First 2 cases reported on Lanzarote last night, a couple from Madrid. Been on the island a few days staying down in Playa Blanca.

Local schools closed, St Patricks day parade cancelled as is football.

Went to get some water today and the locals have gone mad,  shopping trolleys so full one woman couldn't see over the top.

Not sure what other restrictions are coming into force yet but cruise ships have been stopped from docking. Something going on at the airport by all accounts, not sure what, rumour has it could be temperature monitoring.

Oh well we will see come Thursday when we are fue to fly home.

Not surprised as I thought there situation just slightly behind Italy although I doubt that it makes a great deal of difference regarding travel advice at present as the advice was to avoid certain areas already

    I wrote this a few days ago;

Let’s assume that we’re all likely to be exposed to the virus, sooner or later. So why should we behave in a way that might hasten that time? We can slow its progress by moving about as little as possible and certainly avoid travelling overseas.

Let’s assume that some of us will become very poorly as a result of catching the virus. I would rather suffer (and even die) in the comfort of my own home than some remote and less familiar place. If you travel to another country, consider the possibility that (no matter how good their facilities might be) you may be disadvantaged by not being sufficiently familiar with their language or conventions. And, if they are unable to cope with local demand, you may become disenfranchised because you are not a fellow citizen.

I therefore suggest that the best course of action is to cancel all long-distance travel until everything is back under control. Do not wait to be told what to do, we are no longer children. No one can see the future, so no one can tell you what's going to happen and about as many are prepared to put their neck on the line. There are few facts, just plenty of opinion. Look after yourself and keep safe.

Looks like certain areas at the moment but if this follows Italy I would imagine the whole country will have restrictions?

Lets' be factual at this moment in time.

The UK has advised against all but essential travel to some regions in Spain

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) against all but essential travel to the regions that the Spanish Ministry of Health have designated as areas of community transmission of coronavirus, as follows: Madrid and La Rioja, and the municipalities of La Bastida and Vitoria (both in the Basque Country) and Miranda de Ebro (in Castilla y León)

Afternoon folks, it's been a while......

So, I reside in the southern Murcia region close to the Andalucean border. Things are moving at a fast pace at present. Yesterday the local town imposed measures restricting anything with the potential to have fifty people or more present, that included bars, restaurants, public events etc. This afternoon we are now on almost total lockdown, only essential travel is permitted. You can go to work, go shopping (hardly worth it as shelves are bare!) and go to appointments etc but that's it. The Guardia Civil have drafted in the army and roadblocks are everywhere. I believe this stems from this morning when some Madridian's came to stay in their holiday home and then decided to fall with the virus. So apart from empty shops, every where is closed, bars restaurants everything. Tomorrow we have all have a meeting with the site owners to discuss what if anything we can do. This site along with many others in the region is closed for new arrivals.

I'll update as and when. Challenging times ahead, just hope we can get back to UK in four weeks!!

Nevertheless you have made a wise decision.

Ask Brittany Ferries to re schedule your tickets and go on another occasion.

Yes, very wise. I think many of us will have altered plans this year whether home or away.

That's quite a bleak picture painted by JK but it’s telling the true state of affairs in that region.

Hi David, sorry to hear your news. Seems to be escalating quickly and maybe you will be giving a sigh of relief before long.

We have decided to hold fire on any bookings at the moment having, in the last two weeks, looked at Flybe flights and a trip to Sicily think it may be third time unlucky!

David, reading JKs report from Murcia must give you some comfort knowing that you'll be making the correct decision to stay. It's probably only a matter of time that a lot more regions in Spain are doing the same. One of the reasons we decided against going.

I’ve decided to kick our May trip into touch and look at August/September unless sites over there hike their prices in the hope of making up for lost revenue.

Sorry to read of more cancelled trips. As TW said we're all affected at home or away. I've got some bookings in late Spring (May) but feel these won't happen now.

All those who arrive to Malta from any country in the world will have to go into mandatory self-quarantine from Friday, Robert Abela has announced.

The prime minister is giving an update on measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus in Malta, which has 12 confirmed cases.

Those who do not observe the two-week quarantine will have to pay €1,000 for every breach and police will carry out spot checks to make sure it is being observed.

"If someone breaches it every day of the quarantine, then they will have to pay €14,000," Abela said. "We will not tolerate people not abiding by quarantine terms."

    Fines and deportation

The stringent measures include removing the work permit of third country nationals or even deportation if they are found not to abide by the rules.

He said that in practice the measure would mean that most tourists would "think twice" about visiting Malta.

My Maltese friend was due to fly out for a family wedding next week, she has a flat there but I doubt whether she'll want to stay in it for two weeks. So looks like another cancelled trip.

Europe is now the "epicentre" of the global coronavirus pandemic, the head of the World Health Organization says.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged countries to use aggressive measures, community mobilisation and social distancing to save lives.

"Do not just let this fire burn," he said.

His comments came as several countries in Europe reported steep rises in the number of infections and deaths. Spain is now the worst affected after Italy.

On Friday, Spain reported a 50% jump in fatalities to 120. Infections increased to 4,200.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says a state of emergency will come into effect there on Saturday for two weeks.

I have just been told by an insurance broker that even passing non stop through these regions ie en route motorway from the ferry, means we won't be insured. Direct Line is not accepting any new travel policies .

glad i booked direct using a kind persons BF club number, but only booked Portsmouth - Caen approx £260 so not too bothered if i lose that but will have to wait until France kicks off before refund possible, return trip is on one of those flexi bookings so no problems, had only booked 1 overnight stay in France €20. If you booked to Bilbao and that is not on the endangered list you may have problems getting any money refunded. undecided
