Member Offer: My Esso Card

Look upon it as having had a lucky escape, Stu. You could have been debited twice for all that fuel.

Eventually contacted by Pump King. It appears that the erroneous transaction was when we used the card at the beginning of December and was the first transaction for £84. The transaction went through okay a few days later.
However apparently last week they tried to take the same payment again, but there were insufficient funds although the funds were there for an amount a lot less than £84 and for the transaction last Wednesday. The bank refused the payment so the threatening email was generated.
I asked what would have happened if the bank had honoured the amount and caused us to have an unauthorised overdraft incurring charges. I could not get an answer!
I am not sure if the hassle is worth the small savings of about £10 a month? Other months it will be a lot less if we do not go away.

Since February 2018 I have used just over 1000 ltrs of diesel. If the saving is a constant £0.06 per ltr (which I doubt) then I would have saved about £60 at Esso prices. A nice saving BUT if any transaction goes through twice or more times it is a question of whether the hassle of having to recover a payment, typically £40 to £50 per time, is actually worth it. The discount is only £0.02 when compared with our local Sainsburys where I usually fill up. This equates to only a £20 saving over almost a year.
I've got the card now and have used it once but I'm now wondering if I will actually use it again.

I have been trying to contact PumpKing for two days and I have been told on two occasions they will call back! I'm still waiting. I was also advised to email my query, I've also done this, with the same result, still no response. I'm not sure if I trust these people and I think I will send my card back.

I use about the same as you John and whilst I could use an ESSO garage on my shopping route instead of ASDA the saving would be about £20 at most as I get about 1.25p back per litre on my ASDA CC when I fill at ASDA ........ however as the lions share of my purchases would be on holiday when I would be more likely to use a supermarket fuel station or other in passing I doubt that I would achieve that.

Thank everyone for your comments. It’s great to hear that the refunds are starting to come though. Please be assured, anyone who has been affected will be refunded. If anyone has incurred additional charges directly as a result of this error please direct message us and we will investigate on your behalf. We are taking this situation very seriously and would like to assure you that no member will be adversely affected by this.
For updates and queries on refunds please email PK Fuel Limited accounts@myessocard.com
We are aware that many members are still awaiting cards. As mentioned in my preivous post, the My Esso Card has been very popular with members and PK Fuel Limited has been overwhelmed with tens of thousands of applications. We are working very closely with PK Fuel Limited to ensure they clear the backlog of cards, with a large batch going out this week, and apologise sincerely for the delay.

Surely, Ro, refunds shouldn't be necessary in the first place. It seems to be a bit of a shambles. Whilst the card has only just been launched by CaMC has it not been out via other organisations for some time? If so, how long does it take to get their house in order?
I was told by one of your colleagues that I needed to re-apply for the card. I was one of the early appliers. This I did but couldn't use my personal email address on the second application as it "had already been used".I had to use my wife's instead. I hope that this doesn't result in duplicated charges and where is the £5.00 credit that I was offered for my inconvenience?

When I phoned them today they took five attempts before they answered. Interestingly when it rang out for a while it got transferred to an international dialling tone and then the call ended.
The people in London are just a contact centre and all they would do is pass on my message.
Pump King are a new company. Haven't been around for a year yet.

Those poor tens of thousands of people still waiting have no idea what they are getting themselves into as they are probably not on this forum. The forum probably represents a tiny fraction of all those that applied and also only a tint fraction of the overall number of complaints regarding this Esso card.
It seems that there is only one person called James in the call centre and he has the onerous task of phoning every one. When he phoned me yesterday on my mobile as the call was breaking up I asked for him to phone me back on my landline number. He agreed and I am still waiting!
At a guess I would say that the prize draw of 75 litres of fuel for 10 winners probably will not happen and you may find that you are charged for the 75 litres!
BTW am I correct in thinking that the company is based at Rennweg 39, 5303 Würenlingen, Switzerland and has a UK website? As Switzerland is outside the EU this may complicate issues if something goes wrong?
Excuse the sarcasm, but this company leaves a lot to be desired!

Lets be fair. I did phone the number given a couple of weeks ago and spoke to a young sounding woman who told me she could not help but would get her boss to phone me. That very evening around 8pm I got a call from a male (who did tell me his name but I've not noted it down) who explained much the same story as already covered in the thread.
A major point was that they did not make the cards themselves. The customer information was put on the cards by a outside company that was contracted to do it. The ESSO card people sent them applicant data and the card maker sent them in return blocks of completed cards, though the cards were not coming back in the same sequence as the data had been sent. All he could say was that the ESSO people were always sending out all the cards they got in.
The discount deal had been offered to a number of organisations' members at the same time so not all being process were Caravan Club; he mentioned "The Blue Light Club" as another.
He told me the prize draw was now extended to the end of January. Not that it will cost them anything more than had it been December.

Still no card (no longer surprised) and not sure I am bothered any longer.
The whole thing strikes me as the biggest debacle the club has had since the chairman ripped the r send off his van on COTY.

Probably, or attempting to organise the party in the brewery.

My experience of emailing accounts@myessocard.com is not at all positive. I have emailed a question about my card on two occasions and have not received a reply. I'm sorry to say, I think this scheme has not been organised very well and does not look very professional. I will be returning my card, unused to a very amateur organisation.

Why can't we edit a previous post as all I needed was the last line of the quoted post?
No one has informed us that the prize draw has now been extended to end of January and this is the first I have heard of the date being changed. We applied early due to this incentive and I am now wondering if it has contravened any regulations surrounding competitions? Will it be changed again and again until we have forgotten about it?
Also makes me wonder if the prize draw was only for C C members or for all the other organisations whose members also applied for the card?

You can just "copy & paste" if all you want is part of a previous post, Surfer.
Avoids the possibility of some unscrupulous so-and-so "editting" a post to suit their needs - not that I'm suggesting for a moment that CT members would stoop to such a level!

My card arrived today ( applied 18/12/18). Interestingly the post mark on the letter is " Tyneside NE/SR Mail Centre".
The question is dare I use it after reading this forum.
I see this particular discussion has only had 30 viewers. I wonder how all the other thousands of claimed applicants are progressing

"I think this scheme has not been organised very well and does not look very professional. I will be returning my card, unused to a very amateur organisation"
Agreed but this could be a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Returning your card will not necessarily mean they will erase all your debit card details, so you still could be vunerable to a scam etc,i have a card also which I have used twice with no problems, except not receiving email to inform me of the transactions, but you can go online at esso card and see your transactions, you must have thought this card could save you money so why not wait until all the fuss has died down and then try it out. I suspect the demand for this card was far greater than anyone imagined hence thousands of applicants hitting a system that was not geared up for so many. I saved £10 on 2 fill ups, esso card v shell my nearest garage, esso garage is 1.5 miles further away.

Take no notice of that. The figures are rubbish.

That this issue has generated 400 posts is clear indication that it has been a fiasco dwarfed only by that other one, Bre.. something or other.

Caravan Talk has a forum discussing the same :-

Just in case anyone is interested.

It’s pretty much the same as here in view of the posters being much the same people.

My card arrived today ( applied 18/12/18). Interestingly the post mark on the letter is " Tyneside NE/SR Mail Centre".I've taken a chance and put 20.5 ltrs of diesel into my car today and paid using the card.
The pump price as shown on the receipt is £29.68 ( £1.319 per ltr ).
As I understand it I should be charged £27.79 ( £1.235 per ltr )
I'll update what occurs.
