Have you not noticed the lack of damaging pot holes, the clean tidy verges, the billiard table road surface finish and the lack of road side litter.

We are a dirty 3 rd world country compared to much of Continental Europe.

But then no one is there compared to here, if the picture is "normal",and also there is a lot more space to lose the rubbish, but the majority of "over there" cities and towns are still full of rubbish and graffiti

Ps i take it the the road in question was paid for by tolls, have you been on the M6 tollwink

Not very significant factors in my choice of where to tour, I'm afraid. undecided

I'm amused by all this I'm Right - NO - I'm Right posting on this thread.

Surely we all visit places we wish to explore and experience when we go touring in our vans. I would say that there is no right or wrong good touring locations.be it in the UK or the Continent. .

Some people prefer the security of staying close to home among their own people.   Others, who are more adventurous like to travel and experience other peoples and countries.  It's a matter of personal choice.

Why don't you all agree that the object of caravanning is to tour---- and the destination is very much what is of interest to you at the time.

Being one who spends time touring on the Continent and the more picturesque areas of the UK,  I don't have any strong opinions either way. I like both.

...but this isn't the UK section either, is it?

why can't David post about his continental experiences in a thread titled 'why not abroad'?

perhaps I'm wrong but i thought this thread was about discussing here and there, why and why not, better or worse, easier or more difficult....etc...

So, if anyone doesn't want to partake, then it's not that dificult....or is it?

and, as has been mentioned many times, if you want to discuss the merits (or not) of UK travel, then do it in a thread titled such....

to paraphrase the age old CT advice....if you don't like the thread 'post elsewhere'

Who do you think is belittling who, David?

If I was wanting to get information about touring overseas, that's where I'd look to be honest. But I think you need to look a little closer to home if you're talking about "belittling" or point scoring", because I can't honestly see any other reason for posting a photo of a motorway.

As I've said to you often enough, your style of touring obviously suits you and you enjoy it and that's all that matters at the end of the day. Perhaps you'd think about extending the same courtesy to those of us with a different view? (Or even the minor courtesy of getting my name correct!) frown

Blimey, K, I almost agreed with every word of that! Just the "more adventurous" bit I'd have omitted.

    But well said, otherwise! smile

What I really don’t understand is those who use the lack of language as their main excuse. That for me is all part of the fun and adventure. I do not speak ANY foreign languages and yet have managed very successful and enjoyable holidays with and without a Caravan in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia..... And France does not have a monopoly on sunshine, castles, history, mountains, culture, food..... and that doesn’t mean the UK doesn’t have a lot to offer. It oes and in addition to spending 18 nights in Germany and Denmark this year we have also booked 18 nights on 6 different sites in England (can’t fit in Scotland or Wales this year).

Fair enough, but I'm still curious why you think I'm belittling you (or p*** taking)? undecided

Or you could visit the practice and embarkation sites in Devon and Cornwall and save crossing The Channel.

Language has never been a problem when we have been "over there"as long as an attempt is made to speak in their languages, there is normally never a problem, and the majority of the time they will answer and speak English,

Some friends of ours bought a house in France and spent months at night school learning the language, but when they moved over there all their French contacts wanted to speak and improve their English

I agree that language should be no barrier to holidaying abroad and we always try to learn at least a few common phrases before we travel. I really enjoy trying to speak to those working in hotels, shops and restaurants in their own language, even when their reaction shows that I .. er...haven't quite got things right! smile

I have not toured in Europe as yet, need to renew  our passport first. I think there is so much to see in the UK so it's not for the fear of driving on the wrong side or xenophobic reason.

From the sandy beaches of Loch Morlich looking up to the Cairngorm Ranges. The nearest site is Glenmore Forest, alongside the loch.

There is a lot to see in the UK but  it is not limitless. Maybe some people are happy to revisit places they have been to before whilst others get greater enjoyment from exploring pastures new.

I'm sure we have all met people  abroad who have been staying at this same hotel/resort for years. - it's just not for us.

I  do not think even in the UK that there is a need to revisit the same place, and even going "over there" its very probable that the same place will be visited more than once even if its en route elswhere
