CAMC sites now getting too pricey

you mean people buying the best?

You and I know exactly where they are Nevers! On CLs and Cs's, small private sites, ambling around abroad doing their own thing independently, enjoying their older vans and campers. And I totally agree with your Waitrose/Aldi comparison. Not only do we know what the toilets are likely to be like on Club Sites, we also know to a greater extent what model, age, even layout of tourer will be dominating the pitches. Differs during the time of year, but oh so predictable. Often at a premium price for the identical pitch! Matters not to me, we always do our own thing, and I wish every member comfort and happiness, regardless of where they pitch up!

Now that is what has changed, many members own old outfits and towcars, where are they camping? Without wishing to insult anyone, maybe the reason some use the CMC sites at any price is the same reason some people use Waitrose and would never visit Aldi/Lidl.
Mrs T works for one of the major supermarkets and she says that a lot of people who defected to Aldi/Lidl are now coming back for various reasons so maybe the tide is turning???

I went to an expensive site and loved it and didn't mind spending the money at all. I booked it with this Club.
There was an indoor heated swimming pool, really heated I mean, with an aquarobics class for those who got up early, and a sauna for older sloths like me. A young PE student was employed to run tiny tots discos for little people, and face painting, and story telling, and a treasure hunt. The teenagers gathered in a dark place in an evening for their own sort of music, but many of them were happy with free wi fi which really worked. But there was a football pitch and sports facilities too for daylight hours, and bike hire, and canoes on the river alongside. The restaurant was smart and had a real menu - not just burgers and pizza. The site was landscaped - a gardener watered flower beds and roses - and the whole place was attractive.
This Club advertises sites like this and they sell like hot cakes. Lots of us are happy to spend money for quality. But Club sites just offer neatness and order so I stay away.

no way should this be over £32 a night....£21/£22 would seem to me to be more that enough for somewhere as lacking in appeal as this place...
£22.50 from his Sunday. Not my favourite site either - prefer Bourton on Water - but a very popular site for many

Just getting my hard hat on.
Don't forget to fasten the chin strap.
The reason that I use CC sites, among other sites. is that they provide what I wish and no more

Oh for the humourous touch ABM.....
Incidentally come to Somerset if you want to see drains but even they can't cope in really bad weather.
Never fear Kennine, as Scotland rises and the rest of us sink there'll be more clubs sites up your way.....

I do think some sites appear a tad expensive at times though, and the Club is certainly guilty of profiteering at the expense of members during school holiday periods. But no differently to any other holiday experience provider. There's an interesting business marketing exercise there for any Leisure students looking for a project, how the Club balances its income across sites over the year?
The books have to balance over the year. Reduce peak prices and you increase off peak. Have to match the competition as much as possible although for an early Easter prices seem too high for too long perhaps.

Have you been to Broadway lately? MHSP now has an open grill.

".....but that same dreadful solid manhole cover over the upper MHSP..."
David, yes I've just left Broadway a couple of days ago, hence my comment about the upper level one, as stated in my post to Steve....
whats so annoying is that they obviously realise these things are a pain and changed the bottom one but have done nothing about the upper one.
just using a square grill instead of the solid cover (in the same hole) would do the job, no digging, no change in drainage....about £20 to fix....what a simple way to remove frustrating problem, especially for those who can't lift the thing....

Pardon?
im sure you don't mean my post...?
i replied to DK re the upper MHSP as I have knowledge due to being pitched 30ft away from it.....
i also replied to Steve who hadn't been to Broadway....
if you want my opinion re club prices, read my post about them charging £32+ a night for M-in-M and I said it wasn't worth it as it was well below par and we won't be back.....

Purely out of interest, why did you go to M in Marsh in the club's high season, BB? You've mentioned the small narrow pitches, vans backing on to one another and the mud/chewed up grass, all of which had been mentioned in several recent reviews. What were you expecting?
It's not one of our favourite Cotswold club sites, much prefer Cirencester or Broadway, but when we visited back on a very cold, frosty weekend back in Februaryour we were quite satisfied at just under £20 a night. A well located site for getting out and about on the many local walks.

This particular member is very grateful to all those members willing and able to pay the peak prices, long may it continue so long as the off peak bargains aren't nibbled away! We love Winter touring, and get to stay on quite a few relatively quiet sites when it suits. For all other times there are CLs!
So thank you. Not selfishness, just life. We were once tied to work holidays, thankfully before the site fees became as expensive as some are now. But the new generation of tourers seem perfectly happy as well, so thank you to them as well!

Of all the sites I have been on where they have actually changed to an open grill I have not yet found one where more than one point has been converted.
I don't disagree with you I think the Club are making a bit of a meal about such conversions and taking far too long. I actually sent the Club a picture of a cover which is widely used in Germany where by you use a lever to open the waste which is no bigger than the standard drain covers but would be more expensive compared to what you are suggesting which I imagine are like grills they use on the standard caravan service point? Perhaps they are concerned about weight of vehicles passing over them?

I suppose the problem with individual site pricing is that we have no idea how the Club arrive at the prices charged. One imagines that costs of running a site go hand in hand with the number of pitches, ie larger sites need more wardens and toilet blocks but that should also lead to economy of scale. If the site is leased perhaps that has an impact on prices but you would think that over a year the impact might not be that large.
Should the Club categorise into groups, perhaps A/B/C? There could be a brief reason why a site fits into a particular category. They could simplify the price structure by having just two prices high and low season which could be further discounted by making much more use of the Mid Week Discount across more sites. We already have an additional charge for service pitches so why not an additional charge for ordinary hardstandings with a reduction price for grass or non awning pitches. This sort of system would be much more in keeping to what is offered on commercial sites.

Good post David but will anyone listen to you?

Moreton in Marsh can get wet and muddy, (there's a clue in the name and it has flooded locally in the past.) It has gradually got more expensive there because it's a very popular site especially at weekends. I like it there but am picky over the pitches.

If people go on a grass pitch at one of the wettest springs I can remember then mud is what they will get.
I've never been on a club muddy field or site as I don't go to grass pitches, only hard standing. It's been raining here more or less for a few days but there is no mud, only wet hard standing pitches.
I don't think, sorry I know, I have not spoken of your photographic efforts at all, I have not spoken of the composition, exposure... only that the subject matter - the pitches, which are scrub land, barren and/or untidy.

Re the OP on this thread. I agree completely with Garry1958, and it is for that reason alone I have only had one site night in the past 4 years on CC Club sites. We stopped using them once they passed our red line of £20 per night.
Yet we still manage to use our van for plus or minus 40 nights per year, mainly on CL's averaging £12 - £14 per night. Even our main Holiday in St Buryan in Cornwall only charges £22 per night Peak Season for a Van EHU and two adults. However, In June we only pay £17 per night! yet the site offers Shower & Toilet block, Shop, garden & picnic area & BBQ's etc. Spread over 4 very flat fields. Nearby village pub and Bus service. Sennen Cove and Lands end less than 5 miles, plus countless other beaches.
How on earth the CC can Justify such exorbitant prices I do not know. Clearly there are enough people out there willing to pay top dollar for their small piece of grass or hardstanding that the CC allocates them. And are happy to park fairly closely packed, in serried rows, Whereas in my case I will save at least £169 for my two weeks in June, and probably a lot more in High season. I will be allowed to park any which way I choose on my very large pitch, and enjoy beautiful Cornwall without being fleeced!
