Dogs and Touring
We often get posts about dogs on sites. As such we are creating this one discussion for people to post. This discussion can include anything from pictures of your dog/dogs enjoying their holidays and recommendations of good dog walks near Club or CL Sites, to your feedback regarding dogs on Club Sites.
Paws for thought...However, we ask that no posts are made that may cause upset, are antagonistic, argumentative or offensive as some discussions on dogs have become very heated in the past. Any such posts will be removed and it may affect your access to Club Together as per the Community Guidelines. Difference of opinion is always welcome and to be expected but posts must always be constructive and respectful of other’s views in order to keep Club Together the friendly and informative forum we want it to be.
Please also do not use this discussion as a means of complaint. If you have had a bad experience with a dog/dogs on a Club or CL site we want to hear from you and would really appreciate it if you could contact the Club directly so we can investigate this further by either calling 01342 327 490 or emailing UKSitesBookingService@camc.com

I'll start the ball rolling with a recommendation for a great little CL we stayed at recently. It's called Woodville and is at Pontesford near Shrewsbury. I won't repeat here what I've already written in my review. But just to say it's a very dog friendly place - the owners have their own 9 month old black lab puppy and there are several walks to be had direct from the site based around the nearby disused railway line so largely traffic free. Ideal if, like us, you have one elderly dog not able to walk far and a younger onefull of energy!

Could you post pictures of your dog abroad on the Pets section, anything else within the remit will be fine under "UK sites".....

Following on from M's post, there are several club sites that are excellent for dogs and the first that spring to mind are Pembrey Country Park and Tredegar House in S Wales where the sites open onto parkland and estate grounds respectively.
Similarly, Dunnet Bay, Brora, New England Bay and Yellowcraigs in Scotland give easy access off the sites to beaches.
I'm sure there are more.

I think it is a good idea to have a thread like this (specifically about club and CL sites) here in an effort yet again to head off the number of controversial threads around this subject which must get quite tiresome for the CM and moderators. Putting it in the "Your Pets" section would do nothing to ameliorate that.
M - as far as "over there" is concerned I think posts are better in the "over there" section so that those who are interested in "over there" can focus their efforts in the right place.

Could we not just elevate "dogs" to the status of Politics & Religion and ban the subject from CT altogether.....
It would make for far less aggro.........

Ah yes, I see what you mean. I think I'd assume that positive non controversial posts about dogs "over there" would be welcome in the relevant place, particularly if the thread David mentions could be rediscovered or reopened, but I stand to be corrected.

I have no problem with where on the forum the dogs thread is placed, so long there is only one place to post about the subject. Since the new "Dogs and Touring" thread will take over from the "Your Pets" threads, it would be much better to delete the old redundant ones so that posters can concentrate on just the new one.

There is a vast difference between people sharing news and stories of their pets (not just dogs) and this subject 'Dogs and Touring' so I’m at a loss to understand why should anyone would assume 'Your Pets' will be superfluous.
For example, to discuss a pet's illness in this thread would be off topic as will discussing dogs on sites in 'Your Pets', or anywhere else.

I for one am perfectly happy to contribute to a Touring with Dogs thread under the UK Sites Section, and hope at some point, we may be able to get information on Touring with Dogs Overseas in the Overseas section!
We have always toured in UK with at least one dog, and more often than not, two or three dogs. We have camped, caravanned, Motorhomes, stayed in cottages and B&Bs down the years, and are always happy to recommend good places to stay, along with some very dog friendly places to visit and sight see! I think if you do tour with dogs on a regular basis, you quickly learn that there are some very dog friendly places to go, and that some times of the year are better to be out and about with your dogs than others. Happy like a lot of others are, to pass on anything helpful........

Which was merely suggesting a way to make monitoring and moderation of dog posts very easy. Dog posts can occasionally be controversial and if the Mods have to trawl all the way through the forum to find them, it would be very time consuming. Much better to have them all together in the same place. --- Makes perfect sense.

Wirral CP CC site is great for dogs. The old railway line is now a walk and cycle (and separate horse) way and right outside the entrance. Other sites that we have recently stayed at where there are good walks straight from site include Breamish, Coniston, Derwentwater, Kendal, Sandringham, Chirk, Bolton Abbey, Buxton, Carsington Water and the list goes on. We don't currently have a dog but like to see our four legged friends enjoying thdmselves (responsibly of course).
Currently on a CL where there are 4 Cairn/Westies in one van, all impeccably behaved. Great to see.
There are too many CLs to mention where dogs can be excercised properly. Will try to make a list of those when I return home.
For those with dogs, enjoy them and don't let the side down.

Very nice little video captains logg! Your two look as if they are having a great time. We've always found Cornwall to be a lovely place to holiday with dogs. Ok there are beaches off limits, but most are town beaches, very busy. Most others are sensibly zoned or time limited, with dozens more very dog friendly. Gorgeous pair by the way!

Every year, I take a few photographs of our dogs, on tour, enjoying themselves in various locations, both in and out of our little tourer, and then have them put together into a birthday Calendar for my OH. Every time we turn a page it brings back lovely memories of holidays shared with them. They absolutely adore being in the MH, we can't open the door at home without one of them clambering in and watching as we sort things out, clean things down ready for our next trip. It's sort of a doggy Tardis. You climb in, go to sleep and then wake up.......next to a beach.....or up on the Moors.......or a lovely farm CL.
