Any advice from Club on Coronavirus?

I know that there is a thread on this in the Overseas section but that is mainly concerned with travel to infected areas in Europe. The Club controls its UK sites and I wonder whether there has been any advice issued to wardens? What are the risks from the primary contact areas i.e. reception, sanitary blocks and water/waste points, and will anything be published on the website by way of general information or reporting of any cases at specific sites?

Yes, the club have recognised the need for information regarding Coronavirus (mostly about foreign travel just now.) No doubt there'll be further updates for the UK. Anyone interested could follow this LINK in the news section of "What's On" near the log in section at the top of the page. I noticed this yesterday.

Difficult times for the leisure industry in general apart from the fact that it could well effect all of us in one way or another.

I have made no bookings yet for the UK either. I must admit I would be a bit reluctant to use the showerblocks on CMC sites, not because of their cleanliness, but because it is the MOST likely source of contact. And they can only realistically be cleaned once a day. In Wait and see mode at the Moment. We Dont travel to Europe anyway so not feeling limited or aggrieved.

Yes, hadn’t thought of CLs. Easy to “self isolate” on a CL.

With many sites reopening for the season and with a break booked on one of those from the weekend it would be good to hear what measures, if any, the club have in place to mitigate the risks of infection on sites. Also, any plans for coping if members become ill on site, can't move on, need shopping etc. Changing my attitude to our imminent trip frequently, from no way are we cancelling, no reason why we should, to are we being really foolish even contemplating it!

    1. What really can any part of the leisure industry do   , beyond closing  ,    to mitigate the responsibility of us all,     to carry out the advise that has been given ,    and will be upgraded  i would think,  as the virus as is expected,  will spread ,

Absolutely agree that we all have responsibility! But also aware that we may find ourselves needing to help our neighbours or may find ourselves in need of help. Was just wondering what guidance wardens are being given for dealing with what sadly seems to be an inevitable situation.

You are preparing & planning which is far better than the Ostrich way👍🏻. It is our responsibility to ensure our safety. If you fell ill(my course of action would be)-pack up go home to self isolate. Don’t travel too far to ensure your journey home can be done swiftly. Things are fluid at the moment but no one can say there won’t be a lockdown🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s far better to be isolated at home than in some unknown area.

The CMC can reduce potential transmission points on sites by closing block facilities.

And presumably prices. Not going to get many paying £30 plus for no facs.😀

Much the same could be said about large sports events etc. It would not be about protecting the member from making what some might consider a poor decision but protecting others that they might subsequently contact such as family and friends.

Many pay full price and never (or rarely) use the facilities.

Surely if you visit the toilet block when it isn't busy, as we tend to do, the risk is purely down to surfaces. So washing hands etc. both after using the block and getting back to the van, as you will have used the door handle to exit. The same will apply to taps at the service points and the pot wash. It's just about minimising risk as much as you can.

I quite agree,  i think the sink areas could be a bit of a grey area and no problem to use onboard facilities for cleaning teeth etc, but toilets and showers i would prefer to use the block facilities, not much point closing the block facilities if you are going to create a queue at the chemical  disposal point and these could be a real hotspot. But all this said 1/4 million people will attend the  Cheltham festival this week undecided

It might not be about protecting those users who sensibly wash their hands but (more to the point) protecting the public away from sites from those who do not take such precautions ..... and there will be plenty.

I have a friend who uses antiseptic wipes to wipe off trolly handles, also her hands after the till, washes hands on return home after unpacking and then uses the wipes on the bought produce, any coinage is also treated and notes soaked and wiped.  I doubt all will go that far.

I don't know about you but, if somebody is emptying their toilet cassette I will be stood away until they finish laughing. Most people wash hands after emptying also I suspect.

1/4 million people will attend the Cheltenham festival this week

Which I think is stupidity to allow at the point we have reached with regard to transmission

well i have been into some pretty disgusting chemical disposal points, even on club sites, especially those which are not particularly user friendly for the older generation where you have to hump a full cassette up into a stainless steel type trough, but lets not go there, i am sure you get my drift.

Agree re Cheltenham. Was just reading a report from the lock down in Italy, dread to think what the UK will be like if we have similar, and i can see chaos ensuing on club sites if they try to impose a lock down on a particular site, maybe restricting the numbers per site as a starter, but my guess is that numbers will be down anyway.

Italy is a similar size population to UK and, probably, only slightly ahead on the infection curve and recorded 168 related deaths yesterday.

There are areas in UK that have very few cases. We are away at the moment, in a cottage, we are taking routine precautions such as hand washing, anti bio wipes on car door handles, trolley handles etc.... and to be honest having a good time. We have done a couple of small museums, had a coffee in a cafe, done the hand clean thing. We are just enjoying being out in car, seeing sights, picnic in car, stroll with dog, etc..... Keeping well away from cities, public transport, minimal shopping. No different from what we would be doing at home, except I would probably be gardening. I will worry more when I get Mum home, more people, more risks.

If we can, we hope to get out in MH doing similar. Small CLs, own facilities, enjoy the fresh air as much as we can.

Italy is like a third world country in places, huge disparity North and South and dare I suggest all the religious observances may not have helped initially. It is the most worrying place, disproportionately high rate of deaths to cases. Something seems to have gone wrong there sadly.

There are some pretty much third world parts of UK as well however! Because something seems to have gone wrong there it does not mean that things are going well here.

Also the 'social niceties' expected there when meeting, the kiss on the cheek for example for everyone has IHMO certainly spread the virus far quicker.

Also heath care is variable and the more you can afford the better it is, leaving those less well off to perhaps not have their heath monitored as closely as here.
