I think it's an excellent idea .

That's the problem TW, local communities invest in camp sites and just driving round looking for free overnight stops on someone's land is not what locals want. There are so many campsites available why not put something back rather than demand from the club or anyone else that you can just use a facility in order to free camp on owned land?
Due to the popularity of places like the NC500 there is a basic problem with up keep and facilities (including infrastructure like roads) that need to be paid for by someone, but obviously not the free campers.
I've no idea how much free camping goes on, some might be permitted but the general rule in Scotland for free camping is tents only, leave no mark.
Here's an example of what's available, why not use it?

If the wild campers, as opposed to motorhomers and tourers in general bring much wealth to local communities then let those communities provide. The truth is that holiday makers in general bring profit but I wonder hat profits the wild campers bring as a separate set?

Most camp sites offer this service, and it would be nice to be able to get it from a club that I pay to be a member with.
i may may be wrong but I thought Juliette was point out that most sites (abroad) provide a drive through dump waste service at around €2 which alleviates the 'where do I.....? question regarding toilet waste etc..
the other main difference is the ergonomic set up where MHSPs are inevitibly at/near the entrance and there is no extra site impact with additional users of. the facility.
a contrast to the CC who seem obsessed with having their MHSP somewhere in the middle of the site often in a protracted one way system...Hillhead a classic example of how much extra driving (and congestion) this adds.

no, I'm looking for some 'I've don't it' evidence from the posters jousting with the OP.
shes trying hard to explain the situation from her experience of not seeing caravans wild camping yet giving responses as if they are regulars at it....as you do (despite being a mH er)
my point is, where is the first hand knowledge to support what you say...
ie, the impact on the countryside or on sites re congestion etc.
Of course Juliette has a significant advantage in haveing seen and used sites elsewhere where this sort of service is second nature. unfortunately, (she will soon learn) quoting valid examples as she has done only leads to the 'well that's not valid here' redline....(topical).

We already have one in the Seaview Hotel Fishguard, where for the price of a meal in the restaraunt you can stay for 24 hours fill up with water and dump your cassette (its a Brit Stop).
So no need to bother the hard pressed local Council ,who are finding it hard to even keep open much needed local public toilets.

You don't half talk rot about the relevance of the experience of wild campers BB. The simple fact that is irrelevant when suggesting that there is a general desire amongst those members of CC that are regular site users to wish provision for wild campers on CC sites. The ones most likely to want such provision are those that do not want to pay typical site charges in the first place and therefore hardly a group that I have a desire to see dump provisions made on CC sites. As I have said before 'if there was seen to be an economic business model in such provision why are such provisions not springing up ...... or are they?
The negative responses from 'caravanners' and motorhomers who you suggest have no experience is simply that they have no wish to promote wild camping even if they may wild camp on the odd occasion themselves. If I used a motorhome and particularly a small camper I might, if on my own particularly, stop occasionally alongside a loch or coast. If necessary I would have no problem disposing sensibly of waste nor getting water and if I wild camped more frequently and found waste and water management a problem then I would use a main site to intersperse such stops.

Ah, but it only works for those on site JVB. The site apparently should see it reasonable to rejig the provision to enable all to use dump facilities at nominal cost (even if they need to pay £50 to permit annual access) to provide for wild campers do beloved by all in the area.

I never mentioned the word 'Village' I said Rural Area, Fishguard is not much more than a village these days, but officially its a town.
Our local Brit Stop works fine, and although we are a Ferry Port for Southern Ireland, we are not overrun with Motorhomes, plenty of Wild Camping spots and plenty of Campsites for longer stays.
Why are folk so argumentitive on these threads ?
Caravanning and Motorhoming is meant to be fun.
Visitors DO spend locally as the nearest Big Supermarkets are 20 miles away.

and the last time you wild camped in a my was when?....

but for half of the users to empty upon leaving the site, they have to drive down and around the bottom one way system, back up past the entrance and round to the MHSP, then back round the one way system to the entrance....or it was last time we used it....
if that doesn't add to congestion and 'circulating traffic' I don't know what does.

It’s the club you need to convince, Juliette, and they have already said they don’t intend to do it. Increased traffic on site, congestion at MHSPs, and being seen to support wild camping were, I think, a few of the reasons.
TW, Is this still the Club's stance? It was a past chairman (Bob Black) who made a public statement to the effect it would incourage wild camping and the Club had no intention of encouraging this. Since then we have a new motorhome owning Chairman and the Club has changed its name in an effort to be more inclusive. Have I missed a more recent announcement?

I don't have a probem with that as long a s they do as they have done in the Trossachs National Park and and in Spain and provide overnight facilcities for Motorhomes. It is only in recent years Spain has started providing Aires after pressure from a motorhome owning group.

despite not having 'waste facilities' in any of them I didn't see anybody abusing their surroundings as some suggest...in fact I've never seen such behaviour...
and neither have I in 30 years of touring. Of course some might be very discret about it?
