we've been there several times, since they first opened the touring park, and have had many conversations with staff as the site has grown.

firstly they've only been open for touring for about five years, hence the very modern facilities. the theme park has been there for much longer and which has a 'season' of its own. the park has always been the main attraction.

in the beginning, their touring season coincided with that of the theme park, closing end October but, as they do have an all year round touring facility, they are looking at extending the touring season.

the original intention wasn't to necessarily become a touring park, merely to supplement the lodges, glamping etc with accommodation for MH/caravans (again based on the park as the main draw...) but the touring has done well.

the site is very often full in season as folk now use it, not only as a cheaper way of staying close to the theme park but also as a touring park (close to exmouth) in its own right.

like a lot of commercials, it won't be for many on CT, but we like it, the GD loves it, the staff are terrific, it's flexible, clean, modern and good value.

its also one of the places where larger families can get together, some using campers, some tents, some the bungalows etc....

a young facility but one we have handily and like to use from time to time...for a particular purpose

It probably varies from site to site and probably time of year. We have booked Longleat for next May. In the 2018 pricing supplement the club published, the nightly price for two adults was £24.30. After the latest rise the web site is showing the same nights at £25.90, an increase of 6.6%. Yes a definitive answer on what the overall rise is for the group would be nice. However, I suspect it is as likely as a clear answer on deposits.

Interesting, that may be acceptable, one deposit per tour which included consecutive nights on different club sites.

Should minimum nights stay ever be considered (heaven forbid) that too could include consecutive nights on any club site on the network. So three consecutive nights on three different sites would be okay if 3 nights were the minimum. The two ideas could work in partnership, that pill would not be so difficult to swallow but still difficult enough non the less.

If deposits are to be introduced, how would it be done?

Would it be for all new bookings from say next April. In which case I would end up with some bookings, which I have already made, with no deposit and future bookings with a deposit. What if you amended an existing booking, would it then require a deposit to be paid? As you could make new bookings before existing ones, this might lead to a degree of confusion.

Personally if deposits are to be brought in I would favour from a date that cannot be currently booked. This would avoid any potential confusion, over wether a deposit had been paid or not. However, it would mean the club could not introduce them for booking dates before February 2020 at the earliest.

Perhaps WTG's suggestion of one deposit per group of sites booking could be covered by my suggestion of a deposited bond of say one or two nights site fees or even credit card details held on record. Either would only be used if a member did not meet their commitment to honour a booking in any as yet to be defined time limits. The Club does not have to go down the route of a deposit for every booking. The problem is none of us know where this idea of deposits is coming from and what has changed. Reading some of the Facebook groups you get the impression that people are having a booking fest with the new rolling system just because they can and some are already having to cancel bookings because of work commitments unknown at the time. At the end of the day I am sure the Club will go for the least complicated method even if that means two transactions for every booking, deposit + balance. Interesting that a few years ago we were told this would add considerable costs to the Club because of transaction fees! As to a start time I imagine that would be from the date the decision was enacted but perhaps would only include new bookings from that date so in effect it could take a year to change over completely to the new system?

or as I suggested one per year? held by the club when you cancel late you lose it and have to pay again?

What about a sort of no claim bonus system? Never cancelled late never pay a deposit? Extend the cancellation period?

It shouldn't make a lot of difference to the site in question as it is open all year for occupation of the lodges & Glamping tents on it.

I have not done it so I am not sure but surely if you book a ferry and insurance to go to Europe the Club have some system of online payment, usually a deposit? If that is the case they will just carry the same or similar system over to UK site bookings. What would be chaotic would be to demand retrospective deposits on existing bookings!!!

Don't see why that would make a difference, you still have to heat facility blocks and the lodges etc.

    Hi

You'll notice on this forum that some posters like a wind up. Maybe the warden mentioned in the op is of a similar character and also enjoys a wind up at the op's expense?

A warden with a sense of humour ....................... Now why didn't I think of that? Do you think that Ro is in on the joke and wants to keep the members guessing laughing

You are correct....booking both ferries and oversea sites bring up a simple form to complete with your requests followed by a secure payment page. There is also the option to pay full amount or a deposit...

Why are people comparing deposits with hotels and other such commercial enterprises ?

This is a club with members, which we pay a membership fee for - itself a type of deposit.

I like the flexibility and ease of booking that we currently enjoy (over non CCC sites), but might be open to a further deposit if we get something extra, such as reserving specific pitch numbers.
