Have CAMC over priced some sites

it was a use of English/grammar type of mistake AD, very common but I am ashamed to have made it hence the post edit admission.
When you come back, could you say what needs to be added to club site to make them 'full fat'? Or what would need to be added to justify their 'high prices'

Island🤔, I think we both know this sceptred isle is the only one for me👍🏻😊

I’m sure it does Micky. We have few doubts about who we might find on Club Sites. Outside of school holiday periods that is, as we rarely use them in school holidays. Life tends to be more variable when using CLs and small private sites. We tend to like variety. The outfits are usually more interesting.

I think you are right, during school holidays full of families who get better value (especially on sites with kids for a £1) then off peak it is another set of members

What's that? The "Lidl keeps the riff raff out of Waitrose" principle.

York Marina was a 10 pitch CL about 3 years back or perhaps 4, I posted about the cost of it, I think £22 a night, proving CL's charge what they think they can.
Anyway
The other unique to the Club pricing structure, again this is from my previous time, the fire gap, remember? The club realised they didnt complie and turned a load of pitches into none awning. But uniquely didnt and dont charge less for them, but at the same time moan about electric usage. Why relevant, because the site owners I know, make awning charges because usually that means higher electric consumption.
So taking what people are saying re a site price limit, the posts about how folk feel left behind, wouldnt it help those wanting to use sites if the awning, none awning pitches had a price re adjustments? Which could/would reduce the none awning to within scope for some, an incentive to use CMC sites, no loss of revenue, but increased site occupancy for those quick off the booking mark?

You know perfectly well that I am not saying that at all and I fail to understand why you should reply in such a hostile way!
But the fact remains that the club is unlikely to be swayed by you saying you'd like lower prices when you are only going to be using them for 1 night a year.

Excellent post - I don't suppose there are many who consider price first, then location, but there are undoubtedly some and I can never understand why. We don't tour very much in school holidays any more, but even then location comes first before site choice - we were on a small Forest of Dean site last week at £14 a night and wouldn't have considered club or commercial alternatives.
Out of peak season we will look to see if there's a decent CL first. But we are quite happy at those times to use club sites which rarely work out more expensive for us than comparable sites.
I've given an example earlier in the thread, though, where even at October half term Chatsworth would work out cheaper than a nearby commercial site. People just need to do a bit of research before choosing which site to use.

I don't know that particular CL or what its facilities are, W. The most we have ever paid for a CL was £20 a night all inclusive (toilet /shower, serviced HS pitch, awning, 2 dogs and wifi) - oh, and views to die for!
Both the nearby alternatives were a lot more expensive. I'm not sure exactly what you mean about CLs charging "what they think they can". My guess is that many of the best could charge considerably more and still attract sufficient custom.

is there such a thing as a 10 pitch CL?

A point another poster was trying to make. I was showing a variation of prices charged by CL's, rather than always within a set band.

Back before yes.
I posted about years back, our love of York and the area we found it via the clubs website, its looking like it's gone solo now though. No date on the link but it says first year so old.

It had some sort of link to CC years ago, but I doubt it could ever be thought of as a CL. Not with 10 pitches. If you want something different, and enjoy watching river traffic, or fancy hiring a boat, then I would say it’s not bad value for money to be honest. Further out of York than YRP, but a whole lot preferable to YBG.
If this is your only (somewhat doubtful) experience of CLs W&M, you need to try a few more before condemning them on the basis of charging what they like. York Marina campsite is more like a specialist small private site, very different to most CLs. A true waterside CL is Durham Rowing Club, just the five pitches. Not sure on prices this year, but probably nothing like York Marina, and an easy riverside stroll into Durham.
Edit: it’s half the price of York Marina, but facilities not comparable.

You mis understand, I'm not condemning them, I would like to actually use CL's, I was replying to another poster trying, as usual, to point score, I'm used to it!
I like the idea of low occupancy, keeps the noise down. My issue as is with main sites, access roads, so any CL recommendations, easy drive to, electric and a bog, thats all I require, gladly looked into.
Still in the should I rejoin the club next year phase, 60% probability, need a bigger number.

What is preventing you using more CLs W&M? I think if you did some good research, you will find a lot to suit, and that definitely ups the shall I rejoin probability.
There’s lots of nice CLs with loos nowadays. Ask away for a particular area, if we can’t oblige, Nellie or one or two others will come up with something. It’s the CL network that keeps us rejoining year after year. We do a few Club Sites, mainly the no facility ones, or others during Winter months.
Booked into Lower Wensleydale for UCI Championships next month. Only £20 per night, just where we need to be for Road Races. We did find a nicer site, but already booked, it’s going to be heaving with cycle lovers, LW will suit us fine, has all we need and a quiet location, close to Leyburn.
1 -
yes but you said 3 or 4 years? CLs have been 5 pitch max for much longer

On club sites, would you use CMC facilities sites if the non awning pitches where under a certain price?
Curious.

I think what they where doing was splitting their site, so as to gain the advertising on the CC web and attract trade.
We rocked up after booking details taken from CC, asked if members, told to pick any pitch 1 to 10. Took a riverside view, if I can nudge your memory I posted a picture taken from the site of an amphibious car sailing along the river Ouse.
Remember?

I believe the Act was dated 1960.

There are Club Sites with only none awning pitches, Old Hartley for one. It’s a great location, we often start a Northumberland tour here. It’s not about with or without awning for us, even if we use our van rather than MH. We don’t particularly need an awning, even in our tiny van. We travel light, like to sit outside, can’t be bothered with the fuss of an awning if staying less than two weeks. We do book awning pitches though, to get a bit more space. The Club won’t reduce price of none awning pitches, it’s more likely to up the price of those where you can put up an awning. Which is more likely to mean we won’t use Club Sites unless we are attending an event close by. Given the pitch prices, plus adult prices, charging extra for this and that is another nail in Club Site usage for us.
The overall price is where we calculate our value, if a CL offers us a pitch for £10 + £1.50 to put up an awning, then it’s still better value than paying £20-30 for the choice at a Club Site, all other things considered. Not having to be tied to using loos and showers, or at times having to have a HS pitch or hook up, gives us a much wider choice of usage.

I think what you are describing is a CL with a small commercial site adjacent, not uncommon. Technically, it’s debatable which area of the site should use the loos, but as it’s now gone private, who cares?

If the club was pressured into acting more like a club, they may reduce the cost of awning pitches to maybe bring the price down to those who have an upper limit.
It saddening to me that after people have been loyal members, or have lower disposable incomes that the club just marches on collecting coinage, and if you cant pay, your, in my eyes, evicted.
Has to be wrong. Border line exploitation.

or have lower disposable incomes
make the club a charity for those that can't afford it? Well interesting, are you suggesting a pitch fee based on your disposable income?
I am going to try that with flights, hotels...
Rocky - do you still have that advert for the MoHo poor?

"It saddening to me that after people have been loyal members, or have lower disposable incomes that the club just marches on collecting coinage, and if you cant pay, your, in my eyes, evicted."
I think that over dramatises the situation, to be honest, W. What I observe, on the forum anyway, is a few folk saying they choose not to pay site fees which they consider too expensive (very sensible too! ). That is altogether different front not being able to pay them - nothing like being "evicted".
2 -
Not really.
Does a member have any control over the price rises?
So what was affordable x years ago, becomes unaffordable, but in the interim members pay the ever increasing asking price, but the club, doesnt price structure to take into account all members circumstances.
I've rejoined, I know the price, I have no come back. But its named Club. What about loyalties being a two way thing?
PROFIT IS NOT A HIGH SCORE.
