Seems a strange move to me given that had it not been for the reliability of Renault engines Red Bull would have been in the mix for the Constructors Championship at least! The guys at Red Bull were shocked, particularly as it seems a backward move. I suspect it was down to money and an unwillingness to match the pay of Max despite Daniel having more points this season and last. I suppose it feasible that Renault hope to have significant improvements for next year and want a driver who will be in the mix rather than mid table. Renault have won championships in the past. Another thing in the mix is the complete breakdown of the relationship between Renault and Red Bull over the last couple of years, perhaps Renault see this as getting their own back!!! He is a likeable chap so I hope he does well.

RBR are third in the championship with Renault one place behind. As a racing team are in their 3 year.  There is no doubt that Renault have ambition and I suspect RBR/Honda will struggle for a couple of years. Although RBR probably currently have the best areo package with future rule changes that could/may change.  With the Hulk and Daniel I’m sure point scoring will raise significantly

Renault might be one place behind but that 4th place is a long way back from 3rd. Currently Red Bull are on 223 points and Renault on 82 points which is only 16 points ahead of Haas. So even with Daniel they have a long way to climb. The is no doubt that the Renault engine is good when it's reliable but reliability is the big question mark. What will be even more interesting is how the Honda engine does. There have been some encouraging signs from the Toro Rosso especially Pierre Gasly and it will be interesting to see if he steps up to the senior team next year?

Kimi, he gives the impression that he could walk away at any moment

he has had a test drive in the Toyota world rally car ,so he could go there

Forgot about Kimi, if he left as well it could open up the driver market!

Looks like Kimi will sign a 2 year contract with Ferrari  very shortly.  He has driven pretty well this year

I just wish Aston Martin would produce a world-beating engine and stick it in a Williams

I think it's very difficult to become a new player in F1 engines. The list of companies that have pulled of of this sector is quite long with a lot of famous names. Even Cosworth no longer produce F1 engines prefering to concentrate of the USA series. There have been rumours for years that the VW group might be interested but nothing has come of it.  Poor Williams seem to have lost their way. Perhaps time for the family have a bit more distance from the day to day running?

You could be right David but I also believe they need an experienced older driver who can act in a development role as well.

Thought Riccardo had signed for Renault for the next couple of years and surely AM are in partnership with RBR.

So, Alonso and Riccardo to be replaced by Sainz and Gasly respectively, at the end of the season. My money is on LeClerc for a 'big named seat' in the not too distant.

Apart from a spectacular bit of mayhem on the first corner, a rather boring race.

Agree Cyber and it seems to becoming a regular occurrence. The only interesting part of many races this season seems to have been the first 10 minutes-then yawnsville til the chequered flag 🏁

It was however technically intriguing how Ferrari have contrived to inject so much more "go" into their car?

With the start of the new hybrid engines Mercedes were at. least 1.5 to 2 seconds ahead of all the other teams.  In the last 4 years the other teams have gradually been catching up.  RBR has by far the best chassis and aero package but probably the least powerful engine and they are about 3 tenths behind.  Ferrari have now got the horsepower but have probably got better areo. If people think Ferrari are cheating why not come out and say.

Ross Brawn didn’t cheat with the double diffuser his team just came up with a different solution.  The FIA eventually banned it as not being in the spirit of the regulations which is not cheating. Innovation has always happened in F1 and long may that continue.

I didn't know Ferrari had been accused of cheating? Seems they spent the summer break in the garage rather than on the beaches! Well done to them. Let's see how long before the others catch up (well, Mercedes at least)

F1 developing into a two-horse race again and frankly it's boring. The only real excitement has been on the odd occasion RBR has managed to get involved on the podium. If they ditch the British & German GP's I shall not bother taking any further interest, especially if they keep the same funding system in place.

Why did Mercedes protest earlier in the year about twin batteries and in Spa Hamilton referred to some trick things on the Ferrari

I don't know One, perhaps it was sour grapes on Hamilton's part? He's very prone to whinging as we all know. Rattles, throw and pram come to mind?!

I was expecting a boring race dominated by the faster Ferrari's. What a surprise.

Interesting to hear Nico Rosberg's take on the first lap 'racing incident' between Hamilton and Vettel (some might argue he was biased towards Mercedes?) and I have to agree-Lewis did leave enough room. Raikkonen was unlucky with his tyres and yet again, Max showed his immaturity. Great drive by Vettel to finish fourth, but his mistakes are proving costly

Well summed up Jon although I haven’t seen it yet.  Think Farerri need to consider running order in qualifying. I’m pretty sure if Vettel had been on pole he would have scampered away.
