they only pay two farthings

This thread has covered a load of humorous subjects and been good fun . However there has been no agreement on the original subject of arrival times. The opinions have been split almost equally between those who support the CMC and agree to abide by CMC rules and those who disagree with rules and want the CMC to change to a Company with no rules at all.
Me - I like the idea of organisations having rules and because they have rules, those rules should be enforced by the on-site employees.

Old? Who’s old? Having fun keeps you young. Better that than being a GOG.

Our sailing club doesn't have paid employees, Every member gives of their time freely. The rules of the club is upheld by all members, failure to do so would mean club.membership being revoked. ----- Our Golf Club has paid employees and they enforce the on-site rules fairly and without favour. Any member flouting those rules has their membership revoked.
IMO -There's no reason why the CMC cannot do likewise.

I dont log onto this forum very often, but when i do i have always found some valuable information particularly travel in Europe for e.g. but this post is 21 pages of dribble, how can we expect CMHC to take posts on this sight seriously if members spend weeks/months airing a grievence that CMHC have no intention of addressing, and why should they ? after a brief read there doesnt appear to be any common ground that CMHC could take action on i.e. we all have differing needs and different sites have different logistical needs.

I think rules are an age related thing. Personally, there's a bit of rebel still alive in me, so rather than capitulate and accept that shuffle onto a slow moving conveyor belt, I am still happy walking alongside, chipping in with the odd "does it have to be this way?" comment, or if someone particularly tries to block the conveyor, stepping over them, to the greener grass, the other side!

Be careful what you may wish for. A couple of years ago we did a camper van tour of New Zealand. The norm there is no arrivals before 14:00 and departures by 10:00. Seemed to work very well.

I understand what you are saying but some rules are given from a higher authority ( national government, school, local council, at work, parents when younger...) and these are the ones you may not agree with and all of us at one time have thought them stupid or silly and want to rebel against them. But these rules are imposed on you, you have to abide by them or choose not as they case may be and take the risk/consequences if caught (part of the fun when younger) and these types of rules are difficult to get away from.
But with club rules you voluntarily decide to join the club and/or book a site. You are not being forced to join/book. you sign to abide by them of your own free will. I can't really understand why you join/book/sign then think the rules do not apply or should be changed to suit your own personal circumstances after joining?

It would be interesting if they scrapped the idea of arrival times altogether, just let everybody get on with it.

which was exactly as I illustrated in my two examples, way upthread....no arrival times at all.....harmony reigns.....
interesting comparison.....some towns (mainly overseas) don't have road signs, with residents adopting a 'careful as you go' policy mixed with a good slice of common sense.
in fact, Poundbury, nr Dorchester, is built on this exact model.....no yellow lines (park where you like, using your own discretion) no white lines, no roundabouts....priority is established in slow mornin at each junction as it is reached.....priority it one, give way at the next, based on common sense alone.....
i haven't heard of any accidents in Poundbury, nor of anarchy taking over the place....in fact it's the complete opposite....peace, harmony, Yeah Man.....
perhaps club sites would be even more relaxed places without the raft of rules we are subjected to....'sensible' one or not....

Well, David, I thought we were discussing "UK Sites and touring" so my question related to what I think is almost universal practice "over here"!
You've probably noticed from my earlier posts that I'm all in favour of more relaxed arrival/ departure arrangements where there are no access problems - that's not the same as a free for all though.

David - you continue to miss my point. It appears some were indicating these UK wide arrival/departure arrangements were uniquely a cub site problem. My point was that Haven, Morris and, as far as I can see, pretty much every site in the UK operate similar arrangements. So, yes, from that specific point of view, what happens "over there" is indeed irrelevant.

best practice as defined by who though Dave?

When we are all in motorhomes nobody will know if we are coming or going😄What ever the time.

Let me explain my point again, David. In the UK pretty much every site we've ever used has had a fixed earliest arrival and latest departures time - it is not something unique to the club as some have implied.
Other places may have different, and in your opinion, better arrangements.
I am talking about UK Sites as they are today; you are talking about sites elsewhere. Look back at the point the OP was making.
Clear now?
