Dog owners again

What’s that bloke going to do with that rock😮?

Perhaps a new rule stating that children and dogs should be carried when on site and not allowed to touch the ground would help defuse the situation.

ISTR that dog leads are supposed to me no longer than 1.5m. Draconian enforcement of the rules relating to dogs would have the effect of satisfying the "anti-dog" faction, rooting out the irresponsible owners but have no impact on the responsible ones. By draconian I mean that infringement would result in immediate ejection from the site without refund of fees and, upon a second offence, termination of membership. I am sure responsible dog owners would have no problem with such an approach.

Or perhaps on arrival at the site visitors are asked what their expectations are of the site during their visit. The warden may then be able to advise them this may not be the best place for them

3 meters, last time I looked.

I think not, every door ,phone box , main office, pot wash, dog walk, both toilet blocks, I think that covers every where there was even one on waste door, you need to open your eye's.

Length of leads. There you have a misleading issue. I have always read the Club guidance to be tethering leads to be no longer than 3 metres. Would I walk my dogs on a 3 metre lead around the site? No I would not, far too long to keep control and away from areas I don't want it to be near. Close in walking Site, extended or off lead away from none designated exercise areas.

They are not a total waste of time. Every so often someone learns something new. Lots of things to be learned from this thread, that a few people exaggerate the extent of an issue, that the advice on lead length is being misinterpreted, etc......
I think it was you posted photo of Great Dane Steve? That animal would be considered mutilated in UK. It's ears have been cropped, unlawful in this country. Done to make it look meaner, scare cynophobes to death. Interestingly, ever GD I have met has been as soft as a brush. It's the little yappers and snappers that I give a wide berth to until properly introduced. Size is not a reliable measure of temperament.

Didn't we try that one last year?
I do agree there is little newness, but as TTDA says there is some. We have the same unhappiness with some owners who do not follow what appears to be plain and simple rules that should actually be second nature to a responsible owner.
Then we get the same folk defending the right to allow a dog to mess on site as long as it is mainly cleaned up. Others suggesting it is not such an issue as stated but do agree that the number of dogs allowed to either roam freely or escaped has increased (how do owners know what their dog is doing in these circumstances)
Then we have the ones who have never seen a loose dog or a dog allowed to poop on site, followed by if you don't like it go elsewhere.
We have used mainly commercial sites in the last 2 years and I must say it is better, but only marginally.
Enforcement of the rules is needed, but if we take society as a whole and think about how many drivers still use their phones, how many speed either on site or off etc. etc.
I guess it is not likely to change but a bit of steam blown off is the best this topic will get.

We have been members for 30 + years. Seen, heard or witnessed very little in way of any kind of problems with dogs on Club Sites down those years, so I don't consider Club has a major problem on its sites.
I found AD's link interesting. It's a huge site, and they have come up with a good way of clearly setting out expectations from those visiting with dogs, and trying to be pro active in helping folks who travel with dogs. Free as well. But I suspect the scheme and rules have come about primarily because there may have been issues on the site. Gold star for being so prescriptive and dealing with the issues.
A small minority of folks go on holiday and seem to completely abdicate certain responsibilities as they want to relax, chill out, do next to nothing. Not a crime in itself, but it becomes one if there are children and pets involved, and they are not given the attention and guidance to keep them safe, happy and no problem to other visitors. Hence the warning signs on some Cornish beaches about supervising children at all times.

Agree TDA very soft. The father in law used to have one many years ago, that and a miniature Dachshund. The GD was by far the nicest temperament of the two. (Pre digital pictures, hence the one from the net)
It was somewhat heavy though, I certainly would not have wanted to carry it far, and possessed a lot of Kinetic energy if you got in its way when it got exited on the beach. ( Dogs were allowed at that time)

I have just read a post of yours saying you have never been to broadway, please be factual and when you do go READ the signs.😡

I wonder why so many people get so hot and bothered when there is any mention of dog owners failing to control their dogs when on site. Surely when on holiday we all relax and enjoy our leisure time and if anybody is flaunting the rules it's the paid staff's job to deal with that. It's nothing to do with the rest of us, so just relax and enjoy your time on site.

People still point out it’s the minority who offend. Have you not realised it's the minority who cause all the problems?

but who is defending poor dog owners?
Piehaps you could post a quote?

What had that got to do with the topic? Absolutely zilch.
Are you bored today?

I don’t believe in fairies but that’s not to say they don’t exist.
