younger members exposed on a daily basis to the possibility of contracting the disease due to work etc that it makes perfect sense to isolate yourself from them despite what others may say.

I am genuinely taken aback by the selfishness of some people. Yes we would all like to go on a break, it's spring. But like the food shopping hoarders we must not do it! Even if people think they would be better off away, what about the locals you might be taking the virus to. To all these selfish people I will be blunt. Stay Away! The locals don't want you here. You Are Not Welcome.

"CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) INFORMATION FOR OUR CUSTOMERS
SADLY, OUR SHOPS ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSING
We have kept our shops open as long as possible because we know how important a role they play to you and your local communities. Due to the unfolding situation with Coronavirus (COVID-19), we’re very sad to have to let you know we’ll be temporarily closing John Lewis shops from the end of the day on Monday 23 March. For 155 years, our mission has been to serve you – and rest assured, that will continue. Over the coming days we’ll be exploring ways to offer Partner-led services remotely, which could include nursery or wellbeing advice, and craft and cookery classes provided by Partners online, or on one to one calls. And, many of our shop Partners will be joining their colleagues at Waitrose, as we play our part to help feed the nation during this time.
We may be closing our shop doors, but you can still shop with us online.
Take care of yourselves, your loved ones and your community, and we look forward to welcoming you back into our shops when the time is right. Please keep visiting this page for the latest information."
If John Lewis do this then surely it suggests that a wider shut down is on the way?

John Lewis has said that some staff were to assist at Waitrose stores which is part of the group. I have bought a number of items from JL but all but one has been on line and for collection. I suspect this is a high part of their sales and will continue.

But like the food shopping hoarders we must not do it!
A lot is made on social media about food shopping hoarders. In reality according to information given at the last government press announcement yesterday the total additional expenditure amounts to less than £17 per head of population thus far. An industry spokesperson likened it to people having an extra week stock. I personally reckon that it worked out less.

I live in Gwynedd and I know that the local health and emergency services are very hard pushed during the holiday season even when there is no pandemic. Local GPs have warned that they will find it very difficult if not impoosible to offer the Temporary Resident cover should there be a spike in the number of local cases. Fellow members might like to think hard on this before travelling to this part of the country and maybie postpobe their holidays until later on

Our local SW news has just shown a caravan site owner who won't be opening up to visitors, they then showed a Haven Park who's chief officers think like the CAMC directors that's it's ok to keep open. Now that the Gov has asked that we all stay at home there is no reason to open caravan parks up for visitors except to keep the tills flowing. There is absolutely no other reason, we have 80 Coronavirus cases in the SW, a further group of deaths and it's increasing every day. Please stay away, give our emergency services, hospitals and patients a fighting chance.

I may have got this part wrong JVB but it was one of the major companies, I'm not giving out official news or as AD said sanctimonious preaching that of course is something that doesn't help the situation. But the fact that much of the SW is a popular holiday area adds to the anxiety that we might be on the receiving end of an increase in Coronavirus cases due to unnecessary population movement. And those of us who live in holiday areas need to get the message across even if the Club ignores our pleas.
