CAMC sites now getting too pricey

Karl - what do you mean out of desperation? Desperation for what? Location?
Also what booking fee?

JVB, call it what you will....but is this an excuse for lack of CC consistency across the network....or even over one site?...
'old' or not, ,it could be a lot tidier by a long way....
BTW, you don't have to defend the club in every thread...its, dull, muddy, wet, gloomy, cramped, with vans overlooking each other....and very expensive parking....we won't be back....
shame, this could have been a truly lovely location....

Sorry DD but pretty insulting to those who use club sites?
so you're now saying the club has a monopoly on fear? that the many (many implies over half?) people who use club sites and carry on using them are scared of trying something else, that those on club sites are weak and that the club is exploiting that weakness? Really?
It doesn't look like that on this site. I see a lot of expensive outfits with the cars & caravans, motorhomes all look pretty new. .The people in them certainly do not look fearful or weak, rather the opposite really.

yes, but that's no excuse....do you need a snorkel at Bourton on the Water?

So what, I've seen pools and small lakes at heights of over 2000 ft.
If a camp-site is wet it's because the drainage has not been constructed properly. Probably due to the fact that the CMC prefer to spend their money constructing supermarket car park lookalikes.
Most CMC caravan sites are of a similar standard. . Clean, tidy but un- inspiring.

We have only been to two ML sites. Bridgnorth and Betws-y-coed. I thought the Bridgnorth site exceptional from a visual standpoint. B-y-c not so much, although certainly no worse than any CAMC site we have used. However, the facilities at both were in no way as well provided for as on CC sites, despite B-y-c having a large tent area. In general both ML and CAMC sites are presented to a high standard.

Semantics, I don't care what it's called or why it's called what it is....
its, dull, damp, untidy, cramped and will be overrun tomorrow, as it's full.
the narrow pitches mean cars are parked on the roadside edge of pitches with all the associated overrunning into the grass pitch separators.....so messy and untidy.
no way should this be over £32 a night....£21/£22 would seem to me to be more that enough for somewhere as lacking in appeal as this place...
we wanted to try the site (had hight hopes, the website pictures must be of a different site...) and the area, but ill be following the time honoured rule of CT....going elsewhere...
not CC's 'finest'.....by a long way....

We have stayed there twice twice and I would agree it does feel cramped. Nice area and we will probably go back sometime. However, much prefer Cirencester and have yet to try Broadway.

Steve, Broadway is really nice (the village and the site....praise where praise is due)....
pitches large and flat, decent shower blocks.....but that same dreadful solid manhole cover over the upper MHSP....saw a lady really struggling .....I offered to lend a hand and she said, why aren't they grilled/open like others....?
if you get a chance, try and get on the upper level (some SP up there if you like them) and you are right by the railway, lovely...

I think one of the most interesting aspects of using Club Sites is their location and diversity. This no doubt stems from the age of the Club to a certain extent, and adds to the likes and dislikes of the whole membership. Whilst you could walk into almost any facility block anywhere in the country, you would instantly know it is a Club Site (the hairdryers alone give that away!), many are very, very individual, and this perhaps keeps a lot of folks happy and means that all needs are covered. Some sites are almost as they were 20 years ago, with a nod to h&s, equal opps and other must conform regulations. Some reflect the wants and needs of newer members and have a lot more on offer. Some are small, some are large, some are linear some are a series of small horseshoes. I suppose that this in itself might be a source of disappointment to a few, finding that one site is so different to another, but we are all guilty of valuing different things.
I do think some sites appear a tad expensive at times though, and the Club is certainly guilty of profiteering at the expense of members during school holiday periods. But no differently to any other holiday experience provider. There's an interesting business marketing exercise there for any Leisure students looking for a project, how the Club balances its income across sites over the year?

