Any advice from Club on Coronavirus?

The club, as an employer has a duty of care to their employees. Given the wardens are in a customer/public facing role It is possible sites may have to be closed to protect staff.
Possible but not likely in the near future as there are a number of precautions that couls be invoked to mitigate transmission to staff.

I think I read somewhere that they expect 20% of the workforce to be out of action when the virus peaks. Therefore it may be impossible to keep all sites open, even if they wanted to.
Folk could be checked in without leaving there cars. Payments made by phone the day before. There are a lot of possibilities that could be considered.

At work (and in common with many organisations/business) we are scenario testing on 3 staffing levels: 80, 50 and 20% staff availability. How does a site run on 20% or even 50% staffing?
I am not sure how site wardens can cut down on their work, what do they not do? Collect fees on arrival? Stop cleaning toilets? Stop emptying bins? No grass cutting?0 -
I am sure that you can think of many ways yourself JVB I am loathe to subject myself to ridicule, and some wishing to discuss the ins and outs of a ducks bum.
The necessary alterations to procedure could range from none to more extreme. At the extreme end limit arrival times and only man office during these times, close toilet blocks, employ one of the unemployed on a 6 month contract to empty bins and cut grass. If a member of staff contracts the virus and other staff members need to self quarantine then membership cards presented on front door glass and a remote card payment machine outside main office. The options are limitless.

I would think one easy way to reduce workload and manage with fewer staff, would be to run sites only part full. In the case of those that are open all year this would be winter levels. At others, Cirencester for example, not open the grass and the second toilet block. That would reduce a whole area of mowing as the grass could be left to grow. Possibly not even a problem if less folk are wanting to use sites.

You were? That's alright then. There are many doable options and you may list them all if you wish. I could list a number but have no wish to do so for reasons hat I have already given.
The options open will range from do nothing to extreme. Which options to utilise will be a developing range no doubt as the disease gains more of a foot hold

The situation as to grass pitches at the moment, is I would think at this time still closed on most sites ,with even more rain for this weekend, , they are not open at the moment,
,Looking at the graphs last night the uk is following the pattern , that is affecting other countries , with the way it is increasing in infections , only Japan has a lower rate of increase , and is also the one country , it seems, that took draconian measures when it was first spreading out of China, so our peak seems will be around easter if the pattern stayson the same curve

I was looking to the next month or so JVB, as the virus peaks. They normally don't open the grass at Cirencester till about April anyway. Sites like Incleboro Fields, almost all grass but multiple toilet blocks, could just open 1 or 2 and restrict the pitching areas and numbers.

I think the point of the measures being announced today is to try and delay that peak further into the better weather. How successful that is remains to be seen.

I have asked some friends but no replys as yet, with any advise recieved from HO, it seems a wait and see, but they have said, ,all staff will hope that members are more considerate than a lot are normally , if the situation gets really bad

i did suggest maybe reducing occupancy levels to 50 pct much earlier in this post, and as more and more public attractions and festivals close their doors or are being cancelled, then i suspect numbers will be reduced as a consequence of this.
Maybe a more sensible option would be to delay the opening of sites until late June/July, hopefully the dangers of coronavirus will be much less and there might just be a surge in occupancy which would compensate for the lost months.
Sure some measures could be put in place to reduce for example the amount of contact wardens have with campers , and maybe drafting in specialist contract cleaners to clean the blocks, and retaining the wardens for reception gardening duties would be possible, but all this will cost money and if occupancy is not great sites will undoubtedly run at a loss.

Has anybody considered what the local communities might think re having a forever changing population on their doorstep with regards to coronavirus infection. e.g. the club have 2 fairly large sites in the New Forest the nearest village being Brokenhurst, which no doubt benefits quite considerably financially from the 2 sites under normal circumstances , but does this financial benefit outweigh the increased risk of a potential coronavirus outbreak

Whilst many of us look forward to our caravan breaks, how many of these are just holidays and actually essential?
I accept that some bookings are for attendance at family functions such as weddings or anniversary celebrations, or business meetings or appointments in the location. We were due to make our first-of-the-season "test" run in two weeks time before our series of main holiday journeys but I've just cancelled as a precaution and an end to the uncertainty.
The delay in opening sites until June/July might be inconvenient but doesn't seem unreasonable.

Just had notice that an exhibition at the NEC has been postponed until later in the year, new date to be announced later.
I also note cruise companies have back dated their new terms of cancellation to the 1st February and also extended them for crusies booked in 2021.

Yep, tell me about it!
We always avoid crowds as much as possible and the silly season just means there are a few more to avoid. Traftic flow is probably the thing most affected for us and I doubt there's much chance of catching a bug while sat in a jam.

Apologies, this should now be working.

Apart from the cluster in Torbay due to half terms spent in Italy we've avoided the worst of the influx from other areas. But the thought of the Easter rush out of places like London isn't looking good. Hope there'll be plans in place to reduce the impact on holiday areas.
