Pricing in the directory and online

I usually request a printed copy of the 'Great Savings Guide' because I find that checking on the net a pita
I do as well ET for the same reason. However, if they published it in PDF form, as with the price list, enabling it to be saved and used off line, I would not bother to request one.

The absence of detailed pricing presupposes the availability of a computer and internet access. Even members who are not devotees of the church of the latter day Luddites may not take internet accessible equipment with them when they tour. Availability of an internet connection when touring is, as we all know, a matter of some uncertainty. All these factors demonstrate that a hard copy price list is essential. That CAMC has gone down this route is blatant obscurantism.

As a follow on to my previous post, I joined "the other lot" earlier this year on the discounted paperless subscription. To be honest I find it a bit tedious in the absence of being able to browse a Handbook of sites.

So true. Those who are being dismissive and derisive of the folk who choose not to use computers aren’t showing much goodwill at all.

The handbook and map are sent out to everyone. A detailed price list is available on request, as I assume will be any future updates. Putting detailed pricing in a two year handbook was never particularly sensible. Even less so if we continue to get these top up price rises.
How does this disadvantage anyone who chooses not to take any IT on their tour. Presumably they take the site directory, along with the latest price list, supplied by the club on request.

I think it is the minority of people who think that the world should revolve around their ideas that need looking into rather than the majority who accept that"technology" has more problems than the minority would like to admit, hence the need to as most companies have found keep paper records

It's not if you have opted out of receiving it. Plus why publish another 20 pages thousands of times, which most don't really require. A simple phone call gets one sent out if required. Unlike the magazine I don't suppose the price list is cost neutral.

That would probably be a more cost effective way of doing it rather than send the price list separately to everyone. A possible problem is the number of people who give the impression that they throw the magazine away without reading it although I imagine someone that choices not to use the internet might be more likely to treat the magazine as something more important. If Club sites where given a rating like A,B,C,D sites where all A rated sites were the same price the rating could be included in the directory and the resultant price list would be much simpler as it would only contain four sets of prices and would be an easy cross reference to between price list and directory.

If the directory and map are being sent to everyone, what could be simpler than including the price list? That would at least take care of one year's edition.

Any club info I get comes from the forum principally. Many years since I opened a magazine and well before the advent of the forum

I would love to comment but mine as yet to arrive.

I find the way club site prices are 'Bill boarded' on the front page lack clarity. Only when you start adding all the information required does the actual price per night appear. Comparing to 'commercial' site rates with better facilities that I have used (and still use) in the same location, the rates are more or less the same give or take a few pounds, making the so called 'Members Discount' a bit of a nonsense!
I am also finding that unavailability at weekends effectively prevents booking some club sites when trying to book a week away, this must at worst be costing the club some significant financial loss or at best a nightmare filling mid week slots!

I contacted them requesting a copy and this is the response I received...
"Thank you for your email. The 2019 UK Site Guide is not available to order until the new year".
So they are not sending them out, as of yet anyway!!

That's much too simple for the club to do. They want to keep it as complicated as possible so that members have no idea of the actual prices that they are charging across the sites.

Now't changes does it?

At least you had a reply to your email, Nellie!! Goodness knows where mine has ended up.
Can't understand why some members think that just because you like to look at some paper documents that you are considered a luddite. Do they never consult a paper map? Never carry "paper" money? Only ever get their news etc from internet? I may well download the price guide as a pdf but I still like to handle a paper document.
