I am now unable to change my profile photo, the system rejects everything even though I have the right type of photo and correct size. My phone doesn't support adobe flash so I can't use that route. On top of the problems with logging out etc (see other thread on here) are there any solutions available?

Thankyou for the e mail response Rowena, I will look forward to the problems of profile pics and logging in being resolved. Meanwhile the pumpkins will have to stay....wink

Is it my imagination, or has the system for displaying photographs changed?  If I uploaded more than one photo to a post, I thought they used to be displayed underneath each other.  Now they are displayed as one photo and you have to scroll.  Furthermore there are bars either side of the photo.  Don't like this as much.

I haven't uploaded photos for a little while so don't know how long it's been like this. frown

It seemed to occur about the time they did that update. Although initially it seemed a bit hit and miss, as though it wasn't working properly. It now seems more stable.

It does seem strange none of the staff have been on to update us. Despite reports asking for info on other threads.

Do you mean like this? If so it seems to have been borrowed from the Story Section.

It's better, especially being able to expand them on screen easily. It would be even better if the profile photos were useable and could be updated!

Yes David.  I much prefer it as it was.  Don't like the 'grey bars' at the side and the 'shadow' underneath.

....also, I've just noticed the photos are not now part of the 'quote'.

    David

Would you need to use them in a quote?

On balance I think I like the new system although the quality of the photos does not seem as good.

This is a better view! By 'view image' in Firefox ( appears in a new tab) and then dragging and dropping into the next comment. You have to have two 'tabs' open on the CT page. Just Ctrl and click on tab and drag to the right. IMHO, this is how wherenext's piccy should have appeared in the first place, without having to faff about.

I tried to do the same with DK's Ferry meadows photos but they are too wide and appear distorted.

Looking at the image info, the new photo system is 'scaling' images to 197 x 263 pixels which is not quite the 4:3 ratio of the originals. In the case of my copy of wherenext's photo, the scaling is 468 x 641. This may explain the distortion of the original photos.

Here's a photo of our 12 year old grandson in competition for his snowboard club in the Alpes last weekend!

And here's a simple drag and drop version, without the grey edges.

Going to try a phone down load as I've noticed this getting worse using Android.

Oh dear, as suspected, poorer quality from phone, original is much clearer.

Odd, the quality is reasonable from my iphone. Which is not one of the latest models. Most phones have fairly high resolution cameras. Certainly I needed to reduce the quality of this photo to get it to post. Has the quality been compromised by whatever you are using to reduce it?

    Chas

I do use your Firefox in Windows method if I want to add more than the five photos into a story. Your method does take some getting used to but it certainly works. The problem as I see it is that many people don't even bother to add photos to a story so I expect they are unlikely to try something which is a bit more complicated.

I have the advantage of storing my photos on my webspace so don't have to use third party photo hosting websites. How do you add the photos like you have done above from a third party like my snowdrops?

    David,

Once the photo has been uploaded to CT, it's stored in a CT resources folder. If you right click on a diplayed image and select 'view image' then the photo will appear full size. Use the back arrow to get back to the discussion. It's the same as having a photo in the cloud or on your own website.

However, in the case of your snowdrops and my snowboarding grandson I simply did a drag and drop from your post to my new post. Try it!

Thanks for the info, I will give it a try when I have a moment. As far as you know this only works with Firefox?

Well I have succeeded in dragging a single photograph into the post but it is not very large but assume it's because I have taken from a group of photos and all I have done is copied it over size for size.

Another try but this time from the actual Story Section when you get a slightly larger picture which is a bit too big for the posting pane. BTW this is the new barrier at Ferry Meadows if you have not seen it, now nowhere to park if you are early.

It's a pity that the script for displaying photos 'scales' the image to an aspect ration not quite 4x3. The result, neveramsure , is that your photo is blurred and distorted. Viewed directly, as here, the difference is obvious. Why, we must ask, didn't the author ensure that members' photos would be displayed properly?

Thanks Chasncath, your photo is much clearer.

Such a pity that posting a photo is still not as easy as some other forms. Resizing should be done on the forum software.
