CAMC 10amp Electric?

well perhaps if the electricity prices were doubled overnight then indeed there would be a significant change of habits, but for the amounts discussed here no.

this site is well known and i believe the club recommend it, have visited but not stayed, good site but as i think i have said before too much like Brits abroad, but each to their own, what they do is keep the winter costs fairly low and "pack em in", i wonder if you would like to disclose BB how much they charge during peak season. ??? when i think most of the Brits, Germans, Dutch have headed home

That was the one that I referred to. I was covering 200 miles a week travelling home to our new mobile home on mid day Friday, back late Sunday night to college and keeping other journeys to 40 miles a week. My income was provided by a bank loan whilst 6 months at college and working 6 months and so money was tight. My biggest problem was getting a full tank. Petrol stations were limiting to 2 gallons near to home and college and some were, for a while, only serving regulars around me in Leeds.

It's all a question scale so your example is not really relevant. A small independent site may well want to invest and be prepared to recover those cost over a longer time period. The economics of running a network of 200 sites is a totally different proposition especially if the Club wanted to change the entire network over relatively short period.
For me personally, in terms of site costs, I have said before that when the price of sites becomes a problem for us personally we will either curtail our activity or give up altogether.

I appreciate you got your answer as the situation presents itself at this moment in time. However it is not unknown for the Club to change things out of the blue at a time of their convenience and when they have previously said the opposite. The use of energy on campsites is clearly an important issue for the Club. You never know but our musings here might actually help the Club in its deliberations, who knows.

indeed, i am often over there April thru mid June and yes prices are quite reasonable €14 - €20 per night with some lecce thrown in but the site i use the most (on the beach) is in excess of €50 per night during peak, my German friends always leave the site mid June and return end of Sept simply because it is too expensive, they leave their caravan in storage close by. I think the site mentioned is Bonterra Park, fairly big site and i think it will be very expensive during peak times, i seem to recall it has a swimming pool , restaurant etc.

Very true, from what i have seen you cannot compare Spanish sites with UK sites, most have metered electricity most have reception staff, cleaners for public spaces, gardeners etc, but if you think our wardens are on low pay, check out what the Spanish are paid, and most of the Spanish Costa sites are full 24x7x365, and are independants probably family owned and run.

ok if you want to be pedantic 24x7x342, unlike a majority of the club sites which are closed for 4 months of the year, and lets face it some of the sites you have stayed on the owners would have to pay me to stay, but as i said each to their own

I think that the minimum wage increased by 22% last year to 900 Euro a month.

And the day/night temps ?when you are on your long stay holidays ,compared to what you would normally expect in this country for the same periods or winter months?
Ps I take it when you are at your UK address , the electricity use is about the same,? and as cheap

It is similar to most of the comercial sites in the UK that find it cheaper to stay open all year than to close it all down, so they tend to charge loss leader prices to attract some income, (£16 per night on a super pitch when we go in November,)then in peak it is £90 for the same pitch (min 2 and 3 nights)

you sure it wasnt 24 times and 600 nights, if you are worried about it being cold and having to put the heat on, and purchasing gas connectors so you can use your gas heater, it would imply you are not as seasoned an over there camper as you make out, today it is 24 degs in Santa Barbara, and as i said, some of the sites you appear to stay they would have to pay me to stay so no wonder they are not full

and that is where things are different certainly in Spain, yes you may be limited to 6 people per pitch but within the confines of your pitch you can erect whatever you like within reason, lots of campers erect, cooking shelters have large awnings used as sleeping areas. some erect barriers round the whole peremiter of the pitch to give privacy, and of course it is not unusual to have huge paella parties in the middle of the road, and some Spanish familes pitch up mid June and dont leave until end of August and they dont care about electricity use, some have air conditioning condensers in the front locker to run aircon in the van, nose weight, they say, never heard of it .

looks expensive to me £90?, Fresh Water Beach Dorset mid August 2 adults x 4 children x 1 dog x 7mtr caravan £61, ok that is main field with electric only, but they have indoor/outdoor pools entertainment for kids etc and it is right on the beach

...and they dont care about electricity use ...some have air conditioning condensers ...
I found it interesting that in another thread somebody was asking for recommendations about air conditioners for hot climates and quite a few answered.
So really one is simple replacing using electricity for heating for AC.

really, I've seen most about 5 - 6? Even at 4 doesn't leave much for anything else though even at 4. Some under bench ones go up to 2.7 Kw I've noticed.
Btw as you're against awning heaters I thought you would be against AC too?

yes modern split units but i bet some of the old ones used in Spain are more and when you consider they are running maybe 12+ hrs per day it is a lot of electricity, but as said previously, most spanish sites are metered so they know exactly how much they are spending.
