As I said, perhaps we need another Poll ?
A Club site that had a 'no dogs' rule might be popular with the anti- dog Members, but would that be enough to keep it viable.? Only a multi choice Poll would tell you.
For instance 'Would you go to a site where dogs are banned ? '
Would you go to a site where dogs are charged an amount between a £1 and £2 per night with no extra provision for them.
For Me the answer to both would be a resounding NO.

It would be interesting to know how many folk. on entering a pub etc, turn on their heels because they see someone with a dog laying on the floor by the table. I must say in a lifetime of being a dog owner I can't recall seeing such a reaction. If fact in my experience people normally want to talk to you or stroke the dog, I accept that not everyone likes dog's and respect that. FWIW If we walk into a busy pub, restaurant that is dog friendly but there are lots of children running around or young babies crying we would most likely not stay.

But it is for feedback regarding dogs on club sites which can be done without being unpleasant or argumentative.

From what I read, the whole thread has been very civil and as the OP said different views are expected and allowed if worded in the correct way

I was just reading through a few comments TW and could see it starting to take a downturn...especially when children are mentioned in the same sentence as dogs.
I haven't got much else to say on the matter, I'm glad the club welcomes dogs and other family pets.

I don’t see the point of another poll, Ray. The club encompasses all its members whether they bring with them pets, children or grannie. To ban certain elements of the membership from some sites would be a divisive move and fly in the face of the equality that currently exists.
Certain rules exist for the good of all regarding dogs and children and it is the adults who do not adhere to those rules who cause problems. The answer may lie in taking a stricter line with the few who do their own thing regardless of other people or rules.

A poll a couple of years back in the Caravan Club showed that roughly 75% of members take their pets, mainly dogs and quite a few 2 or more, on holiday with them in their Caravans and Motorhomes.
Perhaps things have changed ? But i doubt it, could we do with another poll ?
The number of dogs on sites seems to vary a great deal with some sites being more popular with dog owners than others. Understandable I suppose as perhaps sites with good walking opportunities might be more popular? At the start of the school holidays we were at LMP in North Wales and there did seem to be a lot of dogs there. The reverse of that was our recent tour of the North East and it seemed to be that the number of units with dogs was very much smaller. Perhaps its to do with the style of touring.
As to surveys the Club still seem to be sending out site surveys after a stay, although for our last trip we have only had two out of the four we stayed at. One of the questions is are you a pet owner so I imagine they are still gathering information on pet ownership. What the Club do with the information I don't know. The 75% figure on casual observation seems a very high figure?

We were at Cirencester Park, just last week. It's very popular with dog owners because of its large enclosed dog exercise area and its proximity to the park itself where dogs are allowed off lead. There were indeed a large number of dogs on site and, despite a couple of owners clearly needing reminding about the 2m lead rule, there were zero problems as far as I could make out.
Charging for dogs is, in my experience, counter productive. The worst site we've stayed on, as far as noise and fouling by dogs is concerned, was a commercial site in Cornwall we used to stay on for family gatherings each year - they were charging £2 per night for dogs and that was 8 years ago now!

Sorry, David, but charging is not ‘pretty much universal’. That would mean worldwide. I think you are referring just to Spanish or European sites, aren’t you?
Most UK sites do not charge for dogs, in my experience.

I could have said "Spanish sites or those in Europe as a whole" but, like you, I left out a few of those words in the interests of brevity. However, I left the meaning clear.

Milo, we spent the weekend at Battle Normanshurst site and very nice it was too. We also took the dog to Pett Level with the tide out its a great place for the dog to have a good run. I know I took so great pictures of our cockapoo Jax having a whale of a time. Now talking of whales!! Mrs J got herself stuck in some wet sand /mud at the west end of the beach, me being the chivalrous gentleman like what I am, laughed so much I dropped my phone down the hole said Mrs J had made in the mud and it sunk without trace, so cant post any pictures of Jax or Mrs J aka ' the whale'....

So, to return to the topic, how do you see that example working on our club sites where space is often at a premium?

One of our favorite places Jacko. Would love to live in one of those big houses built into the hillside/ cliffs at the end of the sea wall
If you have not tried Fairlight Wood I would personally rate it better than Normanhurst court for having great dog walking on your doorstep.

David's 'universal' point is not far from the truth....even in the UK, very many commercials charge for dogs...the point being (I guess) that having to pay money for them to stay (just like us adults and our children) reinforces the same requirement for all paying 'guests' (two or four legs) to be on their best behaviour....we 'all' then enter into the same 'contract'...
we were on Henley Four Oaks for three nights....wanted to see a bit more of the area but couldn't extend into Friday and beyond (theres a surprise..pesky W/E ers....
.) but SwissFarm is a few hundred metres closer to the town and pretty much the same price (£1 dearer) but we get a serviced pitch, much nicer shower block (no closures), free wifi, a bar, a restaurant with conservatory, a shop, dedicated reception staff etc but the most telling difference is the reduced noise level.....they charge for dogs here, there are very few on site, whereas up the road, you could always be sure you were on a Club site....
as some say, great if you're 'doggy' but not so good if dogs aren't your thing.
were coming back for the Regatta.....have booked here, far quieter.

Not (necessarily) so, BB. I won't repeat my post near the bottom of page 11, but we've stayed on commercial sites which charge for dogs and which have been far noisier or fouled up than club sites!

Agreed, M. It’s the "I’ve paid for my dog so why should I pick up?" school of thought.
BB, I take the opposite view that being able to take dogs free of extra charge would encourage people to be responsible in order to keep it free in the future.
And even in the UK very many commercial sites do not charge for dogs so it is far from the norm. I can’t speak for the rest of the universe.😋

We quite fancied one the apartments along the front Milo, we like Normanshurst for the two cracking dog friendly pubs in a safe walking distance.
Will give Fairlight a go one of these days

in my own experience, I've found it to be almost 'universal' for sites (wherever) other than the clubs to chage for dogs...
however, as I'm only away touring for about 50-60% of my time, I guess you should check with someone who tours extensively

maybe high season and not for the Low, Saver or Regatta, but next year even then its free up to two for all dates unless I'm looking on the wrong website.
