It's a beautiful county, the garden of England, but rather a long way from here!

No, it was 2002 when they offered me a part-time evening job doing home deliveries. In those days the vans used to be very old and subject to breakdowns. They wanted to save money so wouldn't update their fleet. Also you were under pressure to deliver within the two hour time slot.

Tesco has operated on the Internet since 1994 and started an online shopping service named 'Tesco Direct' in 1997. Concerned with poor web response times (in 1996, broadband was virtually unknown in the UK), Tesco offered a CDROM-based off-line ordering program which would connect only to download stock lists and send orders.

According to the Tesco web site, the Tesco.com we know today launched in 2000.

Our Grand Daughter works part time at Tesco to earn money before going to Uni this year , she says they pay quite well and are good to their staff ,and once employed by them Will transfer staff to work at a store near her university/temp and let her work hours suitable round her degree course ,and if she wants will then let her resume at her local home store when not at Uni,
Could it work for delivery driving? it could save thousands of pounds in commuting costs and also get a discounts far in excess of points

No. Compared to my Smart Car, their huge bulky vans will feel horrible to drive, especially when having to reverse, at night, in the dark, into a tight parking space.
I know what it's like! Been there, done it, got the T shirt! My present job is much better!

Once I get delivery of the Smart Electric, I'll soon be able to pay off my overdraft by banking the drop money and tips without withdrawals for fuel.

The only problem is the cost of unleaded petrol, a problem that will soon be eliminated by delivery of the Smart Electric.

Tesco Credit card can be used in Asda as well and still earn Tesco points, 1 point for every £8 spend!

I may buy myself an EV like yours Malc, your posts are full of positivity & contentment. Unlike some of your followers that seem quite bitter & perhaps envious of your chosen lifestyle that leads to your contentment. Thanks for being there Mucker👍🏻😊. You just keep on keeping on, some of us share your contentment & not question & attack it.

I don't wish to be rude but from what I read you are virtually living hand to mouth. What would you do if you suddenly had a large unexpected bill to pay or became ill ?
No offence intended, but not a lifestyle that would suit me.

I think we all realise, that but why pay Tesco prices when much more can be saved elsewhere for the sake of 5 points elsewhere
You really do have a very strange and expensive way of financing your life style, the only real bargains you so far had is the extremely cheap pro rata seasonal pitches that this club have let you have, although you seem not to use them in the way, they are intended

So you have not actually looked at the overall cost?
You cannot just use the figures which look good, you need to consider everything to get the true picture.
With the capital costs included, at a guess, it will probably be around 4 years before you are really going to be better off from having this EV.

Hey. JV, you’ve proved R2B is right. 👍

Yep, and again.
Consider the irony in your posts.

Thanks, R2B!

Yes but you forget, Kj, that I'm not the one who has to pay the capital cost. That is paid by the finance company and repaid by me in monthly instalments over 4 years, so the savings will begin immediately after delivery. Also the first instalment will be paid a month after delivery but the car will be earning me money on the next shift I work, after delivery, which will probably be the same day.

In response to ABM's enquiry yesterday afternoon, I can hardly charge for advice emanating from Mr Dickens.
I haven't bought a dashcam yet. It's still on the "maybe" list.

I know what I'm talking about because I have the experience of having driven it. With a motorhome you can choose suitable roads to drive on. With the Tesco van, you have to drive down narrow streets with cars parked on both sides to get to a customers address. Some addresses are in unlit rural areas, sometimes with a narrow driveway which you have to reverse on to in the dark. I have difficulty enough with the Smart car in getting access to some addresses so I would have no chance with a Tesco delivery van. If others are happy to park in the middle of the road to do a delivery and block other traffic with their horns beeping, good luck to them. It's definitely not what I would want to do!
