We are the other way round. The motorhome is manual (auto not an option on the Peugeot base vehicle) and our small car (Kia Venga) is automatic. Perhaps with small cars the auto box is disproportionately more expensive than on a larger car which might put people off. I think an auto box allows you to concentrate on the road. There have been a few times when I have tried to drive off on a roundabout in the motorhome and found myself in the wrong gear which either means I stall or cross the roundabout in slow motion!!!

Does that mean you have extra storage space in the front? On the question of EV's I read something the other day that they were investigating putting charging points in lamp posts for places where it was not possible to connect directly to a house supply. I also read that they are thinking about providing charging facilities as a standard feature on new houses, the world is changing in front of our very eyes.

Yes, front and back. However the bonnet floor is configured in a different way, windscreen wash in there as usual.

We like automatics, obviously the EV has switches rather than sticks but previously our car was auto and has saved wear and tear on wrists and knees. Same with our M/H but not on our old MG.smile

I read that emissions were increasing so I think the move towards more charge points is good. Some places have very few at the moment, I wouldn't consider an EV in that situation even with a fast charger at home.

On many housing streets the lighting collumns are at the back of the footway. Where there are terraced houses choosing to park in a specific spot is not an option. Best get a spare 25m EHU lead wink

Going for a walk along the prom this morning. Very warm. We didn't hear the bomb go off over the estuary but I heard about it from a friend over there. I think DSB might have found a pub that my friend visits, must try it some time. smile

Well you can have fun at the sea side, I was the only one on the big wheel this morning I got on with a concession and I had extra goes. Actually I had to ask the man to let me off as I nearly had one go too many. But the views were good, I could nearly see DSB over in Newton Abbot. laughing wink

I'm not surprised that you needed a new flywheel as well, Oneputt. The last time I needed a new clutch, the Mitsubishi dealer recommended a new flywheel as well.

It's nice to see that you were able to get a better price for it all though! You must feel relieved about that!

The Shogun is expensive to maintain but it's an excellent towcar with the necessary weight and power to pull our maximum length and weight caravan. The 3.2 litre engine with 4 wheel drive is just the job!

It pulls effortlessly. You can feel the power when you accelerate!

The flywheel life on the CRV is about 80k and my car is now at 91k.  The garage said they would inspect the flywheel and if needed order a new one so I decided to just bite the bullet and get it done. Going to have several other jobs done at the same time.

No I won't be there Brian. The only steam I'm attracted to is the one coming out of a kettle!

I just happened to see a notice around the Frodsham area yesterday and it reminded me of you. (The steam fair, not the noticesmile).

Had an interesting morning. Took the caravan to be weighed this morning on a VOSA public weighbridge. I now have more payload to play with, so happy days.

Also, the running costs of the Shogun have been considerably reduced since we bought the Smart car. Now we only use it as a towcar to move our caravan between Worthing and Littlehampton once every 21 days. It's over 3 months since we last bought any diesel for it!

Excellent news, Wherenext. Perhaps time to get an airconditioner fitted so that you can sleep comfortably on those hot summer nights and wake up feeling refreshed in the morning! It's worked wonders for me!

Connected up the Karcher with the brush attachment and gave the MH roof a good clean. Surprising how much dirt settles on it. Feeling a bit smug now. Off to top up with fuel later while the football is on so there shouldn't be a queue to use my Sainsbury's fuel discount voucher.

We had our monthly, ex works, pensioner meeting this afternoon and we had a talk about amber and in particular The Amber Room in the Catherine Palace in Saint Petersburg. I had no idea that amber comes from fossilised tree sap, mainly from pine trees in Northern Europe. Apparently you can find amber on the north Norfolk coast at Cromer. Its very light and will sometimes suspend in salty water. Amber is also very light so you can tell the difference between a pebble and a similar shaped piece of amber.

Amber is lovely. My OH bought me a nice piece with a tiny fly embedded in it. So interesting.

Our speaker had an interesting theory on insects in amber. Insects trapped in amber will always look as if they have tried to escape so they won't be perfect in his view but show signs of trying to get out of the tree sap.

I picked up a small piece from the beach at West Runton, amber is lovely as it doesn't feel cold. I have a plain amber necklace that is a favourite to wear. smile

True...... I think the idea for the Jurassic Park movies was inspired by something embedded in amber.......I shall have to look it up!smile

It was a sensible decision to have the flywheel done at the same time as the clutch as this would save cost because of the labour cost of having it done separately at a future date.

I prefer it like this, Oneputt. I've put the coffee table and relaxers outside the awning with a pot of tea and sitting here enjoying the cool fresh air with just a gentle breeze. Much better than that oppressive heat that we had before!