It is a limited company and when the auditors look at the accounts they have to sign off to say the company is a going concern, if it is not then by law it has to call in administrators!!!
There are rising costs for minimum wage (quite rightly) that most of C&MC staff are on at sites, energy costs for hot water, heating shower blocks etc., H&S issues, more compliance on having testing done on installations, rents, rates, pension costs etc. etc.
Like your wages and your companies profits if you still work they all have to be paid for by the consumer of the product or service you provide and in this case its us the members. I guess if we were all getting huge pay rises to compensate we maybe would not moan so much

Old Hartley is among the few Club sites I have used, mainly due to there being no competition in that area. It tends to be slightly cheaper than other Club sites mainly because they have a no awning rule but IMHO they are still overpriced and the pitches are cramped.
The picture that Corners painted of the Club site he is on summed it up for me (to quote);
"It doesn't look like that on this site. I see a lot of expensive outfits with the cars & caravans, motorhomes all look pretty new."
Now that is what has changed, many members own old outfits and towcars, where are they camping? Without wishing to insult anyone, maybe the reason some use the CMC sites at any price is the same reason some people use Waitrose and would never visit Aldi/Lidl.
Just getting my hard hat on.

We are paying £26.90 per night next weekend, for a family of 3 on an awning pitch, as fully serviced are not available, being booked up.
I wonder when folk are quoting prices if they are couples or families, might help discussions to establish apples for apples.
3 reasons for using BK,
1 its a surprise birthday trip for MrsP.
2 Friends who only use CAMC sites are joining in the birthday surprise.
3 We haven't been on that site before.
Our favoured commercial site in the area, with Executive serviced pitches, leisure facilities and closer to the sea is only £23.90 per night for the same weekend and that organisation gives loyalty discounts dependant on how many 'holidays' you have with them. Although there is a narrow lane to that site, it isn't potholed like the lane to BK.
We are tending to look at CAMC sites as only for special events this year as the fees are somewhat higher than alternatives, and noticeably higher* in peak season than past years of CAMC membership. This means we get less 'holidays' for our money if we limit ourselves to CAMC only sites.
In our years of MH and now caravanning we have not found a bad site be it CAMC, C&CC, CL, commercial or the little old ladies farm field we used for a similar get together as our forthcoming BK weekend. We may be lucky, or just accepting of enjoying our camping holidays.
We do other types of holiday as well, so its not limited to camping.
*Example Easter** this year 67% higher than 3 weeks before at same CAMC site, next year has a 5% increase on Easter taking it to over £40 per night. What will the rate of inflation be, using either of the 2 measures? Will see less CAMC site bookings from us.
** Easter for our family will be to remember the Father in Law who passed last Easter, and will be us going to Bristol, be it Baltic Wharf or a CL. So the new year ahead booking option gives us a fighting chance all the time BW remains open.

I don't think they give what I want, We stayed at Betys Coed and were allocated a pitch, not an ideal position for us so we asked to move and were told not possible as we would have to move all the others around so C&MC giving choice on arrival from whats left is much better, same as C&CC marching you to pitch, not fir us.... We had same at Sandy Balls, even though the site was half empty still allocated a pitch and it was like we asked them to move the earth when we said we would like to change pitch!!!
Location of Betys Coed was great though and we would return.

but then you would be guilty of explaining it wrong, probably putting in your prejudices of club sites and no real experiences of staying on them recently. Have you been to one of the newer sites? Bridlington? Barnard Castle? Stonehaven, or one of the all HS sites? Melrose, Troutbeck Head?
I never spend time in a muddy field, maybe if you 'explained' the idea of hardstanding, paved roadways they might get a better picture?
Speaking of which if you showed them that pic of that 'scrubland' pitch you showed here, they might think you mad for spending all that money getting over there for that?

Weren't Carillion audited by a Big 4 accountancy firm?

The Lidl bio pods work better than the Waitrose ones in another thread

Just did a quick price comparison for ML at Ludlow v Seacroft for a Serviced pitch (water, waste, TV point etc.) for 2 nights next weekend (sat & sun) for 2 adults and 2 children 5-15..
ML £76
Seacroft £61
So is C&MC really that expensive???
